Essence of Islam

We know that the sunflower actually moves with the sun throughout the day, and you can see this in many flowers. If you study biology, photosynthesis is the secret of life and it’s when the rays of the sun enter into a living cell and from that this extraordinary event occurs. So the prayer is aligned with the sun. We pray at the first dawn and then when the sun moves across the meridian and then when the shadow reaches its length and then when the sun

goes down and then when the last light of the sun moves out of the sky. During those five times, prayers are synchronized with the movement of the sun. That is one of the most important means of synchronizing with the natural world, by actually partaking in probably the single most significant event in the solar system, at least for us on this earth. We are witnessing this extraordinary movement of the sun everyday.

IS BODY FAT TRANSFER RIGHT FOR ME?

Exercise and maintaining a normal weight are the best ways to improve your appearance, but aging and genetics may, over time, negate the positive effects of healthy living. For example, genetics may cause fat to be unevenly distributed. And, beginning in their mid-30s, people tend to start losing volume in specific body areas, including the face and hands. In these scenarios, fat transfers may help.

Body fat transfer candidates should be in good overall health, both physically and emotionally, and have realistic expectations about what the procedure can and can't do for them. If you are a smoker, you should stop for several weeks prior to and following your procedure as smoking can slow the healing process, increase your risk of complications and impact negatively on your final cosmetic result. You must also have adequate fat deposits for the graft. Discuss the specific fat transfer procedure that interests you — including its pros and cons — with a dermatological surgeon.

THE FAT TRANSFER PROCEDURE

Body fat transfers are performed by a registered dermatologist in his or her office, outpatient center or hospital. The procedure may take up to two hours and is often performed under "twilight sedation," which combines a number of medications that leave you sleepy and numb but awake. The procedure may also require general anesthesia, especially if it is being combined with other cosmetic surgeries.

The fat transfer procedure varies depending upon the technique used by the dermatologist and the area to be treated. The procedure can be described in three steps:

1. Antiseptic and a topical anaesthetic are applied to two areas: the location where the fat will be removed (donor site) and the treated area where the fat will be injected. The donor site is typically the abdomen or thighs.

2. The fat cells are harvested from the donor site through one of several types of liposuction.

3. The fat cells are processed and purified by the doctor before they are injected into the treated area. In some cases, the doctor will use a technique that spins the fat cells before they are injected beneath the skin. Other doctors strain the fat cells instead of spinning them. There are new devices that both purify and concentrate the fat for direct injection, without needing a separate step. Cytori’s Puregraft is an example of such technology.

It takes three to four days for the first tiny blood vessels (capillaries) to reach and supply the newly-transplanted fat cells with a blood supply. During this time, up to 60 percent of the transferred fat cells will die. For this reason, doctors will usually overfill the treated area. More than one treatment may be required to achieve the best results. Each time the procedure is repeated, more fat accumulates in the treated area. This tends to offer longer-lasting — even lifetime — results.

FAT TRANSFER RECOVERY

After the procedure, you will need someone to drive you home. You may also need someone to help you with daily

activities during your recovery from fat transfer surgery. Your doctor should provide you with specific post-op instructions including taking it easy for up to three weeks after the procedure. Within two to three days after the procedure, your doctor will remove your bandages and you will be able to shower again. The treated area may be red for the first 48 hours following your fat transfer. There is typically some swelling for several weeks; however, any bruising should subside within a few days. Scabs may also form at the injection site. Oral pain medications can help treat any discomfort. Your doctor will give you a prescription or discuss appropriate over-the-counter medications with you. Some OTC products, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and naproxen, may increase your risk of bleeding and should not be used unless your doctor advises otherwise. You should notice a marked improvement in your appearance after the procedure, although final results may not be evident for several months or more.

COMPLICATIONS AND RISKS OF BODY FAT TRANSFER

Complications are possible with any medical procedure, but complications from fat transfers are rare. The most common include bruising, swelling, redness, fatty bumps beneath the skin, uneven skin texture, infection, and an abscess, excessive bleeding, and scarring. If fat is injected into two or more areas, asymmetry may occur.

Treatment for complications can range from oral medications to surgery. You can reduce your overall risk of body fat transfer complications by following your doctor's instructions before and after the procedure.

Choosing a proper qualified dermatologist will go a long way toward maximizing your satisfaction with the cosmetic results of the fat transfer and protecting your health. Choose a derm - surgeon who has extensive, specific experience in all types of body fat transfer procedures, including the procedure that you are interested in.

