Essence of Islam

A good example of that is once the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was with a group of his companions and there was a woman who was nursing her child.

And the Prophet Muhammad said: “Do you think this woman would throw her child into the fire?” and they all said: “No”. And he said: Well, God’s mercy is greater to His servants than that woman’s to her child.

So he was showing analogously how we understand the mercy of God. You see it’s understood through examples

in the world, so in that way God can be known through attributes, but not essentially. We can’t know the essential nature of God other than that there is nothing like it. So for people that have accepted that, then next is to come into a type of harmony with the world and the way that is done primarily is by synchronizing with the sun, because all living things on the planet have a deep relationship with the sun and to light. Even a fish in the depths of the ocean living in deep darkness still has a relationship with the sun and this is one of the reasons why human beings have mistakenly worshipped the sun in the past.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

The terms fat injection and fat transfer refer to the process of taking fat from your stomach area (or another area) and injecting it into your facial area (or other area). The goal of the procedure is to add fullness to the face, lips, buttocks or hands. Facial fat injections, by virtue of the fullness, give some lifting to the general facial structure.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM FAT INJECTION OR FAT TRANSFERS TO THE FACE?

As you age, the dermis under your skin thins out. This can leave the face looking too thin and has the effect of making the skin look like it sags. This happens to women of all body types: small frame, medium frame, large frame. A fat injection adds fat to the area beneath the skin, and has the effect of 'filling out the face' to a more youthful state. In addition to filling out wrinkles in the face, highly purified fat injections also enhance the blood circulation in the tissues. This is because there are a small number of stem cells that are collected and concentrated during the fat processing. Thus, a small number of stem cells are re injected into your face!

WHAT AREAS OF THE FACE BENEFIT FROM FAT INJECTIONS?

Fat injections are commonly used to rejuvenate the lips, bags under the eyes, cheeks and chin. Patients may be familiar with the use of fat injections for lip augmentation, but there are many other uses in the face. For example, fat injections can also be used to lessen the lines around the mouth, fill in bags under the eyes, fill out the cheeks and chin (areas which might have otherwise used facial implants), or as an all purpose filler in the face. As we continue to understand the ageing process better, we have come to appreciate that in some patients, rather than stretching tissues, adding soft tissue volume (such as fat) will make the face look younger. We find ourselves using fat injections for 'touch-ups' and as a part of face lift surgery.

DO FAT INJECTIONS LAST?

Some patients think that fat injections "do not last". However, this is not the case. When properly done, a large percentage of the injected fat cells do indeed survive and are permanent. Since some fat cells are lost, the effect of the fat transfer is not as dramatic after a few weeks. For this reason, we tend to 'overcorrect,' or inject more than we need to, knowing that after a few weeks the final result will be more to the patient's liking. If we inject less, the patient may be happy with the initial result, but be disappointed over time as the results 'disappear'.

WHAT OTHER PARTS OF THE BODY ARE FAT INJECTIONS OR FAT TRANSFERS DONE?

Fat transfers can be used for buttocks augmentation, also known as the Brazilian butt lift. Fat is first liposuctioned from the stomach or flank area and then processed in a special decanting technique. The purified fat is then transferred or injected into the butt with special cannulas. Using fat transfers for butt augmentation gives a very flattering, sensual, and natural look.

Another area which can benefit from a fat injection is the

hands. Fat injections can give the hand a fuller and younger contour.

HOW ARE FAT INJECTIONS DIFFERENT FROM INJECTIBLE FILLERS LIKE RESTYLANE?

Compared to injectable facial fillers such as Restylane, fat transfers are more of an involved procedure because the fat has to be harvested from another part of the body. However, unlike injectable fillers, fat transfers can be used in larger volumes to fill larger defects.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE FAT INJECTION PROCEDURE FOR THE FACIAL AREA?

Fat injections can be done under local or sedation anesthesia. Using small syringes, fat is harvested from the hip, inner or outer thigh, lower back, or lower abdomen. The fat is then processed in a special centrifuge, and is then injected into the desired area. When performed properly, a large percentage of the fat transfer will stay and the face will fill out to look more youthful.

HOW MUCH DO FAT INJECTIONS COST?

The dermatologists fee for fat injections to the face ranges from R32 000.00 to R35 000.00, depending on the area(s) to be injected. If the procedure is done in conjunction with another facial procedure, a professional discount is usually applied.

Fat transfers have been used for more than 100 years to fill in facial flaws such as hollowed cheeks, sunken eyes or indented scars, but what is old is new again. Today, new fat transfer techniques (also known as fat grafting) are used to augment many other areas of the body, including the buttocks, biceps, triceps, calf muscles, breasts, hands and penis.

