Harmony of Islam ~ Irshad Soofi

Everyone claims according to their translation that only they are Muslim. What does the Quran say here ‘All creation is Muslim in the Samawaat (spiritual strata of an ever expanding Universe) and on Earth. For every Atom follows the Will of God. The Sun, Trees, Moon, Cosmos is in perfect harmony. Human beings, because we are given free will, we have this ability to be outside of that state. Images emerge daily of people #killing people, putting dynamite onto people and blowing them up and then laughing. You know, I do not care whether those people identify themselves as Muslims or not, as sociological category,

they are not in a state of submission to divine order. They are deeply sick human beings, and part of the problem and one of the real barriers for people to understand Islam or to have any attraction to it is that the Muslims themselves become the greatest barrier between Islam and the people. In a sense, Islam with respect to the human experience should be eliminating or removing those barriers that prevent us from harmonizing with the divine will, the cosmic order that exists within the human experience.

CELEBRATING BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS WEEK 1 - 7 AUGUST To promote and support breastfeeding, Midlands Medical Centre Private hospital hosted a free educational and interactive Breastfeeding workshop for breastfeeding mothers and their supportive family members. This year the theme was centered around ensuring a warm chain of support for breastfeeding. According to the World Health Organisation, mothers should be supported to initiate breastfeeding as soon as possible after birth, within the first hour after delivery and should receive practical support to enable them to initiate and establish breastfeeding and manage common breastfeeding difficulties. With this in mind, our staff from the Maternity unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Baby Clinic; were present to support and educate mothers and strongly recommend breastfeeding as part of good nutrition for babies and toddlers. Laika Maharaj, Dietitian with special interest in paedatrics, provided free diet related advice, practical facts regarding nutrition and educational activities for all attendees. #WeAlwaysCare #MMC #children #makinganimpact #childdevelopment #caringforothers Tel: 033 341 5000 | info@midmedic.co.za | 162 Masukwana Street Pietermaritzburg

Ways To Feed Your Garden Soil Naturally Fortifying Your Garden Soil With Compost One way is to create a compost pile or bin in your backyard. You can do this by layering green and brown materials, such as grass clippings and leaves, with soil and manure. Incorporating Organic Matter Into Your Soil Organic matter is an important part of the soil, providing essential nutrients and improving soil drainage and water retention. You can add it to your soil by using a growth stimulant, such as manure or worm castings. Watering Your Garden Wisely This means avoiding over-watering, which can lead to problems such as root rot and fungal diseases. Instead, water deeply and less frequently to encourage deeper root growth. In addition, be sure to water in the morning so that the leaves have time to dry off before nightfall. The Pay-Off of a Healthy Soil If you want your garden to truly thrive, you need to pay attention to your soil. Nourish your garden soil with compost and other natural materials to create living soil that will in turn provide nutrients for your plants. A little extra care for your soil now will pay off in a big way come harvest time.

The Lesson of Tolerance Man cannot be enlightened through any organization, creed, dogma, priest or ritual, nor through any philosophical knowledge or psychological technique. He has to find it through understanding the contents of his own mind, through observation, not through intellectual analysis or introspective dissection. A tree will stand in the scorching sun to give shade to others. A tree will bear the freezing cold of the winter and give wood to create heat for all. A tree will silently even give up its life to give its body to build a house for others to stay comfortably. That is tolerance.

SPIRITUAL

TRANSFORMATION by Pastor Mike Gobel

Associate Pastor of ‘The Campus Church’

JESUS IS NOT ONLY ABLE BUT ALSO WILLING! When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” - Matthew 8:1-4

Think of the 4 or 5 most powerful people on the planet. These people have unparalleled authority. They have unmatched power and wealth to get things done. Who comes to mind? Is it maybe the richest man on Earth, Tesla CEO Elon Musk? Is it the American President Joe Biden? Or what about Russian President Vladimir Putin? All of these men are incredibly powerful and have unsurpassed authority. But here is the question: With such power, wealth and authority, can you picture any of them stooping down to the lowest of the low? Or reaching out to someone on the sidewalk with an incurable disease to offer a person assistance? This isn’t a dig at any of them but rather just an observation. We rarely think of the most powerful people as those who would be "willing" to stoop down to the lowest of low or someone to show empathy towards someone else in need. In this context, let's look at Matthew 8:1-4. Up to this point in Matthew, Jesus is already been revealed not merely a Man but as God in the flesh. In John 14:6-10 it reads, Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him"... Clearly from this interpretation Jesus doesn't just have 'natural' or 'human' abilities but He possesses supernatural and divine power and authority. He is above all authority and power on earth and in the heavenly realm.

