Developing EMOTIONAL Wellness

If you often overreact when things don’t go your way and end up having to apologize later or are weighed down by negative thoughts, even if much of it doesn’t affect your own day-to-day life, you could probably benefit from hiring a holistic wellness coach.

Wellness coaches are people with optimal emotional health neither bury their feelings nor wallow in them. Instead, they identify them, determine their underlying cause, and work through them. In other words, they don’t bottle anything up, or think too deeply about things.

Some approaches that wellness coaches take can range in the following, meditation therapy, Hypnosis, Pranic healing, Reiki Energy clearing, Spiritual therapy, Aromatherapy, Qigong or Yoga.

Whichever way you choose, you should start your holistic healing journey today and seek out a reputable wellness coach in your nearby area.

LICHEN PLANUS

LICHEN PLANUS (PRONOUNCED L Y-KIN PLAN-US)

is a common inflammatory disease of the skin and mouth. It affects about one to two percent of the general population. The name " lichen" refers to the lichen plants which grows on rocks or trees, and "planus'' means flat.

(LP)? How do you get the disease? Can it be cured?

WHAT IS LICHEN PLANUS IS NOT?

To understand what LP is, it is important to note what the disease is not. LP is not an infectious disease. It is impossible to catch LP from someone else. He disease is not a form of cancer, it does not appear to be inherited, and it is not related to nutrition.

WHAT IS LICHEN PLANUS

LP is an inflammatory disease that affects the skin, the mouth (oral), or both. It may also affect the genital skin. Skin LP affects men and women equally, but oral LP affects women twice as often as men. LP occurs most frequently in middle-aged adults. The cause of LP is not known. While there are many theories to explain LP, most dermatologist believe it can be classified as an autoimmune disease. This means that white blood cells which usually fight germs begin to attack the normal parts of the skin, mucous membranes, hair, and nails. There are cases of lichen planus-type rashes for high blood pressure. Heart disease, and arthritis. Identifying and stopping the drug helps clear up the condition within few weeks. Some people with LP can also have hepatitis C, and the dermatologist may check it.

LICHEN PLANUS OF THE SKIN

This skin Feature was rendered by Dr Raj Singh, educating the community on skin disease. He is available for a consultation at his, Scottsville branch in Pietermaritzburg or at his Durban branch.

LP of the skin is characterized by reddish-purple, flattopped bumps that may be very itchy. Some may have a white lacy appearance called Wickham's striae. They can be anywhere on the body, but seem to favour the inside of the wrists and ankles. The disease can also occur on the lower back, neck, legs, genital, and in rare cases, the scalp and nails. LP on the legs is usually much darker in appearance. There may be thick patches (hypertrophy LP) especially on the shins.

Blisters are rare except in special cases called bullous LP. While the typical appearance of LP makes the disease somewhat easy to identify, a skin biopsy may be needed to confirm the diagnosis. LP of the skin usually causes few problems and needs no treatment. If there is severe itching there is help. Many cases of LP go away within two years. As it heals, LP often leaves a dark brown discolouration on the skin. Like the bumps themselves, these stains may eventually fade with time without treatment. About one out of five people will have a second attack of LP.

TREATMENT FOR LP OF THE SKIN

There is no known cure for LP but treatment is often effective in relieving itching and in improving the appearance of the rash until it goes away. Since every case of LP is different. No one treatment is perfect. The two most common treatments include the use of topical corticosteroid creams, ointments, or other anti-inflammatory drugs, and antihistamines taken by mouth. More severe cases of LP may require stronger medications such as cortisone taken internally or a specific form of ultraviolet light treatment called PUVA. Discuss any potential drug side effects with your dermatologist. As with other skin disorders, following your dermatologist's advice is the best approach for dealing with LP. Since new areas of LP can form in the damage skin, try to avoid injury.

Dog Training

Did you know, professional dog behaviour training you can still teach a fully grown dog to be a safe and compliant companion?

It’s critical that your dog learn to sit and stay. Uncontrolled, can be seen as a hairy beast, creating havoc around a table of glasses or unwittingly terrorizing strangers and other dogs. Learning the basics will help learn to make your dog sit or stay among the other valuable lessons.

In the long run, giving dogs proper training from early on, is important for their mental stimulation and hence their happiness. It also means you’ll be able to take your dog to more places, and meet new people and other dogs without the worry of aggression or bad behaviour.

