Knowledge and Wisdom ~ Irshad Soofi
He walks with this light. This really is the essence of Islamic Knowledge. Hazrath Abul Hassan Ali al-Kharqani d.10th of Muharram in 425 H. (1033 CE) didn’t attend Madrasah. He was the Ghaus of his time not through knowledge (ilm) but through the grace (fazl) of Allah. Lets get Back to the Holy Qur’aan And back to the Holy Prophet Muhammad. There’s a saying misinterpreted and used as a manipulation tool by many: Whoever doesn’t have a Shaykh, Shaytan is his Shaykh Generally, first and foremost it means you have to have a teacher for the Shariah. You have to have someone who teaches you the religion. Get teachers even if you have to pay them. Have teachers. You need teachers to guide you.
You need to have sources of knowledge. In terms of spiritual advancement, if people are having spiritual experiences it’s good to have people who know what they are doing. Suhba (companionship) is also good. Many of the true Shuyukh of this period, like Sidi Abdal Hakim Murad Winters is of the opinion that taslim the idea of surrendering onesself like a dead body in the hands of a mortician, was over, the surrendering yourselves to a Shaykh completely was over, this wasn’t its time. And there are a lot of dysfunctional aspects in a lot of relationships that happen, so there are problems in all these systems. And surrendering your sovereignty, you have to be very careful with that, who you surrender your sovereignty to, some people demand a lot.

CAREER FOCUS with Alia Gani
Tell us a bit about yourself My name is Alia Gani. I am an Aesthetic Practitioner and I own LaserBerry Aesthetic Clinic. I studied Holistic Therapy at Bio-Luminesce Academy. My business has been in operation for 6 years. I’m also an author of the novel “Tattoo” which is a romance novel. I am business minded, very ambitious and I am all about women empowerment. What inspired you to choose your respective field of work / business? Being indian, hair is a concern for most of us. When I was in matric I had a friend that did laser hair removal. At that time laser was fairly new in the beauty industry. Upon hearing this, I knew that this was the industry I wanted to be in. After matric I followed in my dads footsteps, I did a bit of graphic designing. Today I am able to do my own marketing and advertising with the knowledge I have gained from my dad. My dad finally gave me the opportunity to study beauty and aesthetics, while doing so I also worked as a beauty adviser. This helped me to gain confidence and experience with dealing with customers and I also wrote a factual- fiction romance novel at the time. The book did extremely well and I was able to save a lot of money. My dad and I worked extremely hard to make my dream a reality. These were some of my stepping stones along the way. Finally in December 2015, my dream came to life when LaserBerry Aesthetic Clinic finally opened its doors. It was hard work and true dedication that got me here. I did not wake up one day with the idea of copying another business. Rather, I have a travelled a jouney of surpries that led me to my greatest passion. What service, services do you offer? We cater to most skin and hair concerns such as, hair loss, pigmentation, acne and weight loss. We specialize in aesthetic procedures such as microneedling, advanced laser hair removal, medical peels, wart and skin tag removal, aesthetic facials and so much more.
How many employees do you have? I don’t have any employees. However we are a strong team of 3, each of us offer a unique service under one roof. I offer all the aesthetic procedures, while we have a beauty expert that offers beauty treatments such as waxing, brow mapping, medical peels, dermaplaning and more. We also have a skilled hairdresser that offers cuts, color, treatments and upstyles. This makes LaserbBerry your one stop shop. What makes your team so effective? Each of us offer a different and unique service related to the health and beauty field. This way, we are able to cross market for each other, allowing the business to grow. To what do you attribute your success? I attribute my success to my clients. They have always recommened me to others, its word of mouth. They have always thanked me for helping them, they are my motivation. If they did not have trust in me none of this would have been possible. Their constant messages with positive feedback is most rewarding. What’s your company’s objective? Its been my priority since day one to offer quality treatments. We offer something that is unique - we educate each client on the importance of good skin care and treatments. We walk each client through their skin care journey with us so that they never have to feel uncertain. Our main goal is to help clients look better and feel better resulting in a greater self-confidence What do you like doing in your spare time? I spend all my spare time with my husband and my grandad. I enjoy activities such as soap making, gardening, shopping, baking and always trying new food. What advice would you give to the next generation aspiring to follow the same career path? Don’t choose a career because it pays well. Choose it because you are passionate about it. If you love what you do you will never work a day in your life.

Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver. It cannot not be linked to any specific cause, or sickness because the liver can be inflamed for many different reasons such as over the limit alcohol intake, drugs or even harsh medications. It can be spread from person to person, if one is in contact with an infected persons secretions and infected fluids. It is commonly also transmitted through drug users sharing the same needles.
World Hepatitis Day is celebrated on the 28th of July each year
The most common symptoms include fatigue, muscle pain, dark urine, yellow jaundice (skin and eyes turn yellow in appearance), nausea and abdominal pain. Please ensure you visit a medical professional for a check up if you experience any of the symptoms. There are cures for Hepatitis but it depends on the type you have, as there are types A, B and C. Recent studies show that antiviral treatments can cure most type C cases. If infected a medical professional would prescribe the correct medication to help you recover. Best preventative measures would be to avoid contact with anyone who you know of that may be infected. To avoid sharing needles or staying away from body piercing or tattoo parlours that do not follow proper hygiene and sterilisation of equipment measures.

MariAmman Māri also known as MariAmman and Mariaai or simply Amman or Aatha is the South Indian Hindu Goddess who can take away any kind of illness or disease and a fertility (rain) Goddess. The word Mari has a sangam tamil origin meaning “Rain” and the Dravidian root term Amman meaning “Mother”. She is the main South Indian mother Goddess, predominant in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Māri is closely associated with the Hindu Goddesses Parvati and Durga. Goddess MariAmman and Goddess Kali are closely associated with each other. Festivities for her happen during the late summer, early autumm season of "Aadi". Throughout the deccan region, a grand festival known as "Aadi Thiruvizha" are taken for MaariAmman. Her worship mainly focuses on bringing rains and curing diseases like cholera, smallpox, and chicken pox. She is usually taken in procession in a decorated chariot. MariAmman is an ancient Goddess, whose worship probably originated from pre-Vedic mother of Dravidian people before the arrival of the Aryans with their Brahmanic religion. " She was believed and worshipped by the ancient Dravidian people to bring rain and hence prosperity to them as their vegetation was mainly dependent upon rain. The Goddess was not a local deity, connected to a specific location but worshiped throughout the Dravidian nation. The worshiping methods are non-vedic and often accompanied by various kinds of folk dancing. Offerings such as Pongal and Koozh that were cooked using earthen pots were also made during the festive season. Rituals such as fire walking and mouth or nose piercing were also practiced.

The Bhagavad Gita Offering various paths for spiritual progress and filled with wisdom and positivity, Gita acts as a beacon to the world writes Pundit Roshan Singh. Love is one of the most spoken and least understood words in our daily vocabulary. Love is commonly equated with sensual enjoyment, but does such superficial titillation offer substantial satisfaction to the heart. The suffering of the stomach hungry for food is well-recognised, but the agony of the heart hungry for love is often overlooked. Krishna starts His message of love by enlightening Arjuna: “We are all souls, spiritual beings (Gita 2.13), entitled to rejoice in eternal love with the supremely lovable and loving God, Krishna.” When our loving nature is contaminated by selfishness, we start loving things more than persons, especially the Supreme Person. This misdirected love forges our misidentification with our temporary bodily coverings and impels us to exploit others for our self-centered desires.

SPIRITUAL
TRANSFORMATION by Pastor Mike Gobel
Associate Pastor of ‘The Campus Church’
OVERCOMING THE STORMS OF LIFE INTRODUCTION Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you suddenly find yourself in a challenging situation where everything feels like a struggle and your problems just add up out of proportion. No matter what the situation is, you have a choice how you are going to respond to it. It all depends on your attitude. The fact is that life is not easy, and you can depend on it to not be fair. Bad things happen even to good people. Trials and tribulations, pain and suffering does not choose someone according to race, gender, social status or religious orientation, such storms are part of life, what makes them different is how we are prepared to deal with them. Whether you face the storms with courage, faith and a positive attitude or with cursing, frowning and complaining, you are not going to change the storms… they will come. It’s up to you if life’s challenging storms will make you better or bitter. I believe a trial is a test of your faith, character and endurance. See it as an opportunity for a promotion towards spiritual growth and maturity. It is the struggle that gives us strength. Without opposition and resistance there is no potential for progress. Without the resistance of water, a ship cannot float and without the resistance of gravity one cannot walk. Yet, it is the tendency of the human race to want things easily. We are always looking for the easy way out and the quickest way to get there.
The Bible says work out your own salvation. Salvation is more than a one time prayer. It is more than a “goose bump” moment. It is constantly working with God dealing with the issues of our character, sinful nature, our sin and our choices till victory is eventually part of your life. God never promised that we would not have challenges. In fact, He said just the opposite. 1 Petrus 1: 6-7 states “In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.” (NLV) When you go through difficult times make sure you past the test. Do not be stubborn and hard headed. Recognise that God is refining you, knocking off some of your rough edges. Stand strong and fight the good fight of faith and perseverance. God has called all of us to become overcomers. If you will work with God and keep a good attitude, then no matter what comes against you, the Bible says that all things, not just the good things in life, but all things will work together for your good. When you are struggling, read Romans 8 again and make verses 37 – 39 your own. Some practical tips to carry you through a storm: 1.
Keep an attitude of gratitude.
No shortcuts to maturity
2.
Don’t try to face a storm alone.
Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts in life to the things that are really worth having. There is no way to mature physically, emotionally of spiritually without growth. A seed in the ground must break through its own shell and then through various layers of soil before it can finally be in the sunlight. Even then the small plant must endure extreme weather conditions before it finally can become a mature tree fulfilling its purpose of bearing fruit.
3.
Let go of things that are beyond your control, and work on the things that you can change.
4.
Be kind to yourself.
5.
Use the time of suffering to draw nearer to God and don’t make hasty decisions.
6.
The storm will pass so never give up.
7.
There is power in prayer, so use it wisely.

