THE HIVE@HEALING: NEW SEND SPECIALIST RESOURCE PROVISION (SRP) TO OPEN AT HEALING ACADEMY IN COLLABORATION WITH NORTH EAST LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL
North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) and Harbour Learning Trust are pleased to announce the establishment of a new SEND Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) The Hive@Healing Academy. This initiative aims to enhance educational support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), specifically those with communication and interaction needs, within a mainstream secondary school setting.
The Hive@Healing, developed in partnership with NELC, will provide students with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) access to high-quality education, specialised support, and a structured pathway towards greater independence and future success. The provision is designed to ensure that students can learn in an inclusive environment while receiving targeted interventions tailored to their individual needs.
(Richard Briggs, CEO) of Harbour Learning Trust expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating:
“We are thrilled to be working alongside North East Lincolnshire Council to bring this muchneeded resource to our community. The Hive@ Healing will enable students with SEND to thrive in a supportive, mainstream setting while receiving the tailored support they need to succeed academically and socially. This fits in with Harbour’s values and commitment to inclusivity in all of our schools.”
The Healing site has been selected due to its
accessibility, existing infrastructure, and potential for further development to accommodate specialist facilities. In collaboration with NELC, planned building adaptations will ensure the site is well-equipped to meet the needs of students. Additionally, Harbour Learning Trust is working with local specialist settings, the National Autistic Society, and other experts to enhance staff training and expertise.
Councillor Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio Holder for Children and Education at North East Lincolnshire Council, highlighted the significance of this initiative:
“I am thrilled to be announcing this provision alongside the Harbour Learning Trust. It is going to make a significant contribution to providing specialist educational support to children in North East Lincolnshire.”
“Healing Academy have done a tremendous job in researching and gathering information from other settings on how to ensure that this provision is fit for purpose, and it is wonderful
MOVING FAMILY DRAMA COMING TO THE BROADBENT THEATRE
The curtain goes up this month on The Father, a unique and moving play being staged at the Broadbent Theatre in Wickenby by Lincoln-based Common Ground Theatre Company.
The Father became an Oscar-winning movie in 2020 starring Sir Anthony Hopkins as André and Olivia Colman as his daughter Anne.
Now 80 years old, André’s declining mental faculties lead to confusion, frustration and a loss of identity. His daughter Anne struggles to balance her love for her father and the need to care for him with the pressures of her own work and personal life.
The play is notable for its inventive dramatic form, which mirrors André’s increasing mental confusion by playing with our expectations of space and time. The audience is forced to see life through André’s eyes and to experience the dislocation, anxiety and vulnerability associated with his dementia.
The Father is a moving family portrait and a tragi-comic mystery, by turns funny, absurd and heartbreaking.
Common Ground’s latest production stars Jerry Smith as André and Laura Turner as Anne and
features a strong supporting cast of company regulars and newcomers.
The Father can be seen at the Broadbent Theatre in Wickenby from Thursday 10th until Saturday 12th April 2025. Performances begin at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £13 (£12 concessions) and can be purchased online at https://broadbenttheatre.org/events/ the-father/. Or you can call the box office on 0333 666 3366. Some tickets may also be available on the door.
to hear that young people are already having a hand in the creation of the project.”
“It will have a lasting impact on the education landscape in North East Lincolnshire now and for years to come.”
The Hive@Healing is set to open in September 2025 to students with a period of growth over the first twelve to eighteen months. Admissions follow the national process for children with EHCPs as outlined in the SEND Code of Practice. We ask that families do not make direct contact with Healing Secondary Academy at this time, unless they have been informed of an active consultation for their child. Healing have created a dedicated webpage for parents, carers and wider stakeholders to stay informed about this project. This is available at: https:// hsa.harbourlearningtrust.com.
Common Ground Theatre Company will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year and The Father will be its 41st production.
Past shows have included modern classics such as Waiting for Godot and No Exit, Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and Romeo and Juliet, and period costume drama including Little Women and Carry On, Jeeves!

Leigh lambert was born and raised in Newcastle- Upon- Tyne, where he resided for the first twenty years of his life.
Lambert began to draw as soon as he could hold a pencil, with his family quickly recognizing his artistic flair. As he progressed through school his exceptionally detailed creations captured the attentions of his teachers, who admired his canny knack for capturing a view. However, the artist describes himself as mostly self- taught, having received no formal art qualifications or training.
Lambert relocated to Warwickshire with his family in 1996, where he focused on the development of his technique. It was on leaving Newcastle that he began to appreciate the nature of his upbringing; what he had once seen as a concrete jungle now seeming strangely beautiful.
Taking inspiration from his childhood, Lambert’s pieces have a
strong sense of nostalgia, evoking fond memories of a youth that many can relate to.
Lambert is an accomplished artist across a range of media, most commonly working in oils on board. His use of colour is minimal, optimistically applying splashes only to the figures that play amidst the otherwise monochromatic landscapes, capturing the joy and vitality of youth.
Working from his garden studio, the artist has achieved great success in recent years. In 2014 he was shortlisted as Best Up and Coming Artist in the prestigious Fine Art Trade Guild Awards, and consequently his works are hugely sought after. Limited Editions often sell out within weeks, and waiting lists are in place for those hoping to acquire original paintings.

