EXPERIENCES VERSUS PARTY

Forget the Cake—Should Your Kid’s Birthday Blow Their Mind Instead?

Las Vegas is a playground for unforgettable childhood memories. But when it comes to birthdays, parents face a modern dilemma: Do we throw a traditional party or ditch the pinata for an epic experience? Both options have game-changing perks—and hidden pitfalls. Let’s break it down.

Social Supercharge: Parties let kids practice sharing, teamwork, and being the “star” of their own celebration.

Flexible Budgets: Potluck picnics at Sunset Park cost pennies compared to lux buyouts.

Instant Gratification: Cake, games, and presents deliver immediate joy no waiting for a booked activity

S P A R T Y P R O S

Planning Pandemonium: From meltdowns to missed RSVPs, parties are logistical nightmares.

Post-Party Hangover: Cleaning up glitter and leftover pizza is nobody’s idea of fun.

Generic Vibes: Without creativity, parties blur together (“Wait, was this the year with the magician?”)

www.TwoBalloonsLV.com

Memories Over Mess: Unlike a party’s fleeting chaos, experiences— like a day at Meow Wolf or a horseback ride at Red Rock Canyon —create lasting stories. Kids recall adventures long after balloons deflate.

Family Bonding: Skipping the crowd means deeper connections. One mom swapped parties for Dig This Las Vegas, and her kids still rave about it months later.

No Clutter, Just Joy: Avoid toy mountains. Instead, gift a pottery class or Cirque du Soleil tickets unique and clutter-free.

E X P E R I E N C E C O N S E X P E R I E N C E P R O S

Budget Roulette: While Groupon deals exist, sky-high Vegas attractions can cost more than a backyard bash.

One-and-Done Risk: Bad weather or a meltdown can derail the day no do-overs like a rescheduled party.

FOMO for Friends: Kids might miss sharing the fun with classmates, especially if the experience is family-only.

There’s no wrong answer just what fits your kid’s personality (and your sanity). Vegas serves up endless ways to celebrate, whether it’s a wild Shark Reef encounter or a classic bounce-house blowout. The real win? Watching their face light up, no matter the route you choose.

From One Parent to Another: Real Talk About Raising a Kidpreneur

“We started small with a lemonade stand, and that turned into budgeting, marketing, and confidence-building I didn’t expect this to teach me so much too!”

Carlos R., dad of a 12-year-old candle maker

“Honestly, just show up for them Set aside time each week to prep together it becomes a bonding ritual”

Danielle T., mom of two young artists

“Let them make mistakes My daughter once brought the wrong pricing signs to a market She was upset but she quickly learned how to pivot and improvise. That lesson? Priceless.”

Monica J., mom of a 9-year-old slime entrepreneur

“We made a deal early on: this is their business, but I’m their business mentor, not their manager. That helped set boundaries while still being supportive”

James L., dad of a 13-year-old graphic designer

“The time commitment can be a lot, but it’s so worth it. I carve out Saturday mornings for her prep time like I would for a soccer game”

Elena S., mom of a 7-year-old baker

“Start with what your kid loves, not what’s trendy. Passion is what keeps them going when sales are slow or the glitter spills everywhere”

Tina K., mom of a 10-year-old who makes custom art kits

“Don’t worry about being perfect Your kid doesn’t need you to be a business expert They just need to know you believe in them”

Robyn P., mom of a 14-year-old who sells crochet critters

“I’d worry less about making everything look polished Customers love seeing the kid behind the product it’s part of the charm.”

Lisa W., mom of an 11-year-old comic book creator

Becoming Me Again: Rozalyn’s Journey Through Motherhood and Back to Herself

Motherhood has a way of swallowing you whole. It’s a sacred role but one that often eclipses everything else you once were.

For Rozalyn, motherhood began the moment she saw a positive pregnancy test. From that day forward, she wasn’t just living for herself anymore. “It was no longer about me,” she says. “What I ate, what I thought, how I moved through the world it all had to be in service of this new life growing inside me ”

And for years, that’s exactly what she did.

So much of Rozalyn’s journey speaks to what we, as women, quietly carry. I found myself nodding along as I listened sometimes even having to stop myself from jumping in with a story of my own. I could relate to the narrative of working multiple jobs, showing up for every practice and parent-teacher meeting, and finding creative ways to care for myself when money is tight. Her identity didn’t just include motherhood it became motherhood. Not a piece of her, but the whole

Reflection: At what point did we begin to accept that self-sacrifice was synonymous with being a “good mother”? What parts of ourselves have we left behind in the name of parenting?

