Tooth Fairy Day is Aug 22 It’s the perfect time to celebrate one of childhood’s most magical traditions and a great reminder to start early with healthy dental habits Whether your little one has their first wiggly tooth or you’re preparing for future visits from the Tooth Fairy, now’s the time to get excited!
Starting early with brushing, flossing, and fun tooth fairy traditions helps build a lifetime of smiles.
The Tooth Fairy is one of childhood’s most beloved visitors fluttering in quietly to exchange a lost tooth for a small surprise But behind the magic, parents admit it’s not always as seamless as it seems.
“I completely forgot one night,” said Olivia Oprenti, mom of three. “I had to say the Tooth Fairy must’ve had a wing injury and needed a day to recover That’s when I ordered a Tooth Fairy kit Now I’m ready every time!”
These kits, which include a lost tooth certificate, tiny envelope, reward chart, and even a pre-written fairy letter, have saved many a frazzled parent.
“I keep a kit in my bedside drawer,” said Carlos H., dad of two. “We missed a night and my daughter was devastated Now I have a backup plan with glitter and all.”
From handwritten notes in sparkly ink to tiny dollar bills tucked in miniature pillows, parents are finding ways to preserve the magic while giving themselves grace
The Tooth Fairy isn’t just about the money it’s about the memory And for the parents juggling long days, lost teeth, and bedtime chaos, a well-stocked kit can make all the difference in keeping the tradition alive (and believable!).
Make losing teeth magical with our Tooth Fairy Kit!
Your kit includes:
A sweet letter to the Tooth Fairy
A Lost Tooth Certificate to commemorate the moment
✍ A handwriting practice sheet (because fairies love neat notes!)
A brushing reward chart to build great habits
“I Don’t Want to Do It!”: When Homew Just About Homework, an excerpt from Raise a Happy Child (and be happy too
My son slammed his pencil down. "I'm done! Homework is the worst "
Honestly? I agreed. I was tired, he was tired, and the last thing either of us wanted to do was dive into two more hours of worksheets after an alreadylong day. But instead of turning into the Homework Police (again), I took a breath and reached for what I call "choice power."
"I get it," I said. "When my boss gives me too much work, I want to quit too What do you think your choices are?"
He paused. "I could skip it and get a bad grade or I could finish it and feel proud."
"Which one feels better?" I asked gently. He sighed "Finishing "
That's when everything shifted.
Instead of forcing him to do the thing, I gave him the one thing kids often need most ownership. He felt seen. He felt in control. And even better? He followed through, without the drama
ReflectionPause:
This wasn't just about homework It was about decision-making, responsibility, and learning how to listen to yourself instead of being pushed from the outside
The truth is, we can't do our children's learning for them. But we can show up with love, grace, and the kind of support that whispers, You've got this.
Sometimes that means stepping back. Letting go of control Trusting that even if they stumble, there's growth in the fall.
And that night? Homework got done fast We built a model plane together. We laughed. And we ended the night with a deeper connection because the homework wasn't the real lesson The real lesson?
You always have options even when it doesn't feel like it
Every choice holds a learning moment.
And love grows strongest when we guide with grace, not force