BREAKOUT TREATMENT
FOR DRY EYE DISEASE ( DED)
If your eyes feel dry, irritated, or painful for most or all of the time, you are quite probably suffering from Dry Eye Disease (DED), especially if you continually feel “there’s something in my eye”.
One in five, and nearly 800 million people worldwide, suffer from DED. Over 50% of females over the age of 40, and over 90% of menopausal females, are thought to live with this condition. More recently, the condition has become more common in all ages and genders due to environmental factors, use of cosmetics and medications, excessive screen use, and underlying conditions such as blepharitis and Sjögren’s syndrome.
The front part of your eyes is lubricated by a special moist film consisting of a mucous layer nearest your eyes, a middle, watery layer derived from your tear glands, and a third, outer layer, which is oily (lipid) and produced by special glands (the Meibomian glands) in your upper and lower eyelids.

enough oily film, the other lubricating layers will continually dry out and that is what causes the irritation and other symptoms of Dry Eye Disease.
This new therapy for Dry Eye Disease offered at O’Brien’s in Brigg is safe, noninvasive, painless - and doesn’t involve any eyedrops. It is known as Intense Pulsating Light (IPL) and Low Light Level Therapy (LLLT), though it may also be referred to as Photobiomodulation (PBM).
IPL uses thermal pulses to stimulate the Meibomian glands, and LLLT uses a specific wavelength of light to gently heat the eyelids. This revolutionary new treatment helps the Meibomian glands to work properly and therefore stabilises and improves the quantity and quality of the oily layer of the tear film. The treatment provides an immediate relief of symptoms.

CREATING A BUZZ
HOW TO ATTRACT BEES AND POLLINATORS TO YOUR GARDEN
Bees and other pollinators are very important for your garden. Other than creating an atmosphere buzzing with life, bees are crucial to achieving a healthy garden. Here are some ways to attract them into your garden.
PUSSY WILLOW
These early blooming ornamentals aren’t just a beautiful sight in the garden, but also an important food source to the hungry bees. As the colony of bees emerges in early spring, pussy willows will make sure they have enough to eat even when other nectar sources are scarce. Bumblebees, chocolate mining bees and Clarke’s mining bees are all fans of the pussy willow.
MAHONIA
Mahonia offers plenty of nectar and pollen to the bees. These tough flowering shrubs come in many different forms, some of which are scented. It’s a winter flowering plant and especially useful if you have winter active bumblebees in your garden. The clusters of yellow flowers are typically followed by purple berries, a food source for birds.
LAVENDER
Bees love lavenders. Ideal for growing in garden beds and pots, lavenders should be at the top of your list if you want to attract more bees to your garden. Grow lavender in light, airy soil that has good drainage. They won’t grow well in heavy soil that has the tendency to stay wet for long periods.
APPLES
Apples, and especially crab apples, give spring flowers and bees are an important pollinators for these. Besides attracting bees to your garden, you’ll see an increase in apple production when assisted by bees.
HONEYSUCKLE
Honeysuckle is a prolific bloomer and an important source of nectar and pollen to the bees. Blooming in autumn, honeysuckle is regularly visited by Garden bumblebees and Carder bumblebees.
When we look at planting in gardens that we design, we ensure that the right plants are chosen for each area, but we also consider the wildlife impact. We ensure that we use plants that will attract a variety of wildlife. If you do not have a large garden, or do not want to create new beds, or change your existing ones, then pots can be used to attract bees and other pollinators. Now that spring is well underway hopefully you will start to see more bees in your garden. If you have any garden projects in the future give us a ring to see how we can help!