As her daughter is growing up and becoming more independent, Rozalyn is faced with a question she hasn’t had time to think about in years: Who am I now?

It’s a strange shift the moment you realize your baby is becoming their own person, and the role you’ve held for so long starts to shift too. For Rozalyn, it felt like starting over. “I froze in time when I became a mom. And now that she’s grown, it’s like I’m just figuring out what I like again, what I want to wear, how I want to feel when I walk into a room ”

So many of us arrive at this moment, unsure how to reconnect with the woman behind the title 'mom' Many of us were never taught how to hold onto ourselves while mothering. We were only taught how to pour out, how to make everyone else’s needs a priority.

Reflection: What if we’ve misunderstood the assignment? What if motherhood isn’t about losing ourselves, but expanding ourselves?

About the Author

Antoinnette Majors is the owner of

Mindframe, a prenatal mindset coaching practice that helps expecting mothers access their innate power and intuition so that they are empowered to create the birthing experience they desire.

Momma

Rozalyn speaks candidly about guilt the kind that creeps in when you finally begin to pursue your dreams, and your child still needs you in ways you can’t fully meet. “My job started requiring me to travel. It was a dream come true, but I knew my daughter was hurting. I was showing up in rooms I had prayed to be in, but wondering if I was abandoning her in the process.”

She didn’t ignore it. She addressed it with openness, with humility, with a willingness to repair. “I told her: I’m working hard so you have what you need. I may not always get it right, but I’ll always come back and try to make it right.”

This is what the evolved model of motherhood looks like One where communication and humanity exist alongside love Where mothers are allowed to be whole people, not just caretakers

Rozalyn’s relationship with her body mirrors this same journey. “For years, I hid my stretch marks. I didn’t want to be seen. But now, I see my body as proof I brought life into this world. That deserves honor, not hiding.”

Her closet tells a story too. A closet once full of leggings and oversized sweatshirts is now full of pieces that reflect her. “My daughter borrows my clothes now. That says a lot. I’m finally dressing like someone I recognize again.”

Rozalyn’s evolution was her own, but it took community to sustain it spaces that could hold her fully, without asking her to shrink In the early days, it looked like friends who showed up when she had nothing Later, it became sisterhoods built on shared purpose women who understood the weight of motherhood and ambition coexisting.

Reflection: What kind of community surrounds you? One that reminds you of who you are or one that asks you to forget?

What surprised Rozalyn most over the years wasn’t how much she gave but how much she had to give. She walked away from a long-term

relationship that no longer served her, even when fear said she couldn’t do it alone. “But I did. I am. And I’m doing it with grace.”

Now, with her daughter stepping into adulthood, Rozalyn is rediscovering herself in ways that once felt impossible. She’s reclaiming her sensuality. Making space for pleasure, for softness, for self.

Reflection: What if your wholeness is the greatest gift you can give your children? What if being fully yourself sensual, ambitious, healed isn’t selfish, but sacred?

Motherhood doesn’t end when our children turn 18 It doesn’t expire when they can feed themselves or drive to school It evolves It asks new things of us And we, too, are allowed to evolve alongside it

Rozalyn is still becoming. And she’s not done.
And maybe, neither are you.

More Than Just a Game

How Raider Dad Helps Foster Families Build Lasting Bonds

For many foster families, creating moments of connection can be a challenge. Schedules are packed, transitions are common, and opportunities for shared joy can be hard to come by.

That’s where Vegas Raider Dad comes in offering more than just a ticket to a game. It’s offering a chance to build memories, strengthen bonds, and remind foster children that they are part of something bigger.

Founded in 2022 by Josh Caminite, Raider Dad is a nonprofit dedicated to gifting experiences at professional sporting events to children and their parents or caregivers. Foster families have become a key part of that mission.

“Our goal is to create experiences that inspire and motivate kids to reach their full potential,” Caminite said. “For foster families, it’s about bringing a sense of normalcy and joy something every child deserves.”

Caminite’s inspiration came from recognizing the power of shared moments “Sports bring people together For foster children and their caregivers, attending a game can be an important way to build a stronger relationship It’s about bonding over something fun, exciting, and unforgettable.”

