ORA, A VOI PREPARARE IL DISCORSO FUNEBRE PER ME

Der italienische Sozialist Giacomo Matteotti wurde 1924 nach einer Rede im italienischen Parlament, die mit den Worten “Jetzt ist es an euch, eine Trauerrede für mich vorzubereiten” endete, ermordet. Zwei Jahre später wurde im Roten Wien ein neu errichteter Gemeindebau nach ihm benannt, um die internationale antifaschistische Solidarität zu feiern. Das gestickte Porträt auf Kaludjerovićs Print aus der Serie The Face of Facism konfrontiert uns nicht etwa mit dem Gesicht Matteottis, sondern mit dem seines Mörders, Amerigo Dumini. Die in kollektiver Arbeit mit Freund:innen des Künstlers entstandene Stickerei ist auf eine rote Leinwand montiert, auf der bei näherer Betrachtung Seiten aus der sozialistisch-proletarischen Presse der 1920er Jahre zu erkennen sind, die über die faschistische Gewalt berichten, sowie die Noten des Kampfliedes "Bella Ciao". Der Künstler lädt uns ein, über die Position des Subjekts innerhalb historischer Prozesse und unser eigenes Handeln und dessen Auswirkungen auf immer wiederkehrende Formen von Unterdrückung und Umbruch zu reflektieren.

In 1924, the Italian socialist Giacomo Matteotti was assassinated after he gave a speech in the Italian Parliament that ended with the words "Now it is up to you to prepare a funeral speech for me." Two years later, a newly built Gemeindebau was named after him in Red Vienna to celebrate international anti-fascist solidarity. The embroidered portrait on Kaludjerović's print from the series The Face of Facism confronts us, not with Matteotti's face, but with that of his murderer Amerigo Dumini. The embroidery, created in collaboration with friends of the artist, is mounted on a red canvas on which, on closer inspection, we can see pages from the socialist-proletarian press of the 1920s reporting on fascist violence, as well as the notes of the song "Bella Ciao". The artist invites us to reflect on the position of the subject within historical processes and our own actions and their impact on recurring forms of oppression and upheaval.
