The only #leader to follow unconditionally. We need teachers for the #Shariah, to guide us. We need to have sources of knowledge. In terms of #spiritual advancement, if people are having spiritual experiences it’s good to have people who know what they are doing. Suhba (companionship) is also good. Many of the true Shuyukh of this period, like Sidi Abdal Hakim Murad Winters is of the opinion that taslim the idea of surrendering onesself like a dead body in the hands of a mortician, was over, the surrendering yourselves to a Shaykh completely was over, this wasn’t its time. And there are a lot of dysfunctional aspects in a lot of relationships that happen, so there are problems in all these systems. And surrendering your sovereignty, you have

to be very careful with that, who you surrender your sovereignty to, some people demand a lot.

Peer sahibs and Middle Eastern Shaykhs. A lot of these people are flat-out fakes, there are pretenders all over West Africa, you know ‘Sufi Shaykh, come and be a murid.’ The danger of Sufism that bothers me is there are a lot of principles in Tasawwuf that are very easily manipulated into certain cultic control mechanisms and they become very dangerous.

In the process of writing a youth development programme for learners of all ages, l noted in my research that there were general elements of influence that caused serious negative moral declines amongst our youth irrespective of age, gender, religion, ethnicity or culture. They weren't in any way unique in terms of whether you were rich or poor, black or white but they were significant in shaping the moral foundation of a child.

When a boy sees his father constantly verbally or physically ill treating or abusing his mother for example, what do you think that boy is going to do when he grows us? There is a good chance that he will follow the example set by his father. Another example...is when a parent uses inappropriate language infront of a child or allows a child to watch sexually explicit images on television. There is a high possibility that such a child will grow up swearing and indiscriminately using bad language towards his peers, teachers and family as well as potentially becoming sexually abusive.

These are the sad but natural implications of not having instilled proper Godly values and principles into our children's lives and when such child is then caught stealing, lying, bullying, using drugs or worse committing a crime, we then wonder how such a child went from being a loving, caring little innocent baby to a out of control tyrant. The point is that moral decline is not something that happens overnight. Its a gradual process that requires constant guidance, correction and yes, discipline.

Due to limited space, l will simply highlight the nine main causes of moral decline amongst our youth, they are: 1). Adverse Childhood Experiences; 2). Mental, Emotional Behavioural Disorders; 3). Influence and frequent use of unregulated, unmonitored and unsupervised social media platforms on phones and other devices; 4). Exposure to and uncontrollable use of violent, aggressive and sexually explicit material been shared and viewed through electronic and online games; 5). Peer pressure at schools; 6). The lack of good role models in our society; 7). Poor family values and virtues; 8). Little or no spiritual involvement and conviction and lastly but most certainly not the least, 9). The rapid decline of families adhering or been committed to a ‘lifestyle’ of religious principles and beliefs in the home.

THE MORAL DECLINE OF OUR YOUTH: HOW DO WE FIX IT?

Naturally, a child's most important tool they use to grow and develop into either a respectful law abiding citizen or into a potential criminal are their natural human senses. They learn by seeing, hearing and experiencing what we as adults, parents and the greater world around them do, say and instill into their hearts and minds.

There is an urgent need for an effective 'evangelization' by the Church and other spiritual bodies across this nation to get more involved into the lives of our children. When l use the term 'evangelization,' l am respectfully not asking of spiritual leaders to now go out and try and “Bible punch” children into forcing them to come to church or worse, to convert them without giving them a clear understanding of what it means to be a child of God. If we ever wish to make a significant impact amongst our youth then its vitally important that, a). We set a good example for what it means to be a good role model; and b). Our approach must be characterized by a process of engagement. After engaging, the purification of this sad reality begins by highlighting and integrating Godly values and principles back into our children which is the life giving spirit of the teachings of God. This will require a two tier approach. Just as our children learn both good and bad habits at home and at school, we will need to acknowledge and accept that we MUST bring the elements of spiritual wellness and awareness back into the home as well as the classroom.

NPC No.: 2020/269893/08 www.plantinghopefoundation.com mike@plantinghopefoundation.com Page 13Shopily your Smart Service, information & community E-Catalogue

When one places any or sadly all of these rather influential elements of moral decline into the basket of ‘childhood development,’ it is not surprising that you will soon find a negative if not catastrophic outcome not only amongst our youth but as a general characteristic of moral and ethical decay within our society. It is these moral outcomes that then ultimately lay the foundation for what will become either a nation grounded in moral values and principles or a nation happy to accept and live in a world that is riddled with violence, corruption, chaos and unlawful behaviour.

In today’s modern world, the decline of morality amongst our youth is very self evident. You only need to look at the recent unlawful and may l say shocking events that have involved young people or visit some of the juvenile sections of our Correctional Centres around the country to realise that we need to address the issue of morality as a matter of urgency. If not, we stand a good chance of losing not only this generation of youth but most certainly the next, to a life ruled and influenced by distorted ideologies, ungodly beliefs, criminal intent and unlawful behaviour.

The Moon spends the day in your sign, dear Taurus, and emotions are immediate and at the surface. You’re quick to react and respond with this transit, especially as the Moon aligns with Uranus today. Events seem to stir resentment, but the good news is that you have an excellent chance of resolving problems. You do need to watch for pushing things, however. Building pressures might now reach a turning point.

The Moon spends the day in your intimacy sector, dear Libra, continuing to encourage your need to go within. Unexpected feelings and desires can figure strongly. Some unresolved matters can emerge, and you can benefit from paying them attention. The desire to expand, learn, and experience life firsthand is at odds with your ambitions to manage your daily affairs. It can be challenging to ease off in either area! It may be a good idea to ease some of the pressure so that you can catch a break.