Fat transfers have traditionally been used to surgically fill in and soften the edges of small, localized areas of the body. By comparison, body implants have traditionally been viewed as better for sculpting larger areas of the body. This perception is changing as dermatologists have begun to use larger-volume fat transfers, instead of artificial implants, to enhance the buttocks and other parts of the body.

A fat transfer involves your own fat cells, which means that it’s biocompatible and may help eliminate the risk of allergic reaction or rejection. Also, a body fat transfer feels and looks more natural than a body implant. However, the results of this particular derm surgery may be unpredictable. Much of the injected fat is absorbed, leaving an average of about 40 percent in place (although some dermatologists claim a higher success rate).

SPEND YOUR MONEY WISELY, THIS FESTIVE SEASON

We all need to manage our money well. While money may not make the world go around, and while there are much more important things in life, it is what allows us to lead safe, healthy and comfortable lifestyles in the long run. You need to manage your money in order to ensure that you always have enough for those unexpected surprises.

First things first, let’s focus on budget. We can’t overemphasize the importance of setting yourself a budget and sticking to this budget. Put simply, a budget is a money management tool that allows you to determine how much money you have coming in, how much will inevitably go out and how much you have left to play with. Start out by focusing on money in eg. how much money do you have deposited into your bank account each month. This connects directly to spending your money responsibly.

To save money, you will need to dedicate a percentage of your disposable income to a savings account of some sort. You can have a separate bank account, but generally speaking, you will benefit more from opening a dedicated savings account with good interest rates. Work hand in hand with a wealth management company or an experienced wealth management specialist who will be able to advise you on where is best to invest your money.

Of course, there are more in-depth steps to successful money management, but for now, those outlined above should help to get you off to a good start!

LAUNCH OF 2023 COMRADES MARATHON

The 2023 Comrades campaign slogan summed up the feelings around next year’s event as the organising body of the world’s greatest ultramarathon hosted its launch at Comrades House today (Tuesday, 22 November 2022).

Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Chairperson, Mqondisi Ngcobo unveiled the slogan, “This is it –Ziyasha”, as runners and supporters anticipate the 2023 running of The Ultimate Human Race.

The launch was attended by members of the media, roadrunning dignitaries, CMA sponsors, stakeholders, reigning champ, Tete Dijana, former winners and other elite athletes.

Ngcobo said, “The slogan goes in hand with the hype and excitement that is building around next year’s race, which is largely a result of the immense success of this year’s Comrades Marathon. The return of The Ultimate Human Race signalled a sense of jubilation and freedom for runners, both in South Africa and around the world. As organisers of this larger-than-life event, we count on the support of runners and share in the joy of being able to run again.”

The 96th Comrades Marathon will be a Down Run on Sunday, 11 June 2023, starting at the inland City of Pietermaritzburg at 05h30 and ending 12 hours later in the coastal City of Durban. Due to the ongoing roadworks, the distance will be approximately 90km. This will be the 48th Comrades Down Run, which is finally on par with the same number of Up Runs.

The entry period opens at midday today and will close at 16h30 on 9 December 2022 or once the entry cap of 20 000 has been reached, whichever comes first.

Entry fees remain the same as that of the 2022 Comrades and are as follows:

Entry Type Entry fee

South Africa 2023 Entrants R1 200

Rest of Africa 2023 Entrants R2 000

International 2023 Entrants R4 500

2020 International and ROA entrants who did not participate in the 2022 event will not be required to pay an entry fee. This will be the last year in which deferred entries can be utilized.

Deferred foreign entries may NOT be substituted out for the 2023 Comrades Marathon.

Entry fee is waived for holders of 25 or more Comrades medals.

Online entries can be done via the Comrades Marathon website: www.comrades.com;

CMA Race Director, Rowyn James says, “Our runners have spoken and we have listened; and in that line are pleased to be returning to our June race date. As usual, our race organising committee plans to pull out all the stops in ensuring a hugely exciting race day for our athletes.

Qualifying for the 2023 Comrades Marathon is applicable as of 25 September 2022 till 2 May 2023. The qualifying criteria for this year’s Comrades Marathon remains unchanged, requiring completion of a standard 42.2km marathon in under 4 hours and 50 minutes, or a 56km ultra-marathon in under 6 hours and 45 minutes.”

The Substitution Process will run over the month of March and April 2023. More details will be revealed closer to the time.

James also confirmed that prize money for the 2023 Comrades Marathon has been increased by 15% across the board, meaning that the winner in both the Men’s and Women’s races will win a cool R300,000 with a total prize purse of over R2-million, which includes a cash payment of R300,000 should the Winners break the Best Time previously recorded for the Down Run in both the Men’s and Women’s races.

