June 2024 Vicmead Hunt Club Newsletter

Page 1

Dear Fellow Members,

I hope you’ve all been enjoying the glorious weather we’ve seen recently and as we head into the summer season, there are so many wonderful things to look forward to at the Club. The fun began this holiday weekend when the Pool opened with the Oui Oui Pool Party. It was an evening filled with over 200 members and guests who enjoyed ice cold swizzles, whole roast duck on the spit, and connecting with one another.

The weekend continued with active racquets courts and golf course, people poolside and culminated with the final Tasting Market: Gypsy Bazar. The impressive spit was mastered again by Chef Nick Erb & Larry Dubin, serving delectable spring lamb that made the perfect bite to accompany the assorted salads, desserts, and live music. Thank you to the Culinary Team for their creativity and delicious offerings (pictures featured on pg. 15).

From Friday & Saturday Farmhouse Dinners to the Bunker and the always popular Tuesday & Thursday barbecues, there is great food all around us. The Meet also returns each Sunday (June- August) from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The casual format, similar to the Bidermann Bunker, makes for a casual, no reservations, Sunday dinner solution. Check out pg. 13 for the details on the Specialty Game Nights when the Clubhouse team will bring some healthy competition to The Meet.

With school winding down, Junior’s activities begin to ramp up. This month brings the return of Kiddie Camp (ages 4-6) and All Sports Camp (ages 7-12) on June 10th. Vicmead Juniors and friends (including grandkids) are welcome to participate and it’s not too late to join the fun! The Junior calendar is truly in full swing and I encourage you to check out not only camp offerings but the Jr. Tennis Academy (Monday – Friday), Jr. Pickleball Clinics (Sunday at 3:00 p.m.) and Jr. Friday Golf Clinics. Remember that golf clinics are open to all Juniors of both Social and Golf members. So if you are looking to fill a day or a week with activities and fun, be sure to check out the calendar.

I also encourage you to join me on June 4th for the New Member Meet & Greet, 5:30 p.m.– 6:30 p.m. This is the opportunity for us to provide a warm Vicmead welcome to the new members who joined us this past year and those beginning the Summer Program. The traditional Vicmead BBQ dinner will be available following the reception, so be sure to reserve!

I hope this summer season is spent making many memories at the Club with family and friends.

All the best,

Development Ad-Hoc Committee Update

June 2024

We are grateful for the enthusiastic involvement of so many members during this exciting phase of Vicmead’s next 100-year history.

Every member’s contributions, insights, and feedback are instrumental in helping to define the core characteristics that capture our club culture and interests, while striving to achieve, as one member so perfectly put it, “a better Vicmead.”  This past winter, our members joined Chef David for 13 behind-the-scenes kitchen tours. Many participants, initially unfamiliar with the intricacies of our food services operations, gained a comprehensive understanding of the essential role the kitchen renovation plays in supporting casual dining options, improved bar-service, and expanded food services offerings. Members dine differently today than they did fifteen years ago, and Vicmead’s future is dependent on remaining both relevant and aligned with member interests.

In February, a short questionnaire focused on the desired club experience was sent to the membership. Over 95 responses were received. Your thoughtful feedback offered invaluable insight into aspects of our club that we aspire to enhance. Many members also emphasized the importance of maintaining culture and specific elements of the current experience. These comments are equally important in helping us define what is critical to preserve.

On May 1, we welcomed the team from Mark P. Finlay Architects to begin the concept design process. The dialogue centered on improvements to the VHC Clubhouse, infrastructure, and the pool house/fitness facility. Your input and feedback helped to frame our

conversation with a clear focus on maintaining our culture and preserving the aesthetic appeal of our beloved Clubhouse. Mark and his team echoed the importance of appropriate scaling as they think through the concept design. Improving circulation, enhancing functionality, and ensuring all areas within the Clubhouse are fully utilized are key priorities for the concept design.

“The key to a successful design for Vicmead will be to maintain the scale of the small, intimate spaces of the original building.”

Our next milestone will be the review of initial concept drawings in mid-late summer. As this is an iterative process until a final design is reached, we anticipate the design, budget, and schedule will be ready to present to the Board, and subsequently the membership, by late fall. In the meantime, we will continue to call upon committees and individual members for their expertise, consideration, and input on various aspects of the project.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. As always, please reach out to the committee if you have any questions, input, or concerns at strategicplan@vicmead.com.

Below are a few of the member comments responding to the question “I wish we had…”:

“An old-school bar area where you can sit at the bar and have a drink by the fire.”

“A casual, welcoming grille room that is open every day and night, an easy place where you get a beer a quick bite to eat…”

“A first-class fitness facility.”

“An outdoor fire pit area where members can hang and grab drinks….”

“A space for the kids to hang out.”
