WHAT IS BOTOX?

Years of squinting and frowning can leave deep wrinkles that form between the eyebrows and may extend to the bridge of the nose. Wrinkles and frown lines also may appear across the forehead and at the corners of the eyes (“Crow's feet”). Dermatologist can quickly and safely inject Botolinum Toxin during an office visit to diminish these wrinkles and lines that create an angry or sad look and detract from a pleasant facial appearance.

WHAT IS BOTOLINUM TOXIN?

Botolinum toxin type A and botolinum toxin type B are purified substances, derived from a bacteria, that block muscular nerve signals. Injecting very small amounts into specific facial muscles blocks the muscle's impulse. This temporarily weakens the muscle and diminishes the unwanted lines. Botolinum toxin has been used since 1980 to treat many muscle disorders such as lazy eye and uncontrolled blinking. It was pioneered by dermatologic surgeons for cosmetic use in 1987. Botolinum toxin type A is specifically indicated for the lines between the eyebrows, and it also can effectively be used for "off-label" indications of other facial areas. Once the muscle is weakened and relaxed, it cannot contract, since there is no way to make the undesirable facial expression, the lines gradually smooth out, and prevent new creases from forming. Other muscles such as those needed to

raise the eyebrows are not affected, so a natural expression is maintained. For optimal results, botolinum toxin therapy may be used in combination with other cosmetic skin procedures such as chemicals peel, laser resurfacing, and dermal fillers. Combination therapy also can help prevent the formation of new lines and wrinkles. Botolinum toxin is less useful for the smile lines around the mouth because action in this area is needed for important functions such as eating and talking.

BOTOLINUM TOXIN THERAPY

Before treatment, the dermatologist obtains the patient's medical history, including any medications taken. Treatment involves injecting very small amount of botolinum toxin directly into the underlying facial muscles to relax them. A tiny needle is used; the procedure is well tolerated and takes just a few minutes with no ''down time'' or prolonged recovery period.

Botolinum toxin takes effects about 3 to 7 days after treatment. The improvement generally lasts about 3 to 4 months; the effect gradually fades as muscle action returns. Patients require re-injection at various intervals. With repeated treatments, atrophy (thinning) of the muscle may occur. This usually produces longer-lasting results.

Spreading the Light of the Vedas

For a full and detailed horoscope for 2023, email punditroshan@telkomsa.net

Aries

You may feel the need to oversee, over-manage, or keep tabs on your networks, but consider whether this is causing you too much tension. Stepping back a little may be appropriate. It’s probably better to accept that your feelings and beliefs will not necessarily harmonize with those of others for now.

Taurus

But the pressure to succeed or perform your responsibilities to the outside world is enormous. Tension results from the inclination to go hard in both personal and professional areas as Jupiter forms a square to Pluto, influencing today and, more generally, the month.

Gemini

Much is going on inside and in your dreaming world, dear Gemini, and hunches are powerful and hard to ignore. Right now, however, watch for tension as you feel compelled to go hard on extracurricular activities or learning, but you also have an increased need for rest, relaxation, and detox.

Cancer

You may need to deal with a fear of commitment or a fear of freedom – both can be issues, and both need managing so that you can live a happier life. There can be concerns about losing something you’ve spent a lot of time and energy building, but also a need to be free of restricting, limiting ties.

Leo

You’re likely to feel much better about yourself if you get what needs to be done out of your way today, dear Leo. Refusing to play by the rules in your professional life may be a theme these days, but if you’re genuinely bored with excessive tradition or structure, you might work on breaking free in constructive ways.

Virgo

While you might be able to tap into this energy and use it for good, you could feel it limits the time and energy you have to explore your extra-curricular activities, which is discouraging. In fact, both areas of life are powerful draws. It would be best if you found a balance so that you can work and get your life into order.

Libra

Ideally, you learn a lot about yourself and important people in your life through observation. However, do watch for overthinking to the point that you ignore what you feel about a matter. Major shifts in your expectations from, and attitudes toward, romance are occurring, but any obsessiveness in this regard is likely due to fear.

Scorpio

The need for others becomes more apparent. Counseling, advice, or other one-to-one connections can be themes. You might examine whether your attachment to certain traditions and ways of living could be restricting growth in relationships.

Sagittarius

To move forward more authentically, happily, and freely, some projects may need to go, you may need to delegate some of your work, or for the sake of your health and well-being, you need to free yourself of a secret that has been weighing you down.

Capricorn

Your desire to break free and try new things and ways of expressing yourself is growing, and excessive attachments to methods and things that make you feel secure may hinder this process. There could also be confusion in personal relationships, primarily because, on the one hand, you fear losing someone or a particular way of life. On the other, you want to enjoy some personal freedoms.

Aquarius

This process of striving for a sense of being grounded can happen on both inner and outer levels. At this time, you might see where unhealthy attachments and attitudes may hinder your chance to move forward and take advantage of opportunities to grow and improve.

Pisces

.You might learn that freeing yourself from certain burdensome issues or secrets you’ve been keeping to yourself can be liberating, but be selective regarding who you share yourself with. You might also be dealing with insecurities or fears holding you back from saying what you feel.