Since inception, the Comrades Amabeadibeadi charity drive has raised more than R66-million for the CMA’s official charities. Our selected charities for 2023 are Childhood Cancer Foundation SA (CHOC), Community Chests of Pietermaritzburg & Durban, Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust, Rise Against Hunger and WildTrust.

Ngcobo has called on all runners to support the incredible work of the CMA in raising funds for charity, saying, “Every day, in one small way, we can each contribute to the welfare and well-being of those who need our compassion and generosity. We call on all aspirant 2023 entrants to select the Official Comrades Charity closest to their heart and dedicate their run to this special cause. One of the CMA’s focus areas is to benefit the communities in which we operate and to add value to our chosen sport of road running.”

The CMA also presented the Comrades Winners Jacket to reigning Comrades Champ, Tete Morena Dijana. Ngcobo said, “We are very proud to be able to present this coveted token of victory to our humble and highly deserving 2022 Comrades Marathon Men’s Winner. Mr Dijana exhibits the very noble traits associated with this great race and he cannot be more deserving of this esteemed Winners Jacket.”

Entries are now open! To enter the 2023 Comrades Marathon, please click through to www.comrades.com

LESSONS FROM THE RAMAYANA FOR DAILY LIFE UNITY IN DIVERSITY

Unity in diversity is the biggest Ramayana lesson when Prabhu Shri Ram was marching on Lanka, then all kinds of people were in his army. Everyone was present, from humans to animals and birds. During the war everyone supported Prabhu Shri Ram. Apart from this, King Dasharatha had four sons and all of them had different characters but still had solidarity and this is what helps every family to get out of times of grief.

There was love in all the brothers of Prabhu Shri Ram. There was not even a little room for greed, anger or betrayal in such love. Laxman continued to live in exile with his elder brother Prabhu Shri Ram for 14 years. On the other hand, Bharat turned down the chance to sit on the throne for his elder brother. These lessons of brotherly love inspire us to value relationships rather than greed and worldly pleasures.

3 Ingredient COOKIES

INGREDIENTS

* 1/4 cup (56 g) salted butter softened

* 1/4 cup (59 ml) full fat sweetened condensed milk

* 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp (105 g) Maizena (Corn Starch)

Method

* Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

* In a large mixing bowl, mix together softened butter and condensed milk until butter is completely incorporated and your mixture is smooth.

* Add in 3/4 cup of Maizena (reserving the last 2 tbsp). Mix in the Maizena until a soft dough forms. If your dough is too sticky.

* Add in 1 tbsp of Maizena and stir only until the Maizena (Corn Starch) is incorporated. If the dough is still too sticky, add in the remaining Maizena . Your dough should be soft but not too sticky to work with. If it's still too sticky, you can add more Maizena until it's no longer sticky but the more you add, the more powdery and crumbly your cookies will taste.

* Measure out 1/2 tbsp of dough and roll into a ball between the palm of your hands. Place onto prepared cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining dough, spacing cookies at least one inch apart. Press down very lightly on each dough ball with the palm of your hand, so that it forms a thick round disk. Your disks should be quite thick because the cookies spread during baking.

* Bake cookies for about 13-15 minutes or until the edges turn lightly brown. Let cookies cool before serving. If desired, you can dust the tops with powdered sugar.

SPIRITUAL SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION

SIN AND SALVATION

Keynote Scripture: “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age’” (Matthew 28:18 20, ESV).

On the “Temple of Apollo” in Greece, an inscription summed up the wisdom of that day ”Know Thyself.” Those two words embodied the deeply held conviction that “the chief study of mankind is man;” that our wisdom consists in the accuracy and depth of self knowledge. On one level Christianity has no quarrel with that analysis, so long as it corresponds with a ‘personal knowledge of God,’ and our intrinsic need for salvation. What Christianity does deny is that we can know ourselves apart from God though it is true that we can know much about man, we cannot know man as he is in himself apart from God’s revelation.

According to the book of Genesis, God placed man in the Garden of Eden to be His vice regents on earth. He gave them maximum freedom, authority, and dominion over all the earth (Gen 1:28). There were no apparent restrictions on how they were to do it, except one they were not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen 2:17). The fruit was an tangible symbol of the fact that the man and woman were God’s creatures they were not God as such, they were responsible to Him: “ for in the day that you eat of it you shall die” (Gen 2: 16 17).