Today’s Moon signals the need to restore your energy, pull back, and heal, dear Gemini. You’re readying yourself for a new cycle that begins later tomorrow, and it’s a good idea to reflect and rest. Still, competitive feelings are stirring, and your desire to assert your independence or do your own thing is more potent than usual. The pressures to keep cool or stick to the rules are also in place, and you can feel torn between the two drives.

Sagittarius

The Moon spends the day in your solar sixth house, dear Sagittarius, spotlighting your habits, daily affairs, health, and duties. It’s a time of the lunar month when you seek to put things in order. Even so, aspects today tend to raise tensions, and frustrations or resentful feelings can emerge. You can feel torn between someone’s needs and your own desire for self-sufficiency and security.

Pisces

Scorpio

The Moon continues its transit of your partnership sector today, dear Scorpio, highlighting a need for interaction. Today’s energies are more intense, but they could help bring problems out into the open so you can put them behind you. It can be particularly frustrating if someone isn’t taking you seriously or if relationship tensions are interfering with your day. If so much is riding on a relationship or project that you’re no longer productive, it may be time to release some of the pressure.

Capricorn

Gemini

Aries

Taurus

With the Moon in your sector of wishes, plans, and friends all day, dear Cancer, you’re motivated to connect with your happiness goals or others. However, your private life can be animated, and today’s energies can pull up any fear you may have about not being ready or prepared for a situation. You could feel a little drained or demotivated, but the pressures to get things done are high. The good news is that you’re ready to change things. If you’ve been fixating on an unresolved, frustrating matter, you may want to put it behind you now.

WEEKLY HOROSCOPE

Spreading the Light of the Vedas

The Moon spends the day in your solar fifth house of joy, pleasure, and entertainment, dear Capricorn. While you should watch for the tendency to rush things today, it’s a generally good time to find release through enjoyable activities. Still, your ambition to improve your daily routines is strong, but your patience is short today, particularly if things aren’t moving fast enough. In moderation, competition is good for you if it encourages you to up your game with nutrition, health, fitness, or work.

The Moon continues its transit of your communications sector, dear Pisces, and you’re more inclined to connect and share today. It’s a lighthearted influence, but today’s aspects can stir some tensions. While you’re striving for more independence, a simultaneous desire for more security, warmth, and personal attention can seem to compete. It’s probably wise to identify areas of your life that keep you on high alert and prevent you from getting the downtime you need.

You’re a little more spontaneous, and an idea or opinion can send you on a new tangent. You want to improve, grow, and thrive. However, you can be dealing with competing drives today, making it wise to ease some of the pressure so that you can reduce stress. It’s not straightforward to make a decision today–you’re inclined to hedge a little. Frustrations can magnify, especially if you feel others are in the way of your goals, but you’re working toward a beautiful new perspective.

Virgo

Aquarius

For a full and detailed horoscope for 2022, email punditroshan@telkomsa.net

With the Moon in your solar second house all day, dear Aries, your comfort levels and practical activities are in stronger focus. While you seek more stability and predictability, the day’s energies keep you in a slight state of flux. It makes sense to give yourself and others space and freedom. There can be some impatience with matters that aren’t working as you’d like. It’s best not to speak too soon on an issue, as pressing as it may seem. Instead, aim to recognize anger if it’s been hanging around, causing problems in your life.

The Moon spends all day in the sector of home and personal life in your solar chart, dear Aquarius, and you continue to seek time and space to center yourself. Today’s transits nevertheless take you on a bit of a ride, stirring up some tension, but perhaps also some motivation to improve things. The goal is to identify habits or attitudes that have kept you from following your heart, pursuing love, or expressing yourself creatively. It may not be easy to fully back a decision today with the tendency for flaws to be magnified.

With today’s Moon, you’re more goal-oriented and aware of the rules or your plans, dear Leo. Still, you’re doing things a little differently, and ideas are unique. While transits today are complicated, stirring up some problems mindfully might help you get something out into the open. Releasing your grip on a relationship, a network, or a situation can help release the truth of a matter. Worrying about a problem may have caused far more damage than facing things.

Effective fund-raising requires one to be on the move - quickly and safely. Access to reliable and safe transport was becoming a growing challenge to the Pietermaritzburg & District Community Chest in recent years as its aging vehicle used by its Resource Mobilisation Officers was signalling time to be put out to pasture.

Together the Community Chest Council, Staff, partner notfor-profit organisations and the thousands of beneficiaries across the Umgungundlovu District, salute both Sibaya Community Trust and Niresh Gayadin Insurance Brokers for the collaboration that made this much needed resource available to the Community Chest. Also, a special word of appreciation to Mr Joey Govender of Joeys Towing for fuelling all Community Chest vehicles, since 2011.

PIETERMARITZBURG & DISTRICT COMMUNITY CHEST HAS NEW WHEELS!

It is with great appreciation and thanks then, that the Community Chest received with gratitude last week a brand new motor vehicle, generously sponsored jointly by the Sibaya Community Trust and Niresh Gayadin Insurance Brokers.

Sibaya Community Trust, chaired by renowned philanthropist Mr Vivian Reddy, who is a longstanding patron of the Community Chest, was established in 1998 to serve as a catalyst for social philanthropy.

Whilst the Community Chest is famous for raising millions of rand in funds and donations-in-kind for the benefit of other not-for-profit organisations, the public rarely gets to realise that the Community Chest itself is also only as effective as fund-raiser as its staff and the tools they have at hand to do the difficult task of mobilising funds and other donations on behalf of the less fortunate of our community. The need for another, more reliable motor vehicle was becoming an ever more urgent need for the Community Chest as the economy and communities opened up again, following the recent Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns.