Remember dog training also relates to good pet care.

COMRADES MARATHON MEDIA ACCREDITATION APPLICATIONS OPEN

This Is It - Ziyasha

MEDIA ACCREDITATION INFORMATION

Demand for Comrades Marathon media accreditation has increased to the extent that it has become increasingly necessary to limit access to these facilities. We sincerely regret that we have no option but to apply strict limitations on the number of accredited journalists. Priority will be given on the basis of national circulation figures, i.e. major circulation daily newspapers, photographic agencies, digital media, radio stations and CMA official photographers.

Media Accreditation will be much more stringently allocated than in the past, and under no circumstances will we process applications for Media Accreditation during the week prior to the race.

Note that we will be strictly limiting the number of accredited journalists from any one respective organisation.

ACCREDITATION

Race Day Accreditation and allocation of access to facilities will be issued solely at the discretion of the Comrades Marathon Association. The CMA reserves the right to make all race day media facilities and area assignments.

MEDIA ACCREDITATION APPLICATIONS

The Media Accreditation Application is available at www.comrades. com and must include a digital photo. Applications close on Wednesday, 17 May 2023.

COLLECTION OF MEDIA ACCREDITATIONS

Media Accreditation must be collected from the Media Centre, Comrades Expo, Durban Exhibition Centre (DEC), Mezzanine Floor, 11 Walnut Road, Durban, during the following days between 10am and 5pm: Thursday, 8 June 2023; Friday, 9 June 2023 and Saturday 10 June 2023.

Note - The Media Centre will be closed for the duration of any Official Media Conferences. Date(s) and Time(s) of the official media conferences will be advised and posted at the Media Centre.

NB - MEDIA ACCREDITATION WILL NOT BE POSTED, NOR WILL IT BE ISSUED ON RACE DAY.

NO NEW APPLICATIONS WILL BE PROCESSED AT EXPO.

TYPES OF ACCREDITATION AVAILABLE

1. General Media Accreditation will provide access to the following facilities: Media Centre Facilities at the Comrades Expo from 8 to 10 June 2023. Any special Media Conferences scheduled by the CMA which might be held in Durban during 8 to 11 June 2023 (dates and times to be advised).

Post-race interviews with gold medallists and others.

NO ROUTE ACCESS STICKERS WILL BE ISSUED TO INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA. However, we urge members of the media to make use of the facilities we will be providing at the Comrades Finish Venue from 7am to 6pm from which the progress of the race can be viewed live on television monitors with regular supplementary information updates provided during the course of the day.

Media Truck Access is extremely limited and will be made available at the sole discretion of the CMA. Two Media Trucks will once again be provided for the exclusive use of selected radio and print journalists. Seating will be limited to a maximum of 34 persons and it may therefore be necessary to allow only one representative per organisation, with national circulation figures dictating precedence. Any request for Media Truck Access must be indicated clearly on the Media Accreditation application.

3. Only photographers allocated with Finish Line Accreditation will be permitted inside the Finish Area. Again we stress that this will be very strictly allocated at the sole discretion of the CMA, to mainstream media photographers only. It will also be limited per organisation, with only one photographer from any one organisation permitted inside the Finish Area at any one time. Any request for Finish Line Access must be indicated on the Media Accreditation application; but will not necessarily be allocated.

4. Media Bike Accreditation - A very limited number of motorbikes with drivers will be made available on a strictly allocated basis. Any request for motorbike and driver must be indicated on the Media Accreditation application; but will not necessarily be allocated.

MEDIA FACILITIES AT THE FINISH

Media Facilities at the Finish Venue at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium at 2 Kingsmead Way, Durban, will be available from 7am to 6pm and will provide the following:

- Sports Splits Event Management race and runner information

- Television monitors

- Race results and bulletins made available in hard copy throughout the day

- Tea, coffee and liquid refreshments throughout the day

- Refreshments and lunch at scheduled intervals

There will be no access to runners on the Finish Line. Gold Medallists and others will however be brought to the Media Interviewing Facility for a Media Conference on Race Day.

CMA personnel will be on hand to assist Members of the Media. Delaine Cools will be in charge of managing the Media Facilities. The Chairperson, Mqondisi Ngcobo; the Vice Chairperson, Les Burnard and the Race Director, Rowyn James are the official spokespersons for the Comrades Marathon Association.

