Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples, arguably the frontrunner in the four-way race for Lt. Governor of Texas, made a stop in Huntsville last week at the HEARTS Veterans Museum grounds to visit with constituents. Explaining that he’d learned hard work and honesty being brought up just “up the road in Palestine,” he said that both had served him well in his public service. He promised to continue standing up against the federal government’s intrusion. A light, but very interested early-morning crowd kept Staples engaged well beyond his speech. NEWSJOURNAL HUNTSVILLE ISD BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE LESSON PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS By Melanie Thibodeaux Walker County Journal Editor
a web-based service called Forethought that is a fully-faceted lesson planner/scheduler assisting teachers by having learning standards and TEKS built into it and readily available as they plan their lessons. These are easily monitored by administrators with passwords who check in on the lesson plans and who make certain that TEKS are met. She indicated that this also helps assure that “every student has the same opportunity across the district, regardless of which campus they’re at.”

in fact too late for any names to be removed from the ballot. Thompson had written letters indicating that she no longer wished to challenge Langley’s incumbency and that she did not want to run. Despite all of the paperwork to that end, Thompson’s request on September 3rd was too late, according to legal counsel and the Secretary of State’s Elections Division. Following the thorough detailing of events by Dr. Johnson, board member Karin Olson Williams asked what the cost to HISD would be for carrying out a required election that would presumably produce nothing but incumbency re-elections. Johnson said that the cost was projected to be somewhere around $13,000. Williams responded that it was unfortunate that the district was required bear that cost. Linda Thompson is President of the Sam Houston Tea Party in Walker County and an outspoken opponent of CSCOPE. She listed only personal reasons as the reason for her decision not to run for HISD School Board.