In the context of what Jesus did in Matthew 8 with His power and authority over a leper we read in Leviticus 13, God tells Moses about what they should do with people with leprosy. God tells Moses that people with leprosy are "unclean." So what did that meant to them. Because they were “ceremonially unclean” under the Old Covenant, people with leprosy had to stay away from the “clean” people. God told Moses in Leviticus 13:45 that if people with leprosy went in public that they had to cry out “Unclean! Unclean!” to warn people to stay away. People who got it were socially judged, persecuted and even shamed. Yet under the 'New Covenant' in Christ we read in Matthew that Jesus, the Son of the Living God, was coming down the mountain to a man with leprosy. Jesus, approaches someone “unclean” who under the instruction of God told Moses would have had to declare himself as "unclean" and avoid all contact with those who were "clean," let alone the Messiah of this world.

I'm sure by now you can already see the almost "deliberate" contradiction between living a life under man's judgment of the law and living with the freedom and peace in your heart knowing that irrespective of our works, deeds, sinful nature and “uncleanliness,” Jesus Christ is “willing and able” to stop, reach out His hand to save you and me from our sinful scares of "leprosy." Maybe you are been held back in human bondage over past or present sin in your life and you feel like that leper that was too ashamed to approach Jesus. Maybe you feel burdened by your uncleanliness and the more you try to seek peace the more you are reminded of the depths of your depravity? Honestly speaking, there is no difference between that leper who was suffering from an debilitating disease and the “internal” sins we carry with us or commit on a daily basis as a result of our human weaknesses or shortcomings. No amount of “human” cleansing will wash away those scares, ultimately only ‘the blood of Christ’ can cleanse us.

SPIRITUAL

TRANSFORMATION by Pastor Mike Gobel

Associate Pastor of ‘The Campus Church’ The only difference between the disease of leprosy and our sin is that our sin don't necessarily leave "external" scares but they do leave “internal” scaring that is mostly unseen to the naked eye. These scares cause us to become “spiritual” lepers. We take on a lepers mentality. The truth is that we don’t deserve to be cleansed. We should be going around saying, “Unclean! Unclean!” But my dear friend, this is not what Jesus is proclaiming when we read and understand this passage of Scripture in Matthew 8. Did you notice that the word “clean” or “cleansed” was used three times in this short passage of Scripture? Knowing what the Father instructed Moses in the Book of Leviticus to do and knowing that this "leper" doesn’t deserve His response, let alone His empathy. Jesus didn't have to approach him. But, He does and He did! Look what the leper asks Jesus. “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” Do you notice what he’s saying? He calls Jesus “Lord.” This leper is recognizing that Jesus is not merely a man. He is more than just a man! But then he says something else. “Lord, I know you’re powerful enough to clean me but I’m not sure if you are "willing" to clean me. I know you’re able to do it but I’m not sure if you really want to come near someone as unclean as I am.” It’s easy to ‘think’ about God’s power and even His sovereignty at times but it’s often harder to ‘believe’ in His goodness, His compassion and His desire to help us. Don’t our cries often sound like this? And so the world and the devil will continue to remind you of these shameful leprosy scares, your sin and your mistakes that prevent us from reaching out to Jesus because of the shame and the guilt. This is the guilt that the devil uses to hold us back from reaching out to Jesus. But look what Jesus does? Look at verse 3. This is how awesome our Lord and Saviour is!! Jesus reaches out His hand and TOUCHES the leper! “Jesus! You’re not supposed to do that!” But, He does. And notice how Jesus responds. “I am willing; be clean.” Why didn’t Jesus just say, “Be clean”? Why did He have to also say that He is “willing?” Jesus wanted to grow this man’s faith. The man had