Spreading the Light of the Vedas

Aries

The Moon moves into your solar fourth house, dear Aries, inspiring a homey focus on comfort. Mars is in this sector for a longer time, animating and enlivening your domestic or private life, and can supply the motivation or energy to make needed changes or to take charge of these affairs.

Taurus

The Moon moves into your communications sector for a stay of over two days, dear Taurus, encouraging you to stay mentally active. The Moon meets with Mars today, further animating your thoughts, ideas, connections, and conversations.

Gemini

The Moon moves into your resources sector for a stay of over two days, dear Gemini, and you focus on enjoying what you have or finding ways to acquire what you need. Transits today can mobilize a brewing matter related to money, respect, or comfort. You may experience some impatience with methods or processes that are getting in the way of your efforts.

Cancer

Your friendships, network, or social life could surprise you or throw you a curve ball today, dear Cancer, clashing with your personal goals or personality. Impatience is likely now, and changes of plans can annoy you, but they might also lead to interesting detours.

Leo

The Moon’s move into your solar twelfth house points to the need for a break from the usual routine, dear Leo. Its alignment with Mars stirs your desires and need for action, however. You could find it particularly difficult taking orders from others today–you’d rather go your own way, but be confident in your choices as you may be limiting your opportunities down the road with hasty, ill-timed moves today.

Virgo

Networking stirs feelings today, dear Virgo, or you’re putting more energy into long-term plans and happiness goals. You can feel a little rebellious or impatient with friends today if you feel they’re not moving quickly enough and slowing you down. Instead, there can be frustration with others’ opinions and ideas now.

Libra

You’re more goal-oriented right now, dear Libra, and you can be motivated to reach a goal or fulfill a duty. You have more courage or initiative, but today, you could have a hard time directing it. There can be some minor upsets or tension surrounding parents, bosses, or long-term plans, particularly if you’ve felt a lack of support or reliability with others, which can stir the pot.

Scorpio

The Moon moves into your solar ninth house today, dear Scorpio, meeting Mars there and inspiring your enthusiasm about a plan, topic, or idea. Watch that differences of opinion or differing interests don’t lead to unnecessary conflicts with others.

Sagittarius

Your desire to focus is compelling, dear Sagittarius, although not always feasible today. You can feel particularly excited about pouring your energy into a specific project or relationship. However, your sometimes chaotic schedule can get in the way of both focus and necessary time to indulge your interests. Aim to bring more order to your life.

Capricorn

The Moon moves into your opposite sign, where it will transit for over two days, dear Capricorn, challenging you to find a better balance. Aggravations in a relationship today may have their root in the sense of being unable to rely on someone. Or they can arise from a need for more spontaneity, romance, or excitement, depending on the nature of your connection.

Aquarius

The Moon’s move into your work and health sector turns your attention to improving your daily affairs, health, and habits, dear Aquarius. But as it meets with Mars and Uranus challenges Mars, you may want to rush through your routines. It would be best if you watched for impatience that leads to trip-ups.

Pisces

The Moon moves into your sector of joy and self-expression for a stay of over two days, dear Pisces. Strong desires and passions come to the surface as the Moon meets Mars, rather newly in this area of your solar chart. It’s best to watch for impatient words.

EXIGO INDUSTRIES HELPS COMMUNITY

CHEST UPHOLD THE DIGNITY OF CHILDREN, GIRL LEARNERS AND THE ELDERLY

Schools, children’s homes, hospices and old-age homes are reeling under the mounting cost of everything! Add to this the cost of providing sanitary products for those in their care. At stake is the dignity of the child, terminally-ill and frail senior citizen.

The Community Chest sent out appeals to its donor community and was overwhelmed by the generosity of support given by Exigo Industries. Exigo Industries sent a truckload of sanitary wear products to the Offices of the Community Chest with a range of sizes to suit babies, children, youth and adults. It was nothing short of answered prayer in abundance.

Staff at Community Chest was overjoyed that they could invite many more of its partner organisations to benefit from this Godsend. Thank you Exigo Industries for your generosity! The various benefitting organisations also expressed their thanks to Exigo Industries for the show of kindness that has ensured that they can continue to care for others in need, with dignity.

If you wish to partner with the Community Chest in the 2023/2024 financial year, please contact Angie Narayanan on 072 791 0311 or email her on chestpro@communitychest.org.za
