Dear Fellow Members,
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who attended our recent Annual Meeting. Your participation–whether in person or through proxy–continues to be the backbone of our Club’s progress. The thoughtful questions raised during our discussions were a testament to the engaged and dedicated membership we are so fortunate to have. A special thank you to Paula Janssen for her detailed financial report and to Alex Giacco for his insightful recap of the 2024 year and Q1 2025 attrition, particularly as it relates to the ongoing Clubhouse project. Your efforts in keeping us well-informed are truly appreciated.
As we transition into the heart of summer, I am thrilled to welcome the eight new families participating in our Summer Program. It was a pleasure meeting most of them at last week’s Meet & Greet, and I encourage all of you to extend a warm Vicmead welcome when you see a new face. One of the qualities that makes our Club so special is the sense of community and familiarity we share, and I know these families will feel right at home.
For those interested in the latest updates on our construction efforts, I encourage you to read the article from the Construction Ad Hoc Committee on page 9. It provides a comprehensive overview of the progress we’ve made and outlines what’s ahead. In particular, I ask that you take note of the information regarding the minor subdivision submission. As discussed at the Annual Meeting, this submission is an important step in protecting the Club’s rights for future projects. However, I want to emphasize that this does not indicate additional plans are in motion or that any changes to the scope of our current project are underway.
That said, I do want to acknowledge a growing group of Padel enthusiasts within our membership. Their passion has led to field trips, presentations, and now discussions on funding a court for the Club. While we support their efforts, I want to be clear that this initiative is not part of the Clubhouse project scope, but rather a potential
supplement. As with past self-funded projects at the Club, the Board remains committed to ensuring that member-driven endeavors align with the Club’s broader vision, do not negatively impact the general membership experience, and are appropriately vetted with the support of the applicable committee and professional staff. We look forward to sharing more details in the future as the effort progresses.
Additionally, I encourage everyone to take part in the upcoming Vicmead Antique Roadshow on June 19th at 5:30 p.m. This complimentary event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the unique history of our Club and its members. We would love for you to bring your cherished artifacts–whether old photos, memorabilia, an old scorecard, or other special items that help tell the story of Vicmead. Your contributions will be documented and preserved as part of our ongoing archival initiative, ensuring that our legacy remains alive for generations to come. The more participation we receive, the richer our history becomes! I hope you’ll consider joining us—even if just to view the interesting pieces we have on display and enjoy a Swizzle with your fellow members. I hope to see many of you there and encourage you to stay for the BBQ afterward.
In the meantime, summer is in full swing—the outdoor tennis courts are ready, the golf course is thriving, and the pool is open for enjoyment. I look forward to seeing many of you at the next BBQ, at Bunker, or around the Club. Let’s make the most of this beautiful season together.
Warm regards,
David Solacoff, M.D. President

The Construction Ad Hoc Committee is hard at work advancing the exciting work on our beloved clubhouse. As we move forward, we remain committed to keeping membership informed on the progress and milestones achieved each month.
Over the past month, significant steps have been taken to ensure the success of this effort. A wetland survey has been completed, laying the groundwork for environmental considerations. Additionally, geotechnical work is well underway, with borings conducted at four locations around the front and sides of the building. Members may have noticed temporary site disruption—this work is essential to designing the building foundations.
In our search for the right interior design partner, four firms have submitted proposals and interviews are underway, each assessed against a detailed rubric considering their expertise, design philosophy, and ability to collaborate with architects and subconsultants. A decision is expected in the coming month to ensure a seamless integration of all aspects of the renovation.
At this year’s Annual Meeting, David Solacoff joined the committee in presenting major milestones, reaffirming our goal to break ground in Q1 2026. This timeline allows for the necessary construction drawings and related permitting to be completed. Preparations are also underway for
June 2025
a minor subdivision plan submission; a process members may recognize by the appearance of the well-known yellow sign on-site.
It is important to reiterate a significant point that was shared at the Annual Meeting. The scope of the project remains identical to that presented in January, however the minor subdivision plan will outline additional square footage on our campus. “Why would you do that?” While this work is neither scheduled for construction, funded, nor even being discussed by Club Leadership at this time, it represents the Club’s dedication to protecting membership rights in the future. By reserving the ability to use the current allowable square footage per the New Castle County Unified Development Code, we safeguard opportunities for future enhancements.
We are also in the process of conducting test fits for the kitchen to make sure that the heart of our project is at the forefront of the design. The architect, engineers, and a specialty kitchen consultant are ensuring we make use of every square foot so that our staff can operate with more ease and efficiency.
The committee appreciates the continued support of our membership and looks forward to sharing further updates as we make strides toward a clubhouse that serves our community for years to come.

Anthony Malizia Head Golf Professional
The start of the golf season is well underway! We hope you are finding time to visit often and bring your friends to enjoy this wonderful place.
Historically, the month of June yields the most monthly rounds played each year. While “busy” can be a relative term for Bidermann standards, it is important to remember the following:
• Singles and twosomes are prioritized each day during the first thirty minutes the course opens.
• The “go around” rule is a part of the Club’s golf culture. Singles, twosomes, and threesomes should always go around a foursome when waiting.
• Groups are expected to play 18-holes in four hours or less, or 9-holes in two hours or less.
When bringing guests please consider taking a caddie or forecaddie. It makes for an enjoyable and memorable experience. Caddie reservations can be made 48 hours in advance by contacting the Golf Shop.
The 54th playing of the H.F. du Pont Memorial Cup (sold out) is scheduled for June 5th – 7th. Please be mindful that the course will be closed during this time to accommodate the event.
The annual Ladies’ Member-Guest Tournament is scheduled for June 10th – 11th. Space is available and registration can be made by visiting the Club website. This fun event is a great opportunity to bring one or three guests for a memorable golf experience. The front nine will close at 4 p.m. on the 10th and the course will remain closed until 2 p.m. on the 11th.
As always, please check the Club website and Monday weekly golf email for all up-to-date information. We look forward to seeing you at the Club soon!
Kind Regards,
Anthony

This hike includes stream crossings, rock scrambles and loose terrain. This one will make you feel the burn and reward you with a beautiful view of the Susquehanna river. Traverse through a wildflower field into a pine forest, down through a rhododendron grove, into a glacial cut. Follow and cross the Kelly's run stream along the Conestoga trail before heading up to overlook the Susquehanna, above the Enola low grade railway.
