Message from the Ladies President – Shirley Paterson Congratulations to Sharon Nattrass who was the proud raffle winner held during the Ladies Opening dinner on May 3, 2012. Her prize was a $150 outfit from the Pro Shop. Also, congratulations to Sally Ford who won 4 lessons from our Pro Dean Manz after entering a draw that evening. 92 ladies members and guests were treated to a great season opening dinner created just for the event by Chef Rod. Bringing greetings and information to the ladies were Club President, Aaron Fox: Club Manager, Greg Dukart and Club Pro Dean Manz. Thank you to Ladies VP Danica Love who along with Leah Christie organized the great evening. Special thanks to Gilda Treleaven-Graham for playing the piano for O Canada and past president Marge Williams who honoured us with Grace. Upcoming events to mark on your calendars for June: Wascana Ladies Welcome Back Tournament – Saturday, June 2, 2012 Canada Day Ladies Tournament – Tuesday, June 26, 2012 Dean Manz started his “Tips from the Pro” every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. His first tip on proper foot placement on the tee box started off with a few missed drives initially but soon turned out to be a great tip. Watch for Dean again on Tuesday, June 12. NEW! Assistant Pro, Mitch Zaba is pleased to announce that he is offering Ladies Golf Clinics every Wednesday commencing Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from 5:30 – 6:30 P.M. This is open to ALL lady members. The cost is $20 and there will be a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 for the clinics. The Clinics for June will be as follows: Short Game Bunker Driving range – fundamentals Putting Email mzaba@wascanacountryclub.com to sign up in advance to reserve a spot. After your lesson why not have your significant other or friend join you for Steak Night. Super Bonus! Not only do you improve your golf game, you don’t have to cook supper. We are extremely proud to announce that 2011 Ladies Club Champion, Kim Walker will also be joining in on a few rounds with the Ladies Sections on Tuesday. Just a reminder you do not have to belong to a Ladies Section to join that ladies group to golf. All lady members are welcome to join any group for a round of golf. This is a great way to meet other members and have some fun golfing. Thought for the month: What does the Chick-a-dee and Ladies Club Championship have in common? Answer: It’s really FUN to be a lady golfer at the Wascana CC Cheers, Shirley A. Paterson, WCC Ladies Club President

At last: PGA Rule Changes for Seniors Rule 1.a.5 A ball sliced or hooked into the rough shall be lifted and placed on the fairway at a point equal to the distance it carried or rolled into the rough with no penalty. The senior should not be penalized for tall grass which ground keepers failed to mow. Rule 2.d.6 (B) A ball hitting a tree shall be deemed not to have hit the tree. This is simply bad luck and luck has no place in a scientific game. The Senior Player must estimate the distance the ball would have traveled if it had not hit the tree and play the ball from there. Rule 3.B.3(G) There shall be no such thing as a lost ball. The missing ball is on or near the course and will eventually be found and pocketed by someone else, making it a stolen ball. The player is not to compound the felony by charging himself or herself with a penalty. Rule 4.c.7(h) If a putt passes over a hole without dropping, it is deemed to have dropped. The law of gravity supersedes the Rules of Golf. Rule 5. Putts that stop close enough to the cup that they could be blown in, may be blown in. This does not apply to balls more than three inches from the hole. No one wants to make a travesty of the game. Rule 6.a.9(k) There is no penalty for so-called "out of bounds." If penny-pinching golf course owners bought sufficient land, this would not occur. The senior golfer deserves an apology, not a penalty. Rule 7..G.15(z) There is no penalty for a ball in a water hazard, as golf balls should float. Senior golfers should not be penalized for manufacturers' shortcomings. Rule 8.k.9( S) Advertisements claim that golf scores can be improved by purchasing new golf equipment. Since this is financially impractical for many senior golfers, one-half stroke per hole may be subtracted for using old equipment.

While Mother Nature wasn’t cooperative (golfing was cancelled), she didn’t manage to dampen the spirits of the more than 60 members that gathered to enjoy an evening of fellowship, fun and good food.

Four lucky members took home door prizes courtesy of Solvera. As well, Bill and Janet Johnson, and Craig and Linda Nelson will enjoy an evening of fine dining at the Rooftop, followed by a movie at the Cineplex. These prizes were purchased from funds raised from the game registration fee.

Golf Course Emergency Procedure Should you or a playing partner of yours become ill or suffer a stroke, please call the golf shop on 584-1377.

Dress Code It is expected that members will advise their guests of the attire deemed acceptable at The Wascana Country Club before the guests arrive and it is also expected that a sponsor or sponsors of an outside event advise their guests on the club’s dress code. As dress is a personal matter and as contemporary golfing attire changes from time to time, questions regarding the acceptability of any particular apparel can be reviewed with the Club’s Management. Everyone is expected to dress tastefully in a manner appropriate to private golf clubs. Contemporary and fashionable attire is acceptable. Jeans (Denim) are not acceptable attire for the golf course or clubhouse except that clean and presentable tailored denim pants will be permitted for members attending the Spike Lounge and Centennial Courtyard or when picking up golf clubs or locker items. Gentlemen shall remove hats and caps when seated in the Spike Lounge or Ballroom Area. All dress code violations shall be reported to the General Manager.

Congratulations Chris! Congratulations to Chris Marchiori our Assistant Superintendent who recently achieved Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Accreditation Status through the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association. This is a feat that few in Canada have accomplished, which shows Chris’s dedication and commitment not only to The Wascana but the Golf Industry in general. Please take the time to congratulate Chris. We are very fortunate to have him on the management staff of the Wascana.