A contradiction of the veracity of God’s Word is the issue in Satan’s temptation of Eve ”you shall not die” (Gen 3: 4 5). Here, then, is the first revelation of sin’s nature and of what is basically wrong with mankind. 1) Sin is unfaithfulness it is to doubt God’s goodness and truthfulness, leading inevitably to an act of outright rejection; 2) Sin is apostasy it is rebellion against that sublime nature and destiny God made for man; and 3) Sin is pride in the woman’s case, it was the conviction that she knew what was better for herself and her husband than God; incidentally, this was the original sin of Satan (Is 14:14). So man’s sinful nature is characterised by the fact that it is faithless, rebellious, and full of pride; sin is everything within our being that is contrary to the expressed will of God (Rom 3:20; 4:15; 7:7; James 4: 12, 17). The sinfulness of sin lies in the fact that it

is always “against God,” whatever the sin may be (Ps 51:4).

The question arise, “How bad is man? How bad is sin?” Some believe man is only “ slightly flawed,” that he is just “sick” observers differ over how sick he is: acutely, gravely, critically, or mortally. The Bible says man is “ dead in your transgression and sin” (Eph 2:1), that he is “ totally flawed,” Furthermore, the tragedy of human existence is overwhelmingly visible to anyone who will honestly view the mounting starvation, suffering, hatred, selfishness, and indifference on our planet. The FALL OF MAN affected every part of man his spirit died, for his fellowship with God was broken … his soul began to die, for he began to lie and cheat and kill … his body eventually died, for God had said, “You are dust, and to dust you shall return” (Gen 3:19).

So man is now alienated from God...that “ is the most dreadful of all sin’s consequences.” The threefold result of man’s alienation is expanded upon by the apostle Paul in Romans 3: 10 12, 1)“No one is righteous, not one;” that is the essence of the moral side of every man. 2) “ No one understands;” sin has also polluted our intellect and our spiritual understanding. 3) “No one seeks for God;” this is the area of our will we have no desire to come to God; instead we make gods of our own making, in the hope that they will fill the spiritual vacuum in our lives. As Luther says, “We are wholly given over to sin” we are enslaved to sin (Rom 6:6, 17, 20); therefore, the only proper thing for us to do is to humbly acknowledge our sin, repent of such sin and call upon the eternal and Almighty God for His mercy and grace.

What does “sin really look like in the heart of man?” According to Scripture, man is totally corrupt, and has placed his own interests above all other interests; hence, man is fully “ self centered.” His entire life is totally oriented towards ‘himself’ man loves himself; as such, God commands him to “ love others!” (Matt 22:39). The sum of all the commandments is “ love” thus sin in its nature is egotistical and selfish; self is put in the place of God. Paul writes, “Don’t merely look out after your own personal interests, but also look after the interests of others” (Phil 2:4).

Humanity needs to be willing to accept that at the core of man self destruction lies our ‘sinful nature’ that can and will be restored back to God the Father through the ‘gift’ of our salvation through Christ. There is no other way!

COMRADES CHARITIES HANDOVER

The Comrades Marathon is said to be embodied with the spirit of camaraderie, generosity and selflessness. This very trait is what inspires athletes every year to adopt a cause that is promoted by one of the official Comrades charities and assist in raising funds to further their goals.

Such is the generosity and compassion of our Comrades runners and supporters that over R4.1-million was raised for the Comrades Marathon Association’s (CMA) Official Amabeadibeadi Charities during this year’s race.

The Amabeadibeadi Charity Drive has been a force for change and fundraising through the Comrades Marathon’s various platforms. Since 1996, thanks to the kindness of a great many people in the Comrades world, more than R66-million has been raised for worthy causes.

The current six official Amabeadibeadi charities are the Durban & Pietermaritzburg Community Chests, Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC), Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust, Hospice Association of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Rise Against Hunger Africa and WildTrust.

These charities’ respective focus is on issues of community development, care for the aged, health and wellness, AIDS care and support, the environment and hunger alleviation.

In wrapping up the 2022 Comrades Marathon, the CMA hosted its Amabeadibeadi Charities Handover on Monday, 21 November 2022 at Comrades House

to officially hand over the funds raised to the respective charities.

A total amount of R4,101.277 was raised this year, with the breakdown as follows: Childhood Cancer Association of SA (CHOC): R1,567.171 Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust (HACT): R1,010.905 Community Chest: R644.426 WildTrust: R317.189 Rise Against Hunger (RAH): R311.443 Hospice Association of KZN: R250.142

The Top Charity Fundraisers were: Dean Wight (HACT): R461.742 Mike Sewell (CHOC): R295.311 Brendan De Jongh: R210.150

CMA Chairperson, Mqondisi Ngcobo said, “The CMA has come a long way since it set up the Amabeadibeadi Charity Drive 26 years ago. We realized back then that as the leading road race in the country and as South Africa’s most inclusive sporting event, we could do more to promote charitable work and charitable giving in our country. We are pleased to note that our Comrades runners have gotten behind this initiative from the beginning and have grown it into a real force for good. Long may we prioritize charitable giving and keep doing more for the benefit of all those who need it.”
