Ranger’s Busy Summer Includes Industry Honor, New Contracts ‘Excellence In Paving’ Award

Ranger Construction received a 2016 Excellence in Paving Award (Rural Resurfacing, Dist. 1) from the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida for eight miles of work on CR-68 in Okeechobee County. The project extended from US-441 to the St. Lucie County Line, and called for about 17,000 tons of asphalt mix.

Public-Sector Under a $28.7 million contract, Ranger is reconstructing nearly seven miles of SR-70 in Okeechobee, FL. Begun in October 2014, the project is about three-quarters finished. Crews are also working on projects intersecting SR-70, one just a short distance away at SR-710, the other at CR-611/Jenkins Rd. in neighboring St. Lucie County. Those contracts are respectively valued at $2.75 million, covering primarily milling and resurfacing, and $5.4 million, including widening of both roads at the intersection, drainage improvements and more. On SR-710 in Palm Beach County, extending from the Martin County line to Pratt-Whitney’s manufacturing facility, Ranger is converting two lanes into a four-lane divided roadway with a 40-ft. median. The Design-Build project, valued at $21.9 million, was begun in August 2014 and is nearing completion. In Volusia County, on a section of I-4/ SR-400, Ranger is performing a $6.4 million contract to resurface, restore and rehabilitate about five miles of highway extending eastward from the bridge at St. Johns River. To minimize traffic disruption, paving is at night, with trucks hauling asphalt mix from Ranger’s DeBary plant. Elsewhere in Central Florida, Ranger is milling and resurfacing 12.5 miles of SR-33 near Clermont under a $6 million contract.

In Melbourne, construction continues on a section of St. John’s Heritage Parkway, extending south from US-192, under a $12.3 million contract. Begun last year in March, work is scheduled for substantial completion by April 2017. The company is making a number of improvements to SR-60 in Polk County, widening the road, and milling and resurfacing the existing lanes. The $5.8 million contract covers nearly seven miles of roadway and involves drainage work, bridge rail retrofits, shoulder treatment and more. Ranger crews in South Florida are also keeping busy, making progress on SR-786/ PGA Boulevard improvements in Palm Beach County, two I-75 design-build projects in Broward County, and paving as a subcontractor for SR-823/Red Road improvements in Miami, among other work.

Ranger has been working on numerous private-sector projects as well. reflecting the overall improved economy in the Sunshine State. These include a range of site work and paving services for Magic Kingdom and ESPN properties in Central Florida, along with Hattaway Storage and a new Walmart, also in the Orlando area. Additional site and paving projects include a new Publix shopping center in Palm Beach County, Valencia Cove in Boynton Beach, and numerous repaving projects for communities, homeowners associations and commercial establishments throughout Ranger’s market areas. Crews have made improvements to the Florida Mall, Tanger Outlets, Royal Poinciana Plaza, Village Point, Mariner Sands, Green Turtle Cove, Stuart Yacht Club, Heron Wood, Adelaide, Magnolia Plantation, Stonybrook and others.

Ranger Provides Emergency Sinkhole Repair On Turnpike

After a broken water main caused sinkholes on Florida’s Turnpike in Miami, Ranger Construction sprang into action, working overnight and into the next day to repair and reopen the lanes, earning praise from local and state officials.

Private-Sector

Among Ranger’s new contracts are an $8.4 million project to improve the Turnpike interchange at Glades Rd. in Palm Beach County. Work includes widening the northbound off ramp from one to two lanes, replacing a short bridge span to match, and adding about a mile of approach lane on the Turnpike itself. The contract also calls for the addition of dedicated turn lanes onto and off of westbound Glades Road. In Miami-Dade County, Ranger is milling and resurfacing a section of Tamiami Trail (US41/SR-90) under a $4.2 million contract, while in Brevard, crews are milling and resurfacing three miles of US-1/SR-5. The latter project is valued at $3.76 million and includes widening a turn lane, shoulder construction, cross-slope correction, and other improvements along the busy route.