The organization partners with local foster care agencies to identify children and families who could benefit most. Whether it's cheering in the stands at Allegiant Stadium or learning a new skill at an upcoming basketball camp, these experiences are carefully chosen to help kids feel included and empowered.

“Often, foster kids express feeling different from their peers,” Caminite explains. “They might not always have the chance to do things other kids take for granted. Raider Dad is one way we can help bridge that gap and give them something to smile about.”

One special memory for the Raider Dad team involved a single father who had recently adopted three brothers. “Usually, we bring one child and their guardian, but in this case, we wanted the entire family to share the experience together,” Caminite says “That moment seeing them enjoy the game, united as a new family perfectly captured what Raider Dad is all about ”

As Foster Care Month shines a light on the needs and resilience of these families, programs like Raider Dad offer more than entertainment. They offer hope, connection, and the reminder that every child deserves moments of joy.

How A Greater Hope is Changing the Foster Care Narrative

During Foster Care Awareness Month, we lift the voices of those who live and breathe this work every day. At A Greater Hope, a nonprofit community based organization with an emphasis on services and foster care,

healing doesn’t happen by accident it happens with intention, heart, and community.

Breaking the Myths

“One major misconception is that children in foster care are ‘troubled’ or ‘bad kids,’” says Tamiko Henderson, Program Manager at A Greater Hope. “The truth is, they're navigating incredibly complex situations that are out of their control often involving trauma, loss, and instability.”

And the misunderstanding doesn’t stop with the kids. Many people still believe foster parents must fit a certain mold. “Another misconception is that foster parents have to be perfect or have a traditional family structure. In reality, what's needed most is a safe, loving, and supportive environment whatever that may look like,” Henderson said.

Jessi Maurice, the organization’s Development Director, echoes the need foracommunityshift inthinking.

“I believe that the general public doesn't realize that it's all our responsibility to care for this population,” Maurice said. “These children will one day become our neighbors, our coworkers, and our communitymembers.”

ofHope

The Emotional Journey

Fostering is far from transactional it’s deeply personal.

“For the child, it can be confusing and overwhelming, but with time and the right support, it can also bring healing, growth, and a renewed sense of trust,” Henderson said. “For the families who take them in, it's equally powerful it brings love, purpose, and often a new perspective on resilience.”

“There can be the deep sadness of understanding the circumstances that led a child to be placed in foster care, to the great joy of seeing a child meet their goals and make significant progress,” Maurice said. “As humans, we’re all emotional beings foster care is no exception.”

Stories That Inspire

For both Henderson and Maurice, it’s the transformations they witness that keep them going. Henderson recalls one girl who arrived in care withdrawn and barely speaking.

“Over time, through consistent support and the patience of a foster mom who just wouldn't give up on her, she began to open up,” she said. “Now, she's in college studying psychology with the goal of helping other kids like her.”

Maurice shares a powerful reunification story.

“We had two children return to their biological mother, who continued working with us after reunification,” she said. “She and the foster parents collaborated to create consistency in both homes same rules, same expectations to make the transition as smooth as possible. She’s now in family therapy, excited and ready to learn. Her growth gives us hope.”

A Call to Action

The team at A Greater Hope wants the community to know that anyone can make a difference.

“Each person can get involved in our mission whether by donating, volunteering, supporting a foster family, or fostering themselves,” Maurice said.

Because in the end, it’s about more than placements and paperwork it’s about planting seeds of hope and watching them bloom in the most unexpected ways.

Foster Facts

In Southern Nevada, approximately 3,400 children are in foster care in Clark County on any given day But here’s the cool part: More than 50% are reunited with their biological families. Many former foster kids are more likely to become advocates and go on to become social workers, counselors, and lawyers because they know the system and want to change it.

FOSTER IN FAITH

Creating Community and Calling in the Foster Care Journey

Foster in Faith, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit founded by Gina Costa, is on a mission to bring foster care support straight to the heart of where it thrives best

churches. A former special education teacher and foster mom-turnedadoptive parent, she felt a deep calling from childhood to care for vulnerable children

“We are the bridge,” Costa said “The gatekeepers. We help families walk through a system that can feel overwhelming connecting them with training, support, and community from the very start.”

