Hundreds of potential 2014 Walker County Fair Exhibitors and parents gathered for the WCFA Jamboree, a kick-off gathering that updates everyone about rules and changes in the coming fair year. Dr. Bobby Lane, WCFA President, explained that exhibitors are again required to put in five hours of work at the fairgrounds in order to be eligible to show in April. Their first opportunity will be at the Walker County Fair Association’s Halloween Carnival coming up Thursday, October 31st. Parents are still required to work two hours at the fair for each child they have exhibiting.

UPCOMINGJOURNAL FAIR ON THE SQUARE

GREAT MUDDY ESCAPE

Craft creators and businesses are busy readying for the 39th Annual Fair on the Square in Downtown Huntsville. Vendors can still reserve space at 936295-8113. The Fair begins at 9am Saturday morning and lasts until 5pm. There is a pre-fair Concert on Friday night, from 8 to midnight, featuring Rosenwall, under the big tent.

It’s that time again! The Great Muddy Escape obstacle course race will be held Saturday, October 26th at General Sam’s Off-Road Course. It is designed to test resilience, strength, stamina, quick decision making skills, and ability to laugh in the face of adversity. Call YMCA to register to participate or to sponsor the event at 936-295-8009. The event will feature food vendors, BYOB, music, and a costume contet. Proceeds will benefit the YMCA and HMH Auxiliary. The obstacle course lengths include options for 1 Mile, 2 Mile and 5 K Runs.

SHSU BEARKAT HOMECOMING PARADE The Sam Houston State University Bearkat Homecoming Parade will be held Thursday, October 10th at 6:30 pm. Organizations, businesses or individuals who would like to participate can find info at www.shsu.edu/homecoming/ parade.html. Registration is due by 5pm Wed, Oct 9. The parade route will be from 19th St north up Sam Houston Ave, then East on 12th Street and South on University to its end at Midway Plaza.

HEARTS MUSEUM VETERAN’S DAY BANQUET Tickets are currently on sale at HEARTS Veteran’s museum for their annual Veteran’s Day Banquet, scheduled for Monday, November 11, 2013 at the museum on Hwy 75 N from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tickets are available, as are business sponsorships by calling the HEARTS Museum at 936-295-5959. Tickets are limited.

The Huntsville High School choir, in conjunction with the Mance Park Middle School choir, are hosting their annual Broadway & BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, October 19th in the commons area at Huntsville High. Guests will be served a BBQ plate by the MPMS choir as they listen to the HHS choir perform their favorite Broadway songs. There will be a 2 PM & a 6 PM show. There will also be a silent auction.