Back-to-school season can bring a flurry of emotions excitement, anticipation, and for many kids (and parents!), a good dose of anxiety.
Whether it’s a first-time kindergartener or a high schooler heading into a new environment, those nervous butterflies are totally normal. The key is helping your child feel seen, supported, and prepared.
Start with a conversation Ask openended questions like, “What are you most excited about?” and “Is there anything you’re nervous about?” This gives kids a safe space to voice their worries.
Listen
without jumping in to
fix everything sometimes, just being heard is enough to ease fears.
Routine is your best friend Begin shifting sleep and mealtime schedules a week or two before school starts Predictability builds a sense of security, especially when everything else feels new You can even do a practice run of the first day wake up, get dressed, pack a lunch, and drive or walk the school route together.
Reframe anxiety as excitement The physical sensations are often the same (racing heart, sweaty palms) Try saying, “That feeling in your tummy? It means you care about this That’s a good thing”
Don’t forget your own feelings Kids often mirror their parents’ emotions If you’re calm and positive (even if you’re faking it a bit), they’ll pick up on that confidence
Finally, celebrate the small wins A brave wave goodbye, remembering to bring their folder, or making a new friend all deserve high-fives.
The transition back to school doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be supported with patience, love, and maybe a few extra morning hugs You've got this And so do they.
Hi, I’m Denise, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and founder of Smart Stop Medical. I’ve worked in healthcare for over 10 years, including pediatrics, urgent care, and hospice. But the real inspiration for starting this practice came after I became a mom After having my first baby, I was juggling postpartum visits, my son’s checkups, and all the little “is this normal?” moments in between Trying to get out the door with a newborn was exhausting incorporating naps, feedings, and diaper changes turned even a quick appointment into an hours- long ordeal. I remember thinking, there has to be an easier way That’s when the idea for Smart Stop Medical clicked I created this virtual clinic to make healthcare more accessible for busy families, especially parents and caregivers who don’t have time to wait weeks for an appointment or sit in crowded waiting rooms. With Smart Stop Medical, you can get care from the comfort of home often on the same day We’re a small practice, so when you reach out, you get direct access to me
I don’t leave patients waiting for days to hear back. I truly listen, answer questions, and explain things clearly so families feel confident and in control As a mom of a toddler and currently expecting baby #2, I know how important it is to have care that’s flexible, fast, and actually helpful.
“My kid’s fever shot up to 104 out of nowhere, and of course it’s after hours always is! Another trip to the ER Has anyone tried telehealth in situations like this? Is it actually helpful or just a waste of precious time when you’re freaking out?” – Tiffany H
This is such a stressful yet common situation, and you're right, it always seems to happen after hours. The short answer? Yes, telehealth can absolutely help in cases like this, and it can often prevent an unnecessary ER trip. As a Family Nurse Practitioner and a mom, I know how overwhelming it feels when your child spikes a high fever out of nowhere Through telehealth, we can quickly assess your child’s symptoms, talk through what’s going on, and help you decide what level of care is needed. Many times, that might mean starting treatment right away, whether it’s a prescription for an infection or guidance on how to manage the fever at home
One of the unique benefits of virtual care is that I get to see what’s actually happening in your home You can show me how you're checking their temperature, what medications you've already given, or even walk me through what you're noticing in real time That kind of context helps me give more personalized advice, all without the stress of packing up and heading to a clinic If it does end up being something more serious, I’ll help guide you to the right care. But in many cases, telehealth gives parents the clarity and peace of mind they need without the added stress of an ER visit

Who knows the back-to-school and homeschool hustle better than the parents living it in real time?
BySamSchierholz
What began as a way to share family moments slowly turned into something much more meaningful for local mom Marie Phan
“It became a space where I could document real life, connect with others, and build a community of parents who are navigating the same ups and downs,” Phan said The mom of three uncovers local finds and promotes small businesses via her main channel @mrsmariealvarezp on Instagram (also TikTok and YouTube).
The ever-hustling mama behind the scenes brings locals together through her lively book club, @booksandbanterlv, and cozy coffee catch-ups at @beautyandabarista. For over 10 years, she’s been the glue connecting a growing community of 40,000+ seeking real connection.
Favorite Amazon must-haves for BTS season?
A good bento box is a game-changer! It makes packing lunches easier and more fun, and my kids love having different foods separated and organized I also love adding little surprise notes or stickers inside Amazon has a ton of those too!
What’s in your emergency car kit for the school year?
Besides snacks (and yes, plenty of rogue hair ties), I always keep a towel and an extra set of swim clothes in the trunk You never know when a last-minute splash pad playdate will happen after school, and being prepared makes those spontaneous moments possible without the stress
What do you actually put in school lunches that kids will eat?
My go-to is steak, rice, fruit, and vegetables it’s simple, satisfying, and packed with nutrients I try to keep lunches balanced and colorful, and I involve my kids in picking what they want, which definitely helps with the “will-they-eat-it” factor
What’s your favorite video you have created?
My most viral reel and definitely one of my favorites is a video I made about fun and creative Easter hunt ideas for families. It took off because it was simple, joyful, and sparked so many people’s imaginations for making the holiday extra special I love that something so playful and family-focused resonated with so many parents It reminded me why I love sharing these kinds of moments because they bring us together, spark joy, and create memories that stick.
What is your best advice for parents who want to do what you do?
Just start The hardest part is taking that first step You don’t need to have it all figured out just start sharing what feels real and true to you. And get a travel tripod! It’s a small investment that makes creating so much easier when you’re juggling kids and content
How has being on social media changed your life?
It’s opened doors I never expected from attending amazing events to collaborating with brands I love. But even more than that, it’s given me a community The people I’ve met along the way fellow moms, creators, and followers have become like family We celebrate each other, support one another, and share in the journey together.