The organization partners with churches to build foster care ministries that provide critical wraparound services from small groups and trauma-informed education to parents’ night out events and summer camp scholarships. “Statistically, if we can provide church-based support, families are

far more likely to continue fostering past the first year,” Costa said. “It’s not that the journey gets easier it’s that they’re no longer alone ”

Amanda Dillon, who joined the organization in 2022 after fostering her first child in early 2020, echoes that sentiment.

“We watched ‘Sound of Hope’ (movie) at church and knew this is where we need to be,” she said “Our goal is to get into every church, because that’s where foster families can find the long-term support they need ”

Amanda, now a foster mom of multiple children, knows the challenges firsthand especially when fostering during COVID and navigating specialized needs like autism.

“It’s hard, yes,” she says “But it’s worth it,” she said “You forget the hard parts when you see the heart changes. These kids just want to be loved and accepted. They become part of your family.”

Foster in Faith also helps families understand the differences between working with Division of Family Services and specialized agencies, which often serve children with higher needs like large sibling groups or those with medical concerns.

“There are 107 children at Child Haven right now without homes,” Costa said. “We need more families and more churches willing to come alongside them.”

The first question is always the same: Won’t it hurt when they leave?

“Yes,” Costa said. “But even one day in a safe, loving home can change a child’s entire path. That’s the part that stays with them.”

Foster care has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember I grew up in a home where my parents opened their door, and their hearts, to youth in need Watching them provide love, structure, and safety shaped me deeply

My husband, Elton, brings his own powerful experience to our journey. He was removed from his parents at just 1 years old. Thankfully, his grandmother stepped in and raised him in Guatemala until he was 15, when he made the brave decision to return to the U.S. to reconnect with his biological parents.

After we married and had our three biological children, fostering remained in the back of our minds It was something we always knew we’d do Once we were settled in our new home, we brought it to the table as a family decision Everyone, including our kids, had a say If even one of them had reservations, we would’ve hit pause. But the unanimous response was “yes.” That was nearly 11 years ago, and we haven’t looked back.

Being a resource (foster) parent means more than just having a room available It means having a heart ready We ensure every child who arrives has a warm welcome: fresh clothes, books, toys, and the sense that they are safe We began fostering toddlers, and over time, we opened our home to newborns Each child that’s come through our door has been treated like family

Reunification is always the goal. That’s something I wish more people understood. Being a resource parent isn’t about replacing a child’s family it’s about being a bridge during a time of uncertainty It’s heartbreaking at times, especially when children return to situations that feel unfamiliar or risky, but we’ve learned to trust the process and focus on the love we’re able to give while they’re with us

The journey hasn’t been easy We’ve faced behavior challenges, emotional rollercoasters, cultural adjustments, and difficult goodbyes. Two girls, in separate cases, left our home under tough circumstances. One went to a relative after we thought we’d adopt her. The other was reunified during the pandemic, and that transition was especially hard, everything had been virtual, and the connection to her parents was fragile

But there’s also been profound joy We’ve been blessed to adopt two incredible children our daughter, placed with us at five days old, is now eight and radiates love and light Our youngest, a boy we welcomed as a newborn, became part of our forever family in 2024 He was our first foster son, and my older son just knew he’d be staying for good.

This journey isn’t for everyone but for our family, it’s been nothing short of a calling And we wouldn’t trade it for the world

A Reunification Story That Changed Us All

A time I will never forget was the placement of the last little girl we cared for before adopting our son. We had her from birth, and she stayed with us for a full year. I never expected the reunification to go so well or for such a strong bond to form with her mother. From day one, we shared one important thing: we both wanted what was best for her daughter.

Through our connection with the baby, we built a friendship. Some might think it’s unusual to become close with a biological parent, but it was a beautiful and healing experience Her mother saw the love we poured into her daughter and trusted us fully She was open and honest about why her children were in foster care, and she committed to doing the hard work to heal for her kids and herself

As her reunification neared, her mom asked if my husband and I would be her daughter’s godparents With tears in my eyes, I said yes To this day, we stay in touch with regular FaceTime calls and visits Watching that mother transform was inspiring That reunification was one of the most meaningful experiences we've ever had as resource parents.

Thinking About Fostering?

Here Are Your First Steps:

A First Look

A New CASA Advocate Shares Early Insight into the Role and Its Impact

Local business owner David J. Present felt a calling to step up as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer He quickly learned that making a difference isn’t about grand gestures it’s about being there, listening with heart, and offering a steady, reliable presence when it’s needed most

Though new to the program, his passion is clear: “Children in the foster system are particularly vulnerable. Being a mentor to a case youth and helping them navigate such a difficult period of time is incredibly powerful.”