unbelief in Jesus’ ‘willingness’ - not in His ability but His willingness to stoop down to the lowest of low. He saw Jesus as Lord and someone that carried the power and authority of God but he doubted that Jesus would want to take His time with someone as small and unclean as a leper. So, what does Jesus do? Jesus not only touches the leper but also speaks to him. Jesus shows him that He is more than willing to stoop down lower than anyone could ever imagine. Jesus is like no one else my friend! Jesus is simultaneously the Sovereign and Almighty King and Ruler and also our compassionate Saviour. Jesus is the Divine Warrior who fights the strongest enemy and He is also the Prince of Peace who goes to the lowest of the low to reach out His hand and save you and me. Can you see how different and amazing Jesus is in the context of our Salvation. From a God that first needed to rule and reign with power and authority through laws and decrees, to the same God that now rules with compassion, mercy and grace. No one is like Him. When our hearts are filled with only love for Him that’s when our desire to abide by His laws and principles will automatically follow—not the other way round. We must respond in faith towards our allpowerful, all-compassionate King. We must trust that God is not only able but also willing to have mercy and grace for us irrespective of our sinful condition. The reason why this moment in history is recorded in Holy Scripture is that God wants you to trust that He is the most willing Person to cleanse you! Take all your sin and shame to Jesus. Take all of your failures and weaknesses to God. He deeply desires to cleanse you if you would only surrender your life to Him. Jesus came to die for you and for me. He did not come so we could live in bondage over our sinful nature. Jesus came to be declared “unclean” so that we might be able to cry out “Clean! Clean!” This is the awesomeness of His love, mercy and grace. If you’re a Christian, you stand in cleanliness because of the Cross. Not only that; you are also being practically cleansed as you walk in faith.

WEEKLY HOROSCOPE

11 – 17 AUGUST 2022 Spreading the Light of the Vedas Dr Roshan Singh

For a full and detailed horoscope for 2022, email punditroshan@telkomsa.net

Aries Transits are challenging you to break out of a rut or a pattern that’s been preventing you from growing and changing, dear Aries. However, watch for unnecessary conflicts today, and aim to be mindful. If you act out without self-awareness, you may be taking risks, overpaying, or jumping into (or out of) something too quickly. It’s also possible that uncertainty about your income or feeling of security can interfere with your desire to have fun. Taurus You could be feeling more rebellious, restless, and curious today and tomorrow, dear Taurus, as Uranus and the North Node, currently transiting your sign, clashes with the Sun. These influences stimulate a desire or need for something different, but it may not be clear where to direct your energies. Impulsiveness can be a problem, and others may not be as reliable as you’d like. Resist the urge to rebel or react abruptly, but do honor your need for a change so that you can gain some emotional refreshment. Gemini Transits today can generate some tension, dear Gemini. You can feel torn between playing things safe and making a change, or what you say could stir up some conflict or controversy. A part of you may want to break free from confining patterns and secrets, which can be at the root of impulsive communications now–it may be a way of getting something out of your system. Cancer There can be unpredictable energy or surprise elements to today and tomorrow, dear Cancer. You’re a little more inclined to act from a place of emotion than from a place of reason. In truth, something that you’ve been sitting on may need to come out, and this can be a good thing, but it may be better to tone things down or choose a better time to do so. You may be dealing with defensiveness with a friend or network, or you could feel limited or restricted by someone. Leo There may be an air of discontent today, dear Leo, but you can learn much about yourself. You may need to manage some unpredictability in your career or tension related to long-term goals. With the Sun in your sign under strain, there can be surprises related to career, rules, and responsibilities. If you’re frustrated about not having a clear goal or path, consider focusing on small jobs with clear goals until things make more sense. Virgo Your need for psychic space, time out, or some form of retreat often dominates these days with the Sun in your privacy sector, dear Virgo. The Sun under strain today and tomorrow can challenge your need to relax and unwind. Your desire to expand, grow, learn, and connect is powerful and stands in contrast to the quieter, healing activities you seek. In truth, there can be an inner conflict between seeking out new experiences and getting time to process recent ones. For an in depth Astrological report, owner and founder of Astroworld, Dr Roshan Singh can be contacted on Cell: 071 630 0834 | E-mail: punditroshans@gmail.com

