Essence of Islam
~ Irshad SoofiDo your Necessary (Farz) , Revere the only teacher, the Beloved Prophet by saluting him often, Serve humanity, behave with the highest morals, and read the Quran in Arabic to revive the soul and stabilize it. Stay away from quarrels. If our understanding of the Quran with the mind is making society around us and us, unhappy, then there is something wrong with our understanding of the Quran. Its recitation in Arabic should be with the intention of aligning us with love, happiness and goodwill for all. The Quran has explained its recitation in the13th Sura Ra’d (Thunder) Verse 28 as:
The Arabic term ‘Islam’ means to submit or to surrender and the root meaning, salima is to be whole and it’s a cognate of the Hebrew word shalom, which is related to the same idea. Shalom in Hebrew means wholeness. The idea of peace is a wholeness and the idea of being in a state of submission is being part of a whole.
Because what happens when we are out of sync? For instance, we feel pain and suffering in our body is when one part of our body is no longer working with the whole and so we experience pain and trouble. We also have the idea of conflict when one part is out of sync with the whole; or several parts within a whole are out of sync as well, just as you can have multiple illnesses in a body.

ATHLETES
FOOT
(TINEA CRURIS) WITH DR R. SINGH
Athlete's foot is a very common skin condition and many people will develop it at least once in their lives. It is more frequent among teenage and adult males, but may occur in women and in children under the age of 12. Athlete's foot can be easily treated, but may recur in susceptible individuals.
Athlete's foot, or tinea pedis, is a fungal infection, tiny plant-like "germs," that can grow and multiply on human skin, especially the feet. It grows best in a dark moist, and warm environment. A foot inside a shoe is the perfect place for the fungus. The same fungus may also cause "jock itch" in the groin.
WHY DOES ATHLETE'S FOOT DEVELOP?
Athlete's foot is contagious and may be caught by walking barefoot in the locker room. However, it is not known exactly who is at risk for getting athlete's foot. Sweaty feet, tight shoes/socks, not drying one's feet well after swimming, bathing, or exercising all contribute to the development of athlete's foot.
WHAT DOES ATHLETE'S FOOT LOOK LIKE?
Athlete's foot may not always have the same appearance. In some people, the skin between the toes (especially the last two toes) peels, cracks, and scales. There may be redness, scaling, and even dryness on the soles and along the sides of the feet. Athlete's foot may also produce itching and burning of the feet. A few individuals may develop a single small patch of intensely itchy blisters. These skin changes can also be caused by dermatitis and psoriasis.
Fungal infections of the toenails can also occur and be difficult to treat. Toenail infections cause scaling, crumbling, thickening, and even partial loss of the nails. These changes can also result from other conditions such as psoriasis, injury, and aging.
Because all rashes on the feet are not athlete's foot, using over-the-counter anti fungal preparations on a rash that is not athlete's foot may make your condition worse. You should see a dermatologist if over-thecounter medications do not clear the condition and

it becomes worse. Your dermatologist can correctly diagnose the condition and prescribe an effective medication. Untreated, athlete's foot can result in blisters and cracks that may lead to secondary bacterial infections.
HOW IS ATHLETE'S FOOT DIAGNOSED?
Your dermatologist will examine your feet thoroughly. This examination may include a scraping of the scaly area from the skin on your feet. The skin scales are then examined under a microscope to look for the tiny fungi or placed in a test tube to look for growth of the fungus.
HOW IS ATHLETE'S FOOT TREATED?
Once the fungus is diagnoses, treatment Can begin immediately. For simple cases, anti-fungal creams are effective and can relieve symptoms such as burning and itching fairly quickly. In most severe cases, or if your infection is resistant to usual treatment, anti fungal pills may be prescribed.
Toenail infections may be difficult to treat and require several months of prescribed, oral anti fungal pills. It is important to continue the use of your prescribed anti fungal creams and to take all the oral medications as indicated. While your skin may look better, the infection can remain active for some time and could get worse again if you stop your treatment before completion.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT ATHLETE'S FOOT? You can help prevent athlete's foot by following some simple rules:
• Wash your feet daily.
• Dry your feet thoroughly, especially between your toes, after bathing.
• Avoid tight footwear, especially in the summer. Sandals and "flip-flops" are the best warm weather footwear.
• Wear cotton or synthetic running socks which absorb sweat and change the socks daily or more frequently if they become damp.
• Dust an anti fungal powder on your feet and into your shoes.

WISDOM FROM The Ramayan
Ramayana, defines the code of conduct (Morality). The tale defines the ideal models of various relationships. Even today, kids are taught about this epic so that they can learn and inherit all the good lessons in life. However, with the rapid change of time, it has become a rare practice where you find a family reciting Ramayana to their kids.
The stories of Ramayana may sound dramatic to newest generations as they are more interested in practical life and technology but there are many things that we can learn from Ramayana for good.
The win of good over evil is a universal fate. A person should always have a noble heart and good values. That is how Lord Rama defeated the most knowledgeable person in history Ravana.
It is said that your company shapes you into a person you are. We have been told to keep good company since childhood and Ramayana too emphasize the relevance of good company.
Lord Rama treated everyone equally and that’s how he earned the love and respect among everyone. No matter if a person was younger or elder, poor or rich, he was the same person for everyone.
Remember, If we hold love higher above anything else in a relationship, the value and respect increases and your soul stays pure.

