It has been a busy off-season and this will be evident to members as soon as they enter the Club! The ProShop has a new look with millwork that allows for very professional display of a brand new range of products. As well, the casual dining room is almost finished! There is no doubt that members will be impressed with its new look which is both intimate and yet also has a feeling of openness with moveable glass partitions that permit a view through the Spike Lounge out to the course. The purpose of the casual dining room is to provide an alternate environment for members who want to enjoy dining at the Club without feeling like they have to join golfers – as requested time and time again. People who wish to bring family, friends or colleagues are encouraged to use the new dining facility as soon as it is open which we expect to be early spring. The Board recently adopted a set of Club Values which will guide the development of policies and programs in the future. These Values are as follows: Family Access This is a family club that promotes family involvement and we strive to provide appropriate access and programming to all members, spouses and children. Gender Neutrality Membership categories and applicable access to the tee and privileges are based on fees paid not gender. Fee-Based Access Members who pay the highest fees receive the greatest benefits. Flexibility In today’s market, we must remain flexible in our programming and pricing. Junior Development Future success is based on our ability to develop future members and we will do so by delivering a first-class junior program and offering significant incentives to intermediate members. Social Environment The Wascana is more than just a golf course and as such the food and beverage elements, club events and social connections are an important aspect of Club life. Continual Improvement Our Club believes in continual improvement and we will consistently improve amenities and programs to better serve current and future members. In addition to the foregoing, management has been busy designing new programming including a new Ladies Golf Program which will include golf clinics and the involvement of the Pro staff as they join the ladies for golf. Certain blocks of time will continue to be reserved on Tuesdays for women golfers, just as Wednesdays are reserved for men’s day and Thursday mornings for seniors’. (continued on page 4)

President’s Message Continued (from front page) The difference will be that the amount of time on Tuesday afternoon, which has not been fully utilized in the past, will be a flexible block of time sufficient to accommodate all women golfers who have signed up. The Pro Shop will allocate only as many tee times are required so that other golfers may be able to access Tuesday afternoon tee times after the Ladies times. A new booking procedure is being introduced this season and members will learn more about it from management in this newsletter. It became evident as management converted to the new software system, that our prior booking procedure had to be changed. Management has developed a system that will continue to prioritize golfers access to the tee sheet according to membership status and still respect restricted times. It will be a change but management is committed to providing as much help is needed to ensure this is a smooth transition. More information about the new season will be shared at the AGM on Monday, April 27th at 7pm and members are encouraged to attend. In addition, the Open House will be held on Sunday, April 26th when members will be able to see the Club’s new look. Thanks to the management team for their commitment and hard work! The Board and management are both looking forward to the new season and we’re all anxious to sample Chef Milton Rebello’s new menu items! As always, please feel free to call or email me with questions, comments, or compliments. I can always be reached at

The agreement offers Wascana members the ability to play golf with no green fee as well as to accompany up to three guests at the applicable green fee rate subject to availability. Reservations are only available through our Head Golf Professional, Dean Manz. Greg N. Dukart General Manager/Chief Operating Officer

Course & Grounds Update Another winter has passed and the golf season is fast approaching. Although this winter was a little more enjoyable for all of us, it posed quite a threat to the golf course, primarily the greens. In late November as well as at the end of January we experienced rains while the ground was frozen. When the ground is frozen, it reduces the chance of moisture going through the soil and relies mainly on surface drainage to deal with any standing water. Unfortunately, there are several areas on our greens where surface drainage is a problem. The night after these rains, temperatures dropped to negative Celsius causing ice to form on many areas of the greens. When ice forms and encases the turf, it eliminates any chance for gas exchange to occur. Toxic gases such as carbon dioxide build up underneath the ice and eventually cause the turf to die. This past week we have looked at several greens and now see that we will have ice damage in areas. These areas will need extra attention in order to recover and we intend to commence the recovery work as soon as possible. Finally, we have several drains that are still frozen around the course. The result of this is a fair bit of standing water in areas. We have been pumping these areas to reduce the chance of disease and to allow air flow through the drainage tile. Once these drains thaw, it will be a good sign that we are nearing our growing season. I and my staff are looking forward to the upcoming season. Chad Fawcett Golf Course and Grounds Superintendent

Golf Course News New Golf Course Routing Reminder The new routing will be: Holes 1, 2, 3, then play what is currently 17 as 4, 18 as 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, for the front nine. Holes 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, then play what is currently 16a (par3) as 17 and finally currently played 5 as 18 to round out the back nine. This satisfies a lot of member feedback including returning the golf course as a par 72, brings arguably one of the provinces best par threes back into play as well as provides for a more difficult series of finishing holes. NEW! Golf Reservation Procedure Change for 2015 Please note that with the introduction of a new website as well as the consolidation of all technology to one service provider we have had to alter Golf Reservation procedures for 2015. Basically the new tee sheet system provides for populating ballots for the same day only once. As such all members, regardless of membership category, will have a three day advance reservation (this is the same as our current weekend tee time policy). The new system will automatically give priority for tee time requests as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Shareholders, corporate principle Share applicants, corporate nominate and graduate members Executive senior shareholder, spousal members, executive senior, super senior and guests Non-resident, intermediate, social golfing, juniors and introduction to golf

Once the tee sheet is populated by priority as noted the tee sheet will open to other electronic or telephone tee time requests by all members. Please note that category tee time restrictions will not be altered. For example male and female spouses will still not be able to reserve tee times between 12 Noon and 2 PM on Tuesdays, between 12 Noon and 5 PM on Wednesdays, between 12 Noon and 2 PM on Fridays and prior to 11 AM on Saturday. Same as the past system the new system will automatically prevent categories of members attempting to play within restricted times. Should you have any questions please see Dean or his golf professional staff. NEW! Guest Play Policy for 2015 Please note that the Board of Directors approved a new policy whereby the same guest may play a maximum 3 times. It is hoped that guests wishing to play more than 3 times will consider becoming a member of the Wascana Country Club. In addition, current Wascana Country Club members are not able to play rounds as a guest.

Food & Beverage News NEW! Casual Dining Room...Coming Soon The Casual Dining Room is in the final development phase at present. We anticipate it to be ready for an early May Opening. Planned Hours of Operation are as follows: Tuesday through Saturday 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM Our new Executive Chef Milton Rebello has planned an exceptional casual dining menu and looks forward to it’s launch. Members and their guests are required to change from on-course golf attire to acceptable smart casual dress prior to entering the casual dining room. Member Event Service Charge Change Many members have asked the amount of gratuity payable at a club member event hosted in the ballroom. The Board of Directors have confirmed that this gratuity rate will be 15 % for 2015. NEW! Clubhouse Events Booklet The food and beverage management team have been busy all winter not only improving member favorite functions but introducing a host of new events. Shareholders should have received a new events booklet in the mail with the 2015 Annual General Meeting circular. The 2015 Clubhouse Events Booklet will be available both online and for pick up in the Administration office following the Member’s Open House on Sunday, April 26th. Spike opening Monday, April 13th The Spike Lounge will be open for lunch from 11 AM until 2 PM Monday to Friday.