Libra Today’s transits remind you of things in your life that need improvement, dear Libra. You might deal with conflicting feelings for a person or project. You can be touchy today in areas where you’ve felt confined or limited. Opening your mind to potential disruptions seems the best strategy now. Instead of rebelling against what feels like pressure to conform or to fit in, consider more constructive, moderate ways to reduce the tension or express your individuality. This way, you can make empowering choices and improvements. Scorpio With the Sun at the top of your solar chart these days, dear Scorpio, you might often prioritize your work and goals. Today and tomorrow, the Sun’s tense aspects pit your responsibilities against your need for companionship or a focus on relationships. It’s best to identify areas of your life that require a change or a new approach instead of falling back on the same behaviors that keep frustrating patterns alive. You won’t thrive if your actions are dictated by what someone else is or isn’t doing, especially if they don’t return the favor. Sagittarius Today’s transits can stir some discontent, dear Sagittarius, and at the heart of restlessness can be a need for a change of pace. Because you may not learn a better method if you stick too rigidly to a routine or plan, a change now can nudge you in a new direction. Aim to adapt and be as flexible as possible if there are new plans. Still, a lack of organization can get in the way of your broader goals, and you might resolve to be more prepared next time. Capricorn Transits today and tomorrow can stir some discontent, dear Capricorn, and you can feel torn or divided in spots. It’s best to be willing to let go of a pattern or habit holding you back so you can magnetize more positive energy into your life. With the Sun in your solar eighth house these days, you seek more from your activities and perhaps a little more from the people in your life. Another part of you is learning to loosen up and enjoy and express yourself more freely, and these two drives are more glaringly in conflict right now. Aquarius Changes in plans or schedules may temporarily throw you off balance today, dear Aquarius, but they can also lead to rewarding experiences. Taking steps to move out of your comfort zone is the path that empowers you, although it doesn’t always feel intuitive. You can feel resistant or in a place where you can’t see your need for small personal changes or a change of pace. Resolve to make your own choices rather than give in to rebellious or reactive moves. Pisces Others could be pushing your buttons, or situations seem to stir some discontent today, dear Pisces. A change of plans, unreliability, or a shift of interests can temporarily disrupt the flow. Aim to redirect yourself in the face of schedule changes or surprises since friction can motivate you to make changes that truly benefit you. It can be a real challenge to agree with others right now, as they can be very wrapped up in their own desire for freedom.

COMMUNITY CHEST MARKS 62 YEARS OF SERVICE AT ITS 2022 AGM

Donor representatives, invited guests, Members of the Community Chest Council and Staff were addressed by Chairperson, Mrs Primi Chetty (CEO – Shuter & Shooter), Mr Richard Rangiah (Executive Director, Community Chest) and Treasurer, Mr F J Riekert CA (SA) (Managing Director – Moore Midlands). All-in-all, the reports spoke of the challenging times faced by the Community Chest during the past year as our country still reeled under the Covid-19 pandemic, but thanks to the wise governance and careful management of the Organisation, the Community Chest did well to emerge from the pandemic on solid ground and strengthened to sustain itself for another year and beyond. On behalf of the Council, the Chairperson extended it gratitude to donors for their support, loyalty and interest in the work of Community Chest. A special word of appreciation was also extended to the Staff for their loyalty and sacrifices made in ensuring the survival of the Community Chest under difficult circumstances. Special mention was made of the Shuter-Craib Legacy which in the 2021/22 financial year fulfilled its final of five tranche donations towards securing the Community Chest’s long term sustainability through a total amount of R2 million rand. In keeping with tradition, the time of the AGM is when the Community Chest announces its annual winner of the John Hall Extra Mile Award. For 2021/22 the award goes to 96-year old Mrs Sarah Pennington in recognition for her exceptional philanthropy as well as loyal support to the Community Chest. The John Hall Extra Mile Award was instituted after Mr John Hall went the proverbial extra mile in 2013 by funding major renovations and refurbishing of the Community Chest Offices. The Community Chest also appreciates Golden Horse Casino for making this event a success. AGM guests were treated to a well set venue for the occasion together with the provision of light refreshments, all at a discounted rate. For more information on the work of the Community Chest and/or should you wish to partner with Community Chest, please contact Angie Narayanan on chestpro@communitychest.org.za or 0727910311 / 033 394 1031.