FRESH IDEAS FOR YOUR HOME AND GARDEN
April is the perfect month to breathe new life into your home and garden. As the days grow longer and nature begins to bloom, there’s a renewed sense of energy in the air – and that makes it the ideal time to refresh your surroundings, both inside and out.
Whether you’re pottering in the garden, sprucing up your interiors or simply enjoying the sunshine pouring through the windows, April brings a host of opportunities to embrace the season and get your home feeling fabulous again.
SPRING INTO THE GARDEN
After the chill of winter, April is when the garden starts to wake up. Tulips and daffodils are in full bloom, fruit trees are budding, and lawns are beginning to turn green again. This is a great time to tackle those early-season gardening jobs and prepare for the months ahead.
Start by tidying your borders – weed, mulch and edge the beds to give everything a clean finish. If you haven’t
already, cut back any dead growth from perennials and prune shrubs like forsythia after flowering. It’s also the right time to plant hardy annuals like cornflowers, nigella and calendula, which will bring colour to your garden well into summer.
Lawns may need their first mow of the year, but don’t go too short too soon. If you’re feeling ambitious, consider scarifying and aerating your lawn for a healthier,
lusher look. And if you’re growing vegetables, now’s the time to sow beetroot, carrots, lettuce and peas outdoors.
If your outdoor furniture has been hibernating in the shed, now’s the time to bring it back to life. A good scrub-down, a lick of paint, or some new outdoor cushions can work wonders. String up some fairy lights, add a few lanterns or potted herbs, and you’ll have the perfect spot for springtime cuppas and alfresco dinners.
Even a small patio or balcony can be transformed into a seasonal haven – just a few pots of vibrant spring flowers and a comfy chair can make all the difference.
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR INDOORS
Inside the home, April is the month to shake off the cobwebs – literally and figuratively. Open the windows, let the fresh air flow, and take the chance to do a proper spring clean. Decluttering shelves, refreshing soft furnishings, and polishing woodwork can instantly lift the feel of your living space.
You don’t need to redecorate entirely – swapping out darker winter tones for pastel accessories, fresh linens, and floral touches can make your home feel instantly lighter and brighter. Think vases of fresh-cut tulips, botanical prints, and light throws draped over the sofa.
BRING NATURE IN
Houseplants are thriving this time of year, with brighter light and longer days giving them a welcome boost. Give them a little TLC – re-pot if needed, wipe dust off leaves, and reposition them to make the most of the sun. If you’re new to indoor gardening, try low-maintenance options like peace lilies, pothos, or snake plants to get started.
Finally, embrace the joy of the season. April brings Easter, blossom-filled walks, and the promise of warmer days. Use it as a chance to reconnect with your space – whether you’re planting seeds with the kids, styling your windowsill with cheerful blooms, or just taking ten quiet minutes in the garden.
Get your garden ready for spring and summer with our pick of stylish outdoor furniture, fire pits and barbecues. Whether you’re hosting a family gathering or relaxing on a sunny afternoon, these seasonal essentials will help you make the most of your outdoor space in comfort and style.

ON THE ROAD THIS EASTER
With Easter and the school half term on the horizon, many families will pack up the car and heading out to explore the best that Lincolnshire has to offer. From charming market towns to sweeping coastlines and rolling countryside, April is the perfect time to hit the road and discover some hidden gems.
Spring driving has its charm. The fields are greening, hedgerows are dotted with blossoms, and the lighter evenings mean more time to enjoy the journey – not just the destination. Whether you’re heading for the coast at Sutton-on-Sea, exploring the historic streets of Stamford, or enjoying a country walk in the Wolds, getting there is all part of the experience.
Before setting off, it’s worth giving your car a little seasonal TLC. After a winter of wet, salty roads and cold starts, now’s the time to check tyre pressures, top up fluids, and give everything a good wash – especially the underbody. A clean windscreen and working wipers are essential for those unpredictable April showers. If you haven’t had a spring service yet, it’s a smart move before longer family journeys.
With families on the move this half term, it’s also a good idea to make the car journey part of the fun. Pack snacks, games, and a playlist everyone can enjoy. Don’t forget to keep the sat-nav updated or plan your route ahead of time if you’re heading somewhere off the beaten track – mobile signal can be patchy in more rural parts of Lincolnshire.
As motorcyclists also return to the roads in greater numbers this season, it’s important to share the road safely. Take extra care on country lanes and always check your mirrors before changing direction. For riders, a spring bike check and proper safety gear are essential for a safe and enjoyable ride.
For those towing caravans or trailers, it’s wise to inspect lights, tyres, and coupling equipment ahead of travel. With more
vehicles on the road during the holidays, patience and awareness go a long way towards keeping everyone safe – especially on narrower rural routes.
There are plenty of car-friendly days out across the county. Enjoy a picnic in the grounds of Belton House, visit the adventure play areas at Rand Farm Park, or take a scenic drive through the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For something different, the Bubblecar Museum near Boston offers a quirky look back at motoring history.
So whether it’s a big day out or a spontaneous countryside drive, make the most of your car this Easter. Lincolnshire’s roads are calling, and there’s no better time to enjoy them than in the fresh air and freedom of spring.
