WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE Waimak United VS Cashmere Tech 12.30PM Kick off Kendall Park Turf Coaches Comments Both CWCL and WPL play at Kendal this weekend with the WPL playing their last league game of the season. The CWCL side have the 10.15am kick off against Halswell, and will be hoping to reverse the fortunes of last weekend, where, despite a lot of hard work in the second half, they could not reverse the 2-0 half time score line. All players in the squad have shown improvement this season and will need to put this into practice this weekend. If they show the same level of intensity, displayed in last week’s second half, from the start to finish, and provide more commitment to scoring when in the penalty box, they are in with a good chance of picking up the three points and maintaining a chance to win the league. At 12.30pm the WPL side will take on Technical in what could be a Second - Third place play off. Showing their true ability last week they played some outstanding football, as they posted their best win of the season, winning 12-1 at Halswell, and they are likely to need all of this as they face a strong Technical who are currently sitting in second place. There is no doubt that the side have the ability to take the three points and we look forward to a good game, and the three points, to close out this year’s league games. We wish all the players putting a Waimak shirt on this weekend, all the best and hope you enjoy your football.

WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB MEN’S CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE Waimak United VS Mid Canterbury United FC 2.45PM Ashburton Domain

Coaches Comments This weekend we travel to Ashburton for our away fixture with Mid Canterbury following our English Cup exit on Tuesday night, going down to Christchurch United on penalties in the Quarter Finals. The boys were gutted not to win the game but we all felt a sense of pride in how we performed and the effort we gave to give ourselves a chance to make the Semi Finals. The boys didn’t stop running for the whole 120 minutes and showed the work rate and togetherness we have as a team, I actually felt we had the better of the chances to score against a team who are on another level to what we usually face each week in the CCL. We had to adjust our set up to try to frustrate Christchurch United and limit their attacking qualities with bodies behind the ball and a focus on keeping our defensive shape. We could have opened up and played our usual style of football, lost 3-0 and everyone would have patted us on the back and said hard luck. Instead we felt if we kept ourselves in the game for as long as possible we had a chance of winning it, a few people after the game said to me they didn’t feel Christchurch United threatened us much but I think that’s where we need to give credit to our lads for the amount of work off the ball to deny the opposition a chance to overrun us. Unfortunately after that game we have a few boys with knocks that means we are somewhat down to bare bones for this weekend’s game but we are pleased with what we did on Tuesday night and it was fantastic to get so many messages from people at the club recognising the boys efforts. I hope the boys now know they can compete with the big teams in the league above and should give us a further push over the off season to add to the squad and try to give us a genuine chance at pushing for promotion. Mid Canterbury is going to be a really tough game, despite their league position they are one of the best teams we’ve played this year and gave us a real go in our home fixture. Fingers crossed we can get a good result , but this fixture is also a chance for some further team bonding thanks to our club agreeing to provide travel for the team for this away trip and we will be making the most of it on the way back! Our team spirit is our strength here at Waimak and something that will always be the cornerstone of our first team, as well as our work rate and genuine pride of representing the club.

Lastly I want to congratulate Zac Winter and Koby Allen on making their senior debut last week in our Reserves team, both getting 25 minutes off the bench and Koby manging to get a goal after on 5 minutes. I coach both these lads in our 15th grade team and I wasn’t surprised to see them look comfortable making the step up, they were both fantastic and are an example of the young talent we have coming through here at the club and the genuine pathways we will offer our home grown players. There’s another 2 or 3 players in the 15s who I expect will also make the step up in the next 12 months as well as a number of boys in the 17th Grade who will be senior footballers in our CCL reserves next year. Good luck to all Waimak United teams this weekend, you all do us proud every week and it’s fantastic to see so many enjoying playing football at the club this season. Up The Mak Adam Keizer