With a passion for teaching, style, and mom life, Charley Yaeger pulls back the curtain on what it’s really like to be a kindergarten teacher in Las Vegas
A veteran of the classroom with more than a decade of experience at Detwiler Elementary, the mom of three launched @heroinheels on Instagram around 2020, along with her popular YouTube and TikTok channels. What started as a way to share teaching tips and outfit inspo has become a vibrant space where education meets everyday glam
What inspired you to bring your classroom to social media?
During the pandemic, it was a beautiful way to connect with other teachers, be one another’s support and get amazing interactive and creative ways to best reach our students!
How has it changed the way you teach?
Instagram has made it to where I am in a constant mode of forever broadening my knowledge, trying new ways to engage my students, and to help ensure I never become too complacent! It allows me to have a forever growth mindset with like-minded people!
Fromleft-Immanuel,15, Josh,13,andCali,11with theirmom,localteacher CharleyYaeger at FantasticIndoorSwap Meet.PhotobyCapture MomentsPhotography
CharleyYaeger,localteacher,andher colleaguesatDetwilerElementary.
What’s been your most unexpected viral moment?
My first viral post was of me creating a paper tree for my mom’s classroom
The funny part is that I was doing it last minute for her, she just had to change classrooms and I was stressing a little about helping her and getting my own room up and wow! I would’ve never expected that video to blow up in the ways it did! But how fun!
How do your students react when they realize you're TikTok famous?
I’ve taught all different ages and each has a different reaction. My fourth graders were a crack up because they don’t initially believe you but then after doing some digging they want to comment on everything and constantly want to know how you got famous LOL My kinder-babies are so funny because they will tell you how they found you and watched it all night!
Tell me about your favorite video you have created. My favorite videos have become the remixes of funny memes I will apply to teaching! This is because this career truly has its ups and downs and for sanity purposes you have to find the light and beauty in it at times and laugh your way through! These videos have let me do that while making other teachers laugh at them too!
Rapping for his students and lifting a car are just two of the viral videos that local history teacher Michael Botticelli, 48, is known for Currently at Doral Red Rock High School, Mr. Bee, as he is affectionately and virally known, has been teaching for more than 15 years, jumping into social media a few years ago to breathe life into ancient ideas in a fun and entertaining way.
What is your origin story?
I have had social media like Facebook and YouTube for years but for the last two years in 2023 I started “History With Mr Bee” on Tik Tok and made over 1,200 history lesson videos in my free time My mission is to teach world history one video, one viewer and one day at a time
What inspired you to bring your classroom to social media?
Because 10th Graders are NEVER off their devices so I made HWMB for absent kids And then more adults started to watch than anything
How has TikTok/Instagram changed the way you teach (if at all)?
I have videos that make my objectives clear and highlight them, or to bring a point home.
How do your students react when they realize you're social-media-famous? They laugh and we laugh because they know I’m a regular teacher that is just very into his job and super funny

What’s been your most unexpected viral moment?

A question many homeschool families wonder: Can my child take a class or join a club at our local public school without being fully enrolled? The answer in Nevada is yes, with a few key conditions
Homeschooled children are allowed to participate in electives like music, P.E., art, Spanish, and other “specials,” along with after-school activities such as sports teams, chess clubs, and drama productions, as long as those options are available at the public school they’re zoned for
Classes are open to elementary and high school students who have filed an NOI. Click here for more info on the entire process
Attendance matters. If your child only shows up for one day of a twice-aweek music class, it may count as an absence just as it would for fully enrolled students
To enroll in specials, start by visiting your zoned school and checking out what’s offered Like what you see? Then you’ll need to file a Notice of Intent to Participate in Programs and Activities (NOIPPA) form with the school district This form must be completed each year your child participates
Have an IEP or 504 plan? Nevada law (NRS 392074) allows homeschooled students to attend up to a half-day of public school classes if space and qualifications allow
Middle and high schoolers can also join after-school clubs and extracurriculars
Pro tip: For help with IEPs while homeschooling, consult a special education advocate like Stephanie Wynn, who specializes in navigating these hybrid paths

The bond between grandparents and grandchildren isn’t just sweet; it’s powerful
Studies show that kids with strong grandparent relationships have higher self-esteem, stronger roots, and a greater sense of identity And for grandparents? Staying active and involved with grandkids can boost mental sharpness, emotional health, and yep overall happiness
So how do you keep that bond strong? Shared experiences
Attending events and exploring local attractions together helps create lasting memories, sparks conversation, and lets grandparents step into the kids’ world in a fun and meaningful way.