AMIDST THE CRISIS IN UKRAINE DOCTOR PERSEVERES & QUALIFIES
Ansuria MoodleyI was born in Pietermaritzburg and ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a doctor. I finished school, got into UCT and went on to study Medicine. They say life doesn't always work out the way you plan, and well, that's kinda been my experience. So in 2015, I dropped out of medical school , thinking I'd have to close that chapter for good. In the years between I attempted many things though I was never quite satisfied.
In 2019 an opportunity came my way to continue my studies in Medicine and it meant leaving South Africa to go to Ukraine. In 2020 I left to Dnipro, Ukraine. It was a complete culture shock as I had been told by others who'd been before.
I grew to love the place, language and culture and food. I have countless stories of days in the bustling city of Dnipro, snowy trips to the shop and hospitals, night market shopping in Summer and experiencing many Ukrainian festivals which are huge celebrations including markets, performances and carnivals.
On February 24th, when the war began, it was like the whole world came crashing down on me. My phone was blowing up with calls and messages from my loved ones trying to contact me, my neighbours were readying to go into the underground bomb shelter, and the outside was deathly quiet.
The first days of the war were really something to experience, and is definitely one for the books.
I left with 3 others and we really were lucky to have been able to be together all the way, and even as we crossed the border into the EU, into Slovakia.
With two failed attempts to get the train, we were becoming concerned about our chances of being able to leave the city.
We eventually got a train at 22.30 after waiting there from 7.00a.m! And that was just the beginning of the wait. The whole experience was really crazy but we managed to keep it together being in a group, and what really helped was that one of us speaks the language fluently.
After almost 25 hours of travel we reached a city very close to the border of Ukraine. Here we spent a night, most of it searching for accommodation as absolutely nothing was available. We moved on in the morning, and that journey lasted an entire day. We crossed the border into Slovakia at 8pm or so.
The first day after crossing over, everyone was fragile and it really took a good while to recover from it all. To be honest, I don't think one ever really fully gets over an experience like this.

SPIRITUAL SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION
written by Pastor Michael Gobel Associate Pastor of ‘The Campus Church’ Co-founder/CEO of Planting Hope Foundation NPCHOW TO FIND THE PLAN (WILL) OF GOD FOR MY LIFE?
Last week, I touched on the very important question we should all be asking ourselves, namely “What is God’s Plan for my Life?” In answering this question, I laid the foundation to a follow up question, namely, “How to find the Plan or Will of God for my Life?”
Both these questions relate to mainly two types of people those who have not yet come to know God and those who know Him but who still find themselves lost or in doubt as to ’how or where to find the plan or will of God for your life?’
Often we will assess people according to their outer appearances and judge their stability and success by the car they drive, the house they live in or the job they have. These are naturally the things that the world measures success by but in all honesty, do we really know whether a person is truly happy, content and at peace by simply looking at their outer appearances? Of course not!
The same applies to Christians who go to church on a Sunday, attend prayer meetings and religious conferences, but do those things necessarily reflect a person’s spiritual stability or maturity? Of course not! The truth of the matter is that if we have not fully surrendered our lives to God and are not walking by faith in accordance to His Will, then all these other things are merely superficial indicators. They do not reflect our connection with or to God in terms of us following His plan and purpose for our lives. We must be following and seeking God’s plan for our lives or else everything that we do in trying to please God is worthless and will not bear ‘good’ fruit. So, how do we find that plan, purpose and will of God for our lives? In order to answer this question, I need to go to God’s Word. For the answers to all our troubles, challenges and needs lies in the Word of God.
It does not lie in some 10 point motivational theory or philosophical concept. We need to go back to the beginning of Creation in order to find the true answer to how and what we need to be doing to find the plan and will of God for our lives. Humans are stewards of God’s creation and should therefore be using God’s gifts as He commands. God and man should be working together, for God put Adam into the garden to do His work in tilling the soil and caring for it. As vital as faith is, faith is dead without ‘good’ works (James 2:26), and no amount of prayer or Bible study
can take away the importance of physically and spiritually “working in obedience to God .” (1 Cor. 3:9). Physical and spiritual work isn't a curse; its an opportunity to cooperate with God and to be a faithful steward of His creation. We all have different abilities and opportunities, and we must discover what God wants us to do with our lives, ‘for the good of others and to the glory of God .’ God gave Adam duties and privileges in the garden, establishing the first covenant in Scripture. A covenant is a ‘binding arrangement’ between two or more parties that governs their relationship. A command is introduced at this point because ‘it is God who makes the terms of the agreement.’ God is the creator and man is the creature, a “royal tenant” in God’s wonderful world so God has the right to tell the man what he can and cannot do. God didn't ask for Adam’s advice; He simply gave Him His command. This is where the world gets it wrong. We have gone and put the proverbial cart before the horse, so to speak. We have allowed our own selfish desires, foolish opinions, thoughts and concepts to get in the way of God’s plan, purpose and will for our lives.
God established a single limitation on the “ privileges of stewardship” in the garden. Only one tree was declared off limits. That same limitation that applied to the first man and the first woman, applies to every descendent of Adam as well. The world seems to have forgotten that. The more we eat of the ‘fruit of knowledge of good and evil’ the more our hearts and minds will become corrupt by our sinful desires. The same divine Word that brought the Universe into being, also expressed God’s love and will to Adam and Evil and their descendants (Ps. 33:11), we cannot expect God’s blessing and favour when we are not prepared to walk in obedience to his commands.
Obedience to God’s Word would have kept Adam and Eve in the sphere of God’s fellowship and approval but their ’free will’ allowed them to chose death over life. All God’s commands are good commands and bring good things to those who obey them (Ps. 119:39; Prov. 6:20 23). “His commandments are not burdensome.” (1 John 5:3)
God wanted humans to love and obey Him freely and willingly, not because they were programmed like robots to obey. In one sense, God “took a risk” when He made Adam and Eve in His own image and gave them the privilege of choice but this is the way He ordained for them to learn about “freedom” and “obedience.” It’s one of the basic truths of life that obedience brings blessing and disobedience brings judgment and suffering.