With a background in law (he recently passed the California Bar), Present finds CASA advocacy both meaningful and aligned with his interest in courtroom procedures.

“The role is more direct, one-on-one with the child,” he said. “You are a mentor to them and you are their support system”

Present, who is a third-generation coowner and part of Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet leadership, acknowledges the role comes with challenges.

“Navigating the judicial process, working with a social worker, the child, and the natural parents can all be difficult,” he said “Meeting a youth that needs a good role model and support, that’s the most rewarding part ”

For those considering the role, he says the most important qualities are compassion, patience, and the ability to connect.

“The biggest donation anyone can make is with their time. If they have the interest and the dedication, they can change a life.”

Where Littles Learn Big

A DAY AT YUZU AND SPACE MICROSCHOOL

Tucked into a bright, joyful corner of Las Vegas is a place where curiosity runs wild, tiny hands get messy, and learning feels like play.

Welcome to Yuzu and Space Micro School, a drop-in learning hub for children of all abilities from crawlers to curious tweens

Founded by early childhood educator and mom Runa Howard, Yuzu and Space was born out of a desire to create a space that’s as flexible as it is magical

“I wanted to build a micro school that gave kids freedom to explore while still being gently guided,” Runa shares “There’s beauty in letting children learn at their own pace, especially when they’re surrounded by different ages and abilities”

Tuesday Playdays are a highlight for local families: From 8:30 am to 3 pm, little ones can drop in to play, craft, imagine, and connect no time limits, no pressure Outside snacks are welcome, and parents love the low-cost structure: just $15 for the first child, $10 for the second, and $5 for each sibling after that

“We’ve had kids build entire ‘planets’ out of cardboard and toddlers painting with spaghetti noodles,” Runa laughs “Our goal is joyful learning, plain and simple”

Beyond Tuesdays, the micro school hosts themed classes every weekday from sensory art to precooking and hands-on science It’s all part of Runa’s vision to provide holistic, accessible enrichment for families who want something different than the traditional classroom

“This isn’t just about learning colors or counting to ten. It’s about helping kids feel safe, celebrated, and excited to learn,” she says.

With flexible drop-ins, no pressure to commit, and a welcoming vibe, Yuzu and Space Microschool is a little hidden gem in the Las Vegas parenting community and one that’s quickly becoming a favorite for families who believe learning should always come with a little laughter

Build Your Village This Summer

If summer break has you juggling lesson plans, field trip ideas, and a desperate need for community, a new app might just be your saving grace. BaseCampEd is a free digital platform created to help homeschooling families, microschoolers, and alternative education seekers find their people, plan their days, and build meaningful learning experiences together.

THE BUSINESS OF RAISING BOYS

A Mompreneur's Perspective

Part of our ongoing series talking to local parents about their experience.

When I stepped into entrepreneurship, I didn’t realize I was also shaping how I would raise our two boys Today, as teenagers navigating an increasingly complex world, I see that they’re beginning to walk their own paths with the tools, mindset, and resilience I learned the hard way and intentionally passed on to them

Why I Share My Lessons

I didn’t just want to build a business I wanted to raise strong, confident, kind young men I knew that the lessons I was learning how to navigate challenges, embrace change, stay flexible, and lead with heart were powerful tools I wanted to share with them So early on, I made a conscious decision to bring those insights home

I continue to do this, because I believe that preparing our kids for life goes far beyond grades or extracurriculars. It’s about equipping them for real challenges, for uncertainty, for moments when things don’t go as planned. It’s about encouraging them to think critically, process emotions in a healthy way, and develop the tools to grow into thoughtful, independent individuals.