Ever stood in front of your closet thinking, “I have nothing to wear,” while buried under a mountain of clothes? Yep, we’ve all been there If your closet looks more like a fashion avalanche than a functional space, it might be time for a little closet therapy It doesn’t require channeling your inner Marie Kondo (though we love a good “spark joy” moment). It just takes a plan, a playlist, and a little ruthlessness Need professional help? Manny and his crew at Junk Masterz can truly help you clean out your spaces quickly and with that professional touch. Click here to get the 15-minute Declutter Plan free!
Here’s a simple step-by-step to get you from “What even is this shirt?” to “Wow, I can actually see the floor!”
Step
Take everything out Yes, everything You need to see the full scope of your closet chaos to deal with it properly. Lay it out on your bed, the floor, wherever there’s space Brace yourself
Step
Make four piles:
Keep--You love it You wear it It fits It earns its hanger
Donate--Still in good shape but not your vibe anymore
Sell--Trendy pieces or name-brand items you can list online.
Toss/Repurpose--Stained, ripped, or beyond saving
Step
If you haven’t worn it in a year, it probably needs to go. Still holding onto that “goal weight” dress from 2012? Let it go, Elsa Clothes are meant to fit you, not the other way around
left.
Put your “keep” items back with a system: by season, type, or color whatever makes sense to you. Use bins, baskets, and slim hangers to maximize space Pro tip: Store offseason clothing elsewhere to cut visual clutter
Adopt a “one in, one out” rule. Buy a new pair of jeans? Let go of an old pair. It keeps things fresh and stops your closet from turning into a black hole again
Okay, football season is about to go off and if you’re lucky enough to catch a game at Allegiant Stadium, trust me, don’t eat before the game. The food selection is something serious This place isn’t just serving boring nachos and cold hot dogs. Nah. Allegiant’s food game is just as serious as what’s happening on the field.
Let’s start with Pizza Rock (yeah, like the real-deal Pizza Rock I wrote about last month). They’ve got their pepperoni slice inside the stadium, and it’s just as cheesy and crispy as the original. No shade to Pizza Hut, but Pizza Rock is taking their lunch money.
The Fukuburger fries are wild They’ve got this spicy togarashi seasoning and come with “crack sauce” (don’t worry, it’s just spicy mayo). This spicy mayo hits harder than Maxx Crosby’s sacks.
One of the biggest surprises? Picanha Steak. It’s Brazilian-style and it’s fire. Super juicy and way fancier than what you’d expect from stadium food.
And if you’re feeling hungryhungry, hit Rollin’ Smoke BBQ. Ribs, brisket, chili cheese dogs… you name it, they’ve got it. . ”
Bottom line? If you’re eating at Allegiant, you better bring an appetite and maybe a few extra napkins too.

Get kids cooking with these easy cheesecake bars you can create in any color you prefer!
Ingredients:
Crust:
1 cup graham cracker crumbs or Nilla wafers
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
Cheesecake:
16 ounces (2 large bars)
cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/4 cup sour cream
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Spray a square glass baking dish with nonstick spray and set it aside.
Crush the graham crackers and then mix them with melted butter, saturating all the crumbs so they bind together You can pulse the graham crackers in a food processor or put them in a sealed plastic bag and beat them on the counter, the kid-preferred way.
Press the mixture into the prepared baking dish and set it aside. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add in sugar and sour cream and beat until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each. Add the vanilla and beat on low until all is fully incorporated. Separate the batter into medium-sized bowls and dye them using gel colors.
Spoon cheesecake batter on top of crust Smooth it with the back of a spatula or spoon
Bake at 325 degrees for 35-40 min or until the center is set and the edges are just beginning to brown. Remove from the oven and let cool completely before refrigerating.
You might be tempted to sample the colorful cheesecake square, just a little off the edges, but don’t do it! Chill for a minimum of 2 hours. Slice and serve.

"How can you tell if it’s made by AI or not?"
We asked some smart cookies, and here’s what they said:
Maya, 10: "If someone says something unbelievable, I Google it and then ask my mom"
Lucas, 12: "Sometimes, their hands or teeth look weird, or they blink funny. That’s how I know it’s AI!"
Elena, 8: "If it looks too perfect, like sparkly people smiling real big doing things no one really does, it’s probably AI.”
Jace, 11: "If the voice doesn’t match the mouth or they say something too fast without pausing, that’s AI for sure."
Sophie, 9: "I ask my mom. She’s better at spotting robots than me."
Why did the AI get promoted?
Because it always had great byte-sized ideas!