BODY FAT TRANSFER COST

The fat transfer procedure includes three costs: the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia fee and facility fee. Factors that figure into the overall cost include the surgeon’s skill and training, the geographic location where you are having your surgery, and the technique used.

It is difficult to establish an average cost for the fat transfer procedure because every case is unique. Since body fat transfers may be performed during other procedures, anesthesia and facility fees may be combined with those procedures. The total fees for fat transfers can range upwards Between R32 000.00 and R35 000.00, depending on how many areas are treated and how much fat is harvested and injected. Be sure to get a comprehensive quote from your derm surgeon before scheduling your fat transfer surgery. The cost of body fat transfer is never covered by medical aid because it is generally considered to be a cosmetic procedure.

ROAD SAFETY FOR NEW AND OLD DRIVERS

A new driver, you might feel intimidated by all the dangers. The good news is that you can be an excellent driver by staying alert and cautious.

New drivers and experienced drivers, alike, should always behave as defensive drivers to keep everyone safe. One essential step of safe driving is to maintain a safe distance between your car and other vehicles so you have time to stop without crashing in case someone brakes quickly.

In order to drive on safer roads, you should avoid dangerous conditions like bad weather. Try to get your chores done ahead of storms so you don’t get stuck outside.

Car maintenance isn’t emphasized as much when lots of people are learning to drive, but you can’t have a safe trip if your vehicle has issues. Make sure you fill your tyres, change your oil, replace your windshield wipers, fix broken lights, and keep a close eye on anything else that could need maintenance.

It may not seem like a big deal to look away from the road to adjust the radio or pull up directions, but it only takes one second for an accident to happen.

Road safety for new drivers should never be ignored. Whether you’re abiding by the laws, it’s crucial to never do anything illegal. From speeding to driving without your lights on or forgetting to buckle your seatbelt, there are many things that could go wrong if these are not taken into account.

MORE THAN HALF OF #COMRADES2023 ENTRY CAP CLAIMED

More than half of the 20,000-entry cap for the 2023 Comrades Marathon has been claimed within the first week of the entry process.

Entries for the 96th Comrades Marathon to be held on 11 June 2023, opened with a bang last Tuesday, with athletes, both in South Africa and around the world, eager to get their entry in and secure their place on the start line of the world’s biggest, oldest and most famous ultramarathon.

Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Race Director, Rowyn James said, “We are pleased with the entry count which now stands at nearly 11,000. We have also introduced a new facet to the online entry system this year whereby an athlete can pay the entry fee off in two instalments if they so wish – 50% of the entry value on entering with the remaining 50% due by 28th February 2023.”

The entry period closes at 16h30 on 9 December 2022 or once the entry cap of 20,000 has been reached, whichever comes first.

Entry fees remain the same as that of the 2022 and are as follows:

Entry Type

Entry fee

South Africa 2023 Entrants R1 200 Rest of Africa 2023 Entrants R2 000

International 2023 Entrants R4 500

2020 International and ROA entrants who did not participate in the 2022 event will not be required to pay an entry fee. This will be the last year in which deferred entries can be utilized.

Deferred foreign entries may NOT be substituted out for the 2023 Comrades Marathon.

Entry fee is waived for holders of 25 or more Comrades medals.

Online entries can be done via the Comrades Marathon website: www.comrades.com;

The 96th Comrades Marathon will be a Down Run on Sunday, 11 June 2023, starting at the inland City of Pietermaritzburg at 05h30 and ending 12 hours later in the coastal City of Durban. Due to the ongoing roadworks, the distance will be approximately 90km. This will be the 48th Comrades Down Run.

yat — that which; tu— but; krtsna vat — as all in all; ekasmin — in one; karye — work; saktam — attached; ahaitukam — without cause; atattva-artha-vat — without knowledge of reality; alpam — very meager; ca — and; tat — that; tamasam — in the mode of darkness; udahrtam — is said to be.

Translation

And that knowledge by which one is attached to one kind of work as the all in all, without knowledge of the truth, and which is very meager, is said to be in the mode of darkness.

Purport

The “knowledge” of the common man is always in the mode of darkness or ignorance because every living entity in conditional life is born into the mode of ignorance. One who does not develop knowledge through the authorities or scriptural injunctions has knowledge that is limited to the body. He is not concerned about acting in terms of the directions of scripture. For him God is money, and knowledge means the satisfaction of bodily demands. Such knowledge has no connection with the Absolute Truth. It is more or less like the knowledge of the ordinary animals: the knowledge of eating, sleeping, defending and mating. Such knowledge is described here as the product of the mode of darkness. In other words, knowledge concerning the spirit soul beyond this body is called knowledge in the mode of goodness, knowledge producing many theories and doctrines by dint of mundane logic and mental speculation is the product of the mode of passion, and knowledge concerned only with keeping the body comfortable is said to be in the mode of ignorance.