Tools for Life

Entrepreneurship taught me to be resilient, adaptable, and solutions-focused skills I’ve worked to pass on to our boys. I’ve encouraged them to embrace the idea that: Growth is a mindset: Your potential grows when you believe you can Youareyourbestasset:Successandfulfillmentcomefromwithin Bygrowinganddevelopingyourself Progress is powerful: Small steps lead to big change

Failure is feedback: Mistakes are opportunities to learn

A Meaningful Impact

Applying these tools consistently isn’t always easy especially for teenager sometimes struggle with the effort it takes to grow and stay disciplined I o only show you the path, but you have to choose to walk it" I’ve learned that comes through lived experience, so I continue to guide and encourage the foundation they can return to whenever they need it

Being a mompreneur gave me perspective

Imagine if we all had that kind of foundation as teens the courage to face life boldly, the confidence to believe in our potential, and the mindset to shape our own future. That’s the gift I want to give our boys and the foundation I hope will empower them to thrive, no matter where life takes them. When we raise resilient, self-aware, and compassionate individuals, we've succeeded far beyond any business milestone

THE BUZZ ON BEES

LEARN TO LOVE THE HARDWORKING BEES!

Imagine a swarm of thousands of bees invading your home, buzzing all around.

It happened to a local homeowner this spring when a swarm of 3,000 bees decided to take up residence in her roof The bees were safely removed by professional beekeepers. No bees or humans were harmed.

The unusual occurrence gave locals the shudders, but in reality, bees tend to leave people alone as they gather pollen.

That doesn’t make it any easier for little kids and adults who cringe and scream at the inch-long insects

“I lived for over 40 years deathly afraid of bees,” said Pete Rizzo, beekeeper and owner of Vegas Bees. “I would see one and run.”

His crippling fear of bees evaporated after spending a

summer with the bees as an apprentice bee keeper

Vegas Bees performs no-kill bee removals, rescuing wasps, bumblebees and yellowjackets. Bees do not need to be exterminated; they can be saved instead. Many of their clients enjoy having the bees around.

“They say 30% of our food wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for bees pollinating, especially stuff like blueberries and almonds,” Rizzo said Bees are also important for other critters, as the plants provide food for other animals in the valley

Providing clean, fresh water for the bees every day is important to keep them thriving. When the bees get thirsty, swimming pools are a popular watering hole.

“We get hundreds of calls about bees at people’s swimming pools,” Rizzo said. “There’s really nothing you can do about it unless you find the beehives that are visiting that pool.”

The hives must be shaded and insulated to keep them cool, meaning less time to hang out poolside.

“Keeping the hives cooler relieves the bees of having to do

“You get excited when you see things that the bees like just starting to bloom,” Rizzo said. “You’re just so happy for your bees because now they get to go get pollen and nectar from that source.”

TIPS FOR A SAFE & SWEET BEE SEASON

Don't Wear Perfume Smell Like Nothing!

Bees love sweet scents… just not on you. Skip fruity lotions and perfumes when heading outdoors.

Wear Light Colors

Dark colors can make you look like a threat (or a bear!). Bees tend to ignore lighter, pastel clothing

Skip the Swatting

We know it’s tempting, but waving your arms or swatting may agitate them Stay calm and gently move away

Cover Your Sweets

Soda cans and sticky snacks = bee magnets Use lids, wrap up leftovers, and watch where you sip!

Check Before You Step

Bees love clover and flowers in grass. Shoes are your friend flip-flops, not so much.

Bee Kind to Nests

If you find a hive near your home, don’t DIY it Call a professional beekeeper or pest control service trained in safe removal

Make Room for Pollinators

Planting bee-friendly flowers away from play areas keeps them busy and your space buzz-free

Pack an EpiPen (Just in Case)

If you or your child has an allergy, make sure an EpiPen is handy during outdoor adventures.

For teens looking to build confidence, sharpen skills, and stand out in job interviews, volunteering is a game-changer. Beyond simply “doing good,” volunteer work offers real-world experience that mirrors what future employers are looking for: commitment, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.

That’s why VKZ’s Volunteer Training Kit was created to help teens take their experiences and turn them into interview-ready talking points The kit walks students through how to document hours, reflect on what they learned, and describe their impact in a way that wows future employers or college admissions.

Inside the kit:

A resume-building worksheet to track skills and roles

A mock interview guide with teen-focused sample questions

A reflection journal to connect experience with goals

A certificate of completion for portfolios or applications

Whether helping at community events, mentoring younger kids, or working at local nonprofits, teens are not only giving back they’re building the kind of résumé that opens doors.

Get your free kit here.

By getting involved with local organizations, you’ll not only put your time to good use but also step out of your comfort zone in a fun and positive environment. You’ll meet new people, gain hands-on experience, and discover new passions all while making a real difference. Volunteering is for everyone, no matter your skills or interests, and it’s a great way to learn something new while giving back.