CMA Race Director, Rowyn James says, “Due to the massive roadworks on the N3 for the first 30km of the race from Pietermaritzburg to Cato Ridge, if you are travelling to the start from Durban on the morning of the race you are advised to leave extra early (by latest 3am), perhaps an hour earlier than you would normally do, as the sheer volume of traffic will definitely lead to congestion and a substantially longer travelling time. Without any accidents or vehicle breakdowns, you can factor in the journey taking you one hour and thirty minutes.”

PROMOTING PEACE, RECONCILIATION, SOCIAL COHESION AND NON-VIOLENCE
365 DAYS OF NO TO GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE - ESSAY Chandrika Singh, Grade 11, Kharina Secondary School
When one looks at defining Gender-Based Violence (GBV) it is important not to banally label either gender into being the victim or the assaulter. I believe GBV stems from the duties and preferences that people have assigned gender roles. GBV is more that just the suffering of a few individuals. It is a global pandemic that depreciates the core of a developing society. Similar to the newly sprouted corona virus, GBV has had its mutations, a certain group more prone to infection as well as those who have survived and perished in the adversity. However a quick vaccine and prescribed antibiotics strengthen our defence against pathogens such as Covid-19. But curing GBV isn’t as simple as needle through skin. It has originated from earliest civilisation and still present itself largely in today’s psychologically advanced world. This is because it’s continuity is guaranteed by erroneous parenting styles, the prejudices of our society and the deceptive depictions of media. The early teaching instilled in young minds are extremely important as it sets the foundation of the individuals they will one day become. The injection of such a potent misconception regarding masculinity and feminism, is precisely what gives rise to GBV. Therefore it makes abolishing GBV all the more difficult as the mental frame of our minds is the most complacent of all inexorable things.
More effort should be directed in educating our present and subsequent cohorts. Behind a female is her role of mother, daughter and sister. Speaking as a female myself, consent is a vital component to healthy relationships and is the clarity of my dignity. A male plays the role of a father, son and brother. For a man to gain place in society it cannot be expected for him to acquire it through a lack of emotion or a show of physical strength. Beyond all our roles it is important to remember we all share a common bond of being human. The progression of our world lies solely on our ability to mould our own perspectives. Can a stay-at-home dad not be looked as a loving father who prioritizes his family? Can a woman flourishing in the occupational field not be looked at as favourable growth? GBV exists in many forms that are controlled by numerous differentiating factors. It’s an impossible task to solve GBV by categorising the different forms all under one heading. However I do believe that great results can be seen if we were to change our attitudes. In this fight we often forget that our aim is equality, not dominance over each other. The goal is not to empower one gender above the other but to level the playing field. As we embark together as a united global nation against GBV for the next 365 days, I hope dear reader that you become a pillar of society. Let this small step of humanity give way to a fair happy tomorrow.

A new start with family, home life, or living conditions and arrangements is possible in the week ahead. You might immerse yourself in family projects or home improvement activities. Nevertheless, it’s best to treat today as a transitional day rather than a time for bold moves.
Scorpio Today’s New Moon puts you in an excellent place to make improvements and updates to your life, dear Scorpio, mainly with finances, business, work, and health. For now, think about your goals and resolutions.
Sagittarius Today’s New Moon can drive new beginnings and a fresh start with education, publishing, promotion, travel, adventure, or sharing ideas, dear Sagittarius. Virgo With today’s New Moon in your solar twelfth house, dear Virgo, it’s an important time for you to look back and review, process, and digest recent events. A sense of inner well-being can come from making plans for the future that inspire growth and hope. At the same time, it’s not quite the time to lock things down. Rather, you’re exploring possibilities and connecting with your inner needs. Today’s New Moon inspires a strong need for rest and replenishment–spiritual needs and mental health are priorities.