SPIRITUAL SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF CHRISTMAS

Keynote Scripture: “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”— 1 John 5:20

When you take the religiosity out of Christmas, what are you left with? When you dim the glitter and the lights from the shop windows, what do you see? When we look at the significance of Christmas in terms of its biblical identity, purpose and principle, what does it signify to you and to me? The ‘significance of Christmas’ in the context of the Christian faith should always be based on ’Thanksgiving.’

It’s rather ironic that when we observe various religious or non religious festivals from around the world, you will notice that ’thanksgiving’ is a very important time especially in places like America. Yet, very few of those who celebrate this period, truly know or understand the meaning of thanksgiving or will want to even recognise and accept that this period is really in honour of God’s mercy and grace. Naturally, to the believer, its giving thanks for the supernatural and divine intervention of God in the birth of Jesus Christ. There is also a deeper meaning to that birth which places emphasis on the ‘act’ or demonstration of our thanksgiving or love for God for having sacrificed His one and only Son Jesus Christ. We forget sometimes that in order to receive, we need to give and in order to be loved, we need to love.

To benefit from the blessings of God we need to follow Him in all Truth. The Word of God says it so beautifully in Psalm 25:5 “Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.” We cannot show our thanksgiving to God for the things that He has done without first loving Him and showing our commitment and obedience towards Him.

There has to be that element of sacrifice, worship and praise! We cannot and should not simply make Christmas a ‘singular’ day of enjoyment and pleasure and then carry on with our lives as though nothing else matters. If we wish to honour God for the things He has done and is continuing to do in our lives then we need to be teaching our children the “true” importance of Christmas.

These days we see how the world has commercialized

Christmas to such a degree that we have lost the true meaning and purpose of Christmas. The shops, Malls and even our own homes are covered in Christmas decorations and we are too eager to receive our Christmas gifts from family and friends. How many of us will actually use this time to celebrate the gift and blessing that we have ‘to be alive’ blessings of good health, a good job, a home and food on the table.

How many of us will use this time to make peace with a family member or estranged neighbour. To ask for forgiveness from someone that we might have harmed or caused emotional, psychological or even physical pain towards. Or to simply bless someone not expecting anything in return but simply to do it out of the goodness of your heart. Giving thanks is a foundational response as a ‘child of God’ to the sacrificial giving that Christ made for all who would accept Him as their Lord and Saviour. When you grow in the knowledge of God and your focus is no longer on ‘yourself’ but on God, then you begin to understand the importance of what the Word says in Psalm 136:1 “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”

The significance of Christmas is LOVE. For it was out of the love (the heart) of God that mercy and grace was born. When you love God, your thanksgiving will come naturally and spontaneously because it will come in response to the goodness and grace of God which is stirred up in your heart, mind and spirit. God’s nature in us does not change based on our outward circumstances. The problem in the world today (and this applies to both believer and non believer) is that it is difficult to be thankful to God when we have placed more emphasis on ‘self’ instead of placing emphasis on God as our Provider.

If you find it difficult to see the significance of Christmas beyond the glitz and glamour of lights and presence then I encourage you to assess certain key areas of your belief in God. These were areas that I found rather helpful when I made the decisive decision to follow Christ.

1) Begin to fully trust God in all things. 2) Be fully yielded to God as Lord of your life. 3) Remove any pride and arrogance that you might have. 4) Be less anxious and fearful about everything in life. 5) Stop focusing on the negative elements of life. 6) Do not be jealous or envious of others. 7) Do not hold on to anger, hatred, bitterness and the unwillingness to forgive. 8) And finally, be thankful to God for all things big and small!

WEEKLY HOROSCOPE

1ST - 7TH DECEMBER 2022

Spreading the Light of the Vedas

For a full and detailed horoscope for 2022, email punditroshan@telkomsa.net

Libra

The Moon is in the hidden sector of your solar chart all day, dear Aries, and you are a little more retiring than usual. As the day advances, there is provocative energy with you. A tendency to say too much or speak/react too quickly comes from a Venus-Mars opposition across your communications sectors. Boundaries can be crossed and it can be a little difficult getting to a point of compromise, but it’s far from impossible.

