ABOUT HOUSE OF CHALLENGING ORDERS

A condemned office building turned into the exhibition venue for the VIENNA ART WEEK 2022 and became a unique creative experimental space. On three floors and a total of 1,000 m2 , around 40 national and international artists and performers questioned existing orders, canons and systems and invited us to challenge our own preconceived opinions and concepts.

Due to the great visitor success, the exhibition at the House of CHALLENGING ORDERS was extended and attracted over 3,000 people.

Jedes Jahr steht das Festival unter einem Motto, welches Anregung für die Programmpartner:innen und inhaltliche Vorgabe für das Eigenprogramm der Kunstwoche ist.

In der aktuellen Weltenlage geraten bestehende Ordnungen und Systeme immer mehr ins Wanken. Angesichts der derzeitigen Entwicklungen sehen wir uns mit zunehmend größeren Herausforderungen konfrontiert.

Das innovative Potenzial der Kunst im Hinterfragen vorherrschender Strukturen und Denkmuster durch den Einsatz kreativer Strategien ist gerade in diesen Zeiten besonders wertvoll.

Mit dem Motto CHALLENGING ORDERS wollten wir bei der VIENNA ART WEEK 2022 den politischen, sozialen und kulturellen Status Quo aus unterschiedlichen künstlerischen Perspektiven beleuchten.

Every year, the festival has a theme, which serves as an inspiration for the program partners and also as a guideline for the content of VIENNA ART WEEK’s own program.

In the current global situation, orders and systems that were taken for granted are increasingly beginning to falter. In view of current developments, we are confronted with ever greater challenges.

The innovative potential of art in questioning prevailing structures and thought patterns by using creative strategies is particularly valuable in these times.

With the theme CHALLENGING ORDERS, VIENNA ART WEEK 2022 wanted to look at the political, social and cultural status quo from different artistic perspectives.
