VICMEAD HUNT CLUB

President's Letter

August

Dear Fellow Members,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the height of summer at the Club. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the July 29th BBQ and Antique Roadshow Showcase. It was a joy to see so many fellow members interested in celebrating our Club’s rich history. A very special thank you goes to the members who generously shared their personal treasures from the Club’s past—your contributions brought our legacy to life in such a meaningful way.

We also owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our professional staff. July’s weather was extraordinary— heatwaves, downpours, and everything in between— but our team rose to the occasion. Not only did they ensure we could continue enjoying the Club’s amenities safely, but they also delivered a spectacular 121st Philadelphia Open at Bidermann. Their dedication and resilience are truly commendable. As a token of our appreciation, we will be hosting our annual Employee Appreciation Event this Sunday, August 3rd. To allow all staff members to participate, the Clubhouse, Pool, Halfway House, and Golf Operations will close at 4:00 p.m. The golf course will remain open for walking, and the fitness center and outdoor tennis courts will be available for those who wish to venture out.

In my capacity as President, I am honored to be an invited guest to many of the committee meetings the Club hosts monthly. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending one of the Membership Committee meetings and was struck by their commitment to the Club’s values, the integrity of the process, and governance. They thoughtfully addressed common questions and misconceptions about proposing new members and navigating Club policies. More importantly, they focused on how they could share this knowledge more broadly. The Committee will

begin featuring a monthly Bylaw or “Fun Fact” in the newsletter. I encourage you to check out the first installment on page 5.

As summer begins to wind down, I invite you to take full advantage of the exciting events and activities planned through the end of the season. This time of year is filled with fan favorites like the Closing Pool Party & Regatta, Pups in the Pool, final BBQs, and Bunkers. Let’s make the most of the remaining days of summer together. There’s still plenty of time to make memories with friends and family at the Club.

Warmly,

Mr. Michael & Mrs. Stephanie Rollins

Triumph at the 121st Philadelphia Open: Setting a New Standard at Bidermann

Overcoming

Weather Challenges Through Team Excellence, Volunteer Support, and Club Investments for an Unforgettable Championship

The 121st playing of the Philadelphia Open at Bidermann is in the books, and what an event it was!

In January, we set out to define our 2025 teamoriented goals, and number one on that list was to set a new standard for the Philadelphia Open. By all accounts, from participants, Golf Association of Philadelphia officials, spectators, and our volunteers, we were able to accomplish this and then some.

Faced with difficult weather patterns during the second half of June and the early part of July, our grounds maintenance team rose to the occasion to create a special experience for the championship.

Our tournament efforts were supported by several individuals and suppliers through relationships that have been forged for years. Our maintenance volunteer group included Agronomy Team members from Aronimink Golf Club, Gulph Mills, Hollywood Golf Club, Country Club of Scranton, Radley Run CC, and the Country Club of York. Their contributions allowed us to put forth memorable course conditions and experiences, pushing the limits of weather and time constraints.

The leadership of the assistant superintendents in our department went above and beyond to make this an extremely special experience. Jared Hafer's planning and execution of the tournament rounds speaks volumes to his strengths in organization and leadership. Mat Zimmerman's attention to detail in tournament support and planning made for a comfortable experience for our staff and volunteers given late nights and very early mornings. Other members of our leadership team, Robert Cruz, Keaton Flynn, Julio Figueroa, and Nick Ruggiero, did a masterful job of equipment setup, training, and execution.

I'd also like to thank our club leaders and members for embracing this tournament experience and continuing to support the day-to-day operations of the golf course. Without the recent investments in the golf course and maintenance facilities, such an esteemed championship would be difficult to mark as a resounding success.

Wednesday mornings are reserved for LGA events and female golf members. Course is closed until 11:00 a.m.

We hope you’re enjoying the great golf course conditions and long summer days.

The August heat and humidity can create the unexpected pop–up thunderstorm. A lightning strike within 10 miles of the Club will automatically trigger the lightning alarm indicating “cease play and seek shelter immediately”. A 30 minute timer to the “all clear” starts, but subsequent lightning strikes reset the timer to 30 minutes. Once the timer expires, the all clear alarm will sound reopening the golf facilities. Also, during the lightning delay two strobe lights will flash; one on top of the Golf Shop building and the other at the Halfway House. The strobe helps alert those entering the property that we are experiencing a lightning delay.

Additionally, to help assist with hydration need we’ve provided complimentary bottled water behind the #2/#10 teeing area. This will be offered through Labor Day weekend.

Regards,