The9 IslandCelebratesAAPIMonth th

Las Vegas is known as the “9th Island” because so many people from Hawai'i live here now. And let me tell you, the food? Straight fire.

It’s like the islands packed their bags and moved to the desert.

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about spam musubi Spam’s not really my thing but I gave it a try and guess what? It actually slapped. And the fried mahi mahi, barbecue short rib, and barbecue salmon with rice and mac salad? Straight up next level.

Now I’ve got my sights set on BBQ beef, garlic shrimp, loco moco, and kalua pork. My taste buds are locked in and ready.

There’s always something happening in Vegas The Pure Aloha Festival is a big deal live music, hula dancing, and food that’ll have you drooling Pretty much all the eats I just mentioned? They are there, plus a bunch more. You’ll even find Hawaiian food trucks around town and chill events like Aloha Fridays that bring all the flavor and good vibes

Whether you’re from the islands or just love the chill vibes, Vegas brings the aloha spirit big time. No ocean needed just bring your appetite and maybe a stretchy waistband

The Low Down on Torpedo Comics, Free Comic Book Day & Tips to Tour National Parks

Torpedo Comics

Where Las Vegas Legends and Comic Dreams Collide

Torpedo Comics is not your average comic bookstore Owner John Dolmayan, drummer for System of a Down, calls Las Vegas "home and a place of solitude," and has crafted Torpedo Comics to cater to the community with its mix of memorabilia, fan favorites and care

“When a kid walks in, I want them to feel the same thing I felt when I was 12 and I walked into my first comic book store,” Dolmayan told Inc.com in 2017. “I want the adults to feel that way too. I want people to feel good about being there… and miss it when they aren’t there.”

Placed prominently in a Henderson shopping mall, Dolmayan and his staff have created a haven for comic book and sci fi fans

Famed figures, such as a life-sized Yoda and oversized Lego Batman, decorate the comic book store You can find a life-sized LEGO Batman at the entrance, holding his batarang There is also the Millennium Falcon, hung from the ceiling as if it were zooming through the Star Wars galaxy

Lauren Archer, the Operations Manager, oversees the store and clearly loves what she does. She started out as a volunteer and "worked her way up through the ranks.”

A key element of Torpedo comics is giving back to the community.

"We donate [our comics] to a nonprofit organization known as Critical Care Comics" Archer said CCC was founded by a cancer survivor Local cosplayers dress up in ornate costumes and volunteer to go to children's hospitals in character and give out comic books to sick children

When you visit, you can buy a signed drumstick or check out System of a Down memorabilia.

For those into comics and Funko Pops, you'll be right at home among the thousands of issues, including collector's items like a 1939 edition of Dick Tracy.

All are welcome and encouraged to visit Torpedo Comics on May 3, where comic bookstores across North America distribute free comic books for all The free comic book day is traditionally held on May 4, known as "May the Fourth Be With You” day

"Usually, we try to get Marvel or DC Comics,” Archer said “A distribution company gives us a select number of books to choose from and we order them. It's a huge day and we'll have lots of people in the store."

PARKRANGERS Nature’s Ultimate Superheroes

Ever wondered who keeps our parks magical, wild, and wonderfully safe? Enter the park ranger a real-life superhero in khakis! These nature-loving guardians do way more than just stroll scenic trails and pose for cool pictures (although they do that, too).

By day, they might be rescuing a lost hiker, educating visitors about why feeding squirrels French fries is a bad idea, or conducting top-secret wildlife stakeouts (aka checking on animal populations) They’re also expert detectives, tracking footprints both human and animal to solve mysteries like “Who stole the campground marshmallows?” (Hint: Probably a raccoon.)

Park rangers are part firefighters, part tour guides, and part law enforcement They protect delicate ecosystems, fight wildfires, and kindly remind tourists, “No, you cannot take home a baby bison as a souvenir” They also remove suspiciously brave tourists from off-limits geysers and cliffsbeforenaturalselectionkicksin

Tanya K., a dedicated park ranger, shares, “Every day is an adventure. One moment I’m leading a group on a nature hike, the next I’m making sure a bear doesn’t crash someone’s picnic!” She adds, “Seeing people connect with nature and watching kids get excited about the outdoors is thebestpartofmyjob”

So, the next time you visit a national or state park, give a nod to the ranger in the funny hat They’re not j st keeping the peace the ’re keeping the e