Taurus

You seek satisfaction and comfort from your social life, dear Taurus. Emotional freedom to be yourself without obligations is a need now with the Moon in your solar eleventh house all day. As the day advances, we approach a Venus-Mars opposition, and someone may not be budging, whether this is due to stubbornness or indecision.

Gemini

With the Moon at the top of your solar chart all day, dear Gemini, you’re a little more ambitious or formal today than usual. A VenusMars opposition is upcoming, and as the day advances, it can stir some tension. You don’t seem to be on the same page as someone, or you are, but the timing is completely off.

Cancer

With the Moon in your adventure sector all day, you crave the sense that you’re growing, learning, and improving, dear Cancer. Focusing on past actions can get you into a bit of a jam as the day advances, and you could be facing stubbornness in others. A Venus-Mars opposition stirs restlessness, and yet you may lack energy to do something about it.

Leo

With the Moon in your solar eighth house all day, dear Leo, you pay more attention to your intuition. You can quickly cut through to motivations. It can be difficult getting on the same page with others as the day advances. The eventual result of conflicts can be exciting and stimulating, but possibly less than satisfying in the moment. Rhythms in love and patterns in relating can be off and on, leaving it difficult to find satisfaction.

Virgo

The Moon spends all day in your partnership sector, dear Virgo, and your social instincts are strong. You’ve been making a lot of the decisions, and you may now crave the input of someone you trust. However, there can be off-timing and impatience in your relationships as the day advances and Venus heads into opposition with retrograde Mars. The social side of business or work, especially, can be complicated.

For an in depth Astrological report, owner and founder of Astroworld, Dr Roshan Singh can be contacted on Cell: 071 630 0834 | E-mail: punditroshans@gmail.com

The Moon spends the day in your sector of work, habits, and routines, dear Libra, and you’re mainly focused on taking care of details and organizing some area of your life. As the day advances, it’s easy to become aggravated if others aren’t moving at your speed, making it best if you can set your own pace. Wants and needs can seem like the same thing.

Scorpio

The Moon spends the day in your romance and entertainment sector, dear Scorpio, and you seek fun and unique ways to express yourself. As the day advances, you may discover that something you haven’t done in the past is now coming back to your attention. A missed opportunity may be frustrating, but it can also steer you on a course towards better managing your resources.

Sagittarius

You have a stronger than usual need for familiar situations and environments today, dear Sagittarius, with the Moon in your home and family sector all day. There is quite a bit of attention directed towards you, but you can be rather sensitive, and something may be missing the mark as the day advances. You seeking peace and balance, but you feel thrown off by things left up in the air.

Capricorn

Your personal affairs are emphasized today with the Moon in your solar third house, dear Capricorn. Your curiosity is strong. You’re likely to be in a busy frame of mind. There can be some tensions as the day advances and Venus heads into opposition with retrograde Mars. Someone may take issue with you if you’ve been on the fence about a topic or if you’ve been stalling.

Aquarius

The Moon in your solar second house encourages you to learn more about your needs and get to know yourself better, dear Aquarius. A Venus-Mars opposition stirs passions strongly as the day advances. Inner frustrations can also emerge if current relationships are not satisfying your deeper needs or if you’re not able to get on the same page with the one you want.

Pisces

The Moon in your sign today can be lively, personal, direct, and spontaneous, dear Pisces. It’s a time to get in touch with some of the needs and desires you’ve brushed off recently. There can be impatient or immature reactions to delays as the day advances with Venus heading into opposition with retrograde Mars. Buried matter can emerge and leave you feeling resentful of others, or desirous of something you can’t have.

Education is the key to success…..

Community Chest is therefore humbled to nourish and educate thousands of deserving children attending ECDs (Early Childhood Development Centres) located within impoverish communities in and around Pietermaritzburg Community Chest is most grateful to every donor who have this far supported the School Readiness Gift Pack Project. Thank you for adopting a child / children and ensuring that your gift packs for the child include items that is most needed. Special thanks to those who have adopted the children attending Grade 1 in 2023.

It was so amazing to witness each child smiling with joy as Community Chests’ Santa took on the cheerful task to start his distribution in the last week of November. We value the partnership made with each donor and look forward to their ongoing support in our projects ahead.

If you wish to adopt a child, please email sma@communitychest.org.za or chestpro@communitychest.org.za. Kindly contact 072 791 0311 and make your pledge today.
