The Hoka UTMB® Mont-Blanc partner products for you to try throughout the summer. You can find them in the village at the various stands.

1.

HOKA MAFATE 5

The latest edition of the brand’s flagship model, a true pillar of ultra-trail running, and the shoe that built its success. More protective than ever, it retains the Mafate DNA: massive cushioning, stability, and impeccable grip.

The new Rocker Integrity geometry smooths the stride and provides extra control on technical terrain, where previous versions could feel more demanding. The dual-density midsole balances responsiveness and absorption, though the shoe remains more comfort-oriented than performancedriven. On the ground, the 5 mm Vibram® Megagrip Traction Lug outsole delivers flawless traction, both on wet rocks and muddy sections. The reinforced upper, made of anti-fray technical mesh with a TPU cage, improves durability, while gaiter attachments and reflective details confirm its long-distance and ultra orientation.

STRENGTHS:

cushioned comfort, outstanding grip, improved stability, excellent foot protection.

An ultra-protective and reassuring shoe, built for technical terrain and long efforts.

2.

SIDAS

ANTI-FRICTION CREAM

Highly effective for ultra and endurance athletes, where managing friction can make the difference between quitting and finishing. Formulated with 99% natural ingredients, it relies on a film-forming protective action, creating a barrier that effectively reduces irritation and blisters. Its soft texture spreads easily, absorbs quickly without stickiness, and is practical to apply both before the start and during effort.

Sensitive areas – feet, thighs, armpits, nipples –benefit from long-lasting protection, enhancing skin elasticity and its ability to withstand repeated mechanical stress. Packaged in a 75 ml tube at €14.95, the cream is affordable and easy to carry in an assistance bag.

Strengths: natural composition, long-lasting effectiveness, pleasant texture, convenient format.

PRICE: €14,95

3.

RUDY PROJECT ASTRAL SPHERE

The expertise of the Italian brand shines through: advanced optical technology, long-lasting comfort, and premium design. At just 26 g, it feels almost weightless, yet maintains excellent stability thanks to its ergonomic nose bridge and adjustable temples, allowing precise fit for all face shapes. The spherical lens offers a wide peripheral vision with virtually no distortion, while improving airflow to reduce fogging during intense efforts.

Optical quality is enhanced by ImpactX photochromic lenses, which instantly adapt to changing light, ensuring clarity and comfort in all conditions. For contrast lovers, the Polar 3FX Multilaser version is a strong alternative.

Another highlight: compatibility with an optical insert for prescription lenses, a rare advantage in this premium segment. The frame, made of Rilsan Clear® (a bioplastic derived from castor oil), combines lightness, flexibility, and durability.

WEIGHT: 26g

PRICE: € 209.90

4.

BUFF ®

5 PANEL GO CAP

The Buff 5 Panel Go Cap perfectly illustrates the brand’s functional and minimalist approach. Designed for outdoor activities as well as everyday use, it combines effective sun protection, lightness, and comfort in motion. Its quick-drying technical fabric paired with an internal sweatband ensures optimal moisture management, keeping the head cool even during intense efforts. Its 5-panel construction provides a stable fit and clean style, while the flexible visor protects effectively without obstructing vision.

Ultra-compact, it folds easily to fit into a backpack or shorts pocket, a valuable asset during a run. Made in Barcelona from recycled materials, the Go Cap reflects an eco-conscious approach, while maintaining the quality and durability Buff is known for.

We especially appreciated its lightness, quick drying, and compactness.

5. NÄAK

GEL BOOST ENERGY

This North American brand’s gel is positioned as the first energy gel specifically dedicated to ultra-trail, offering more complete nutrition for long-distance races, avoiding blood sugar spikes, and providing sustained energy. It contains 27 g of carbs, 365 mg of electrolytes, plus 9 g of fats to smooth blood sugar, and 2 g of protein including 235 mg of BCAAs to reduce muscle fatigue during effort.

In use, its semi-liquid texture stands out, avoiding the “pasty” mouthfeel of some gels and ensuring easy absorption. The Salted Maple Syrup flavor is unique and appealing to European palates, and just like the Chocolate flavor (with a 35 mg caffeine boost), it is subtly dosed to prevent nausea over long distances.

PRICE: € 34,95

PRICE: € 3,50 per gel

6. SHOKZ

OPENSWIM PRO AUDIO HEADPHONES

The Shokz OpenSwim Pro proves to be a reliable ally for listening to your favorite tracks both in the water and on land. During our test, we were impressed by the sound quality and ease of use, testing it while running, cycling… and even kayaking!

The OpenSwim Pro uses 8th generation bone-conduction technology, transmitting sound directly to the inner ear via jawbone vibrations. This allows you to listen without blocking your ears, keeping you aware of your surroundings whether underwater or on land. Its lightweight design and flexible ear hooks ensure comfort and stability during effort. Listening Modes & Features

The headset offers two modes: Bluetooth and MP3. In Bluetooth mode, it provides smooth connectivity with a 10-meter range thanks to Bluetooth 5.4. Its 32 GB internal memory stores up to 8000 songs in MP3 mode, offering flexibility of use. With PremiumPitch 2.0+, it delivers clear sound, strong volume, and deep bass adaptable to your environment.

For calls, the dual microphone and noise cancellation system ensure crisp conversations.

PERFORMANCE & BATTERY LIFE

Battery life: 9 hours in Bluetooth mode, 6 hours in MP3 mode. Waterproof rating: IP68, submersible up to 2 m. Weight: 27.3 g. Colors: Red and Midnight Blue.

PRICE: €199

7.

RUN MOTION COACH APPLICATION

Born in the Alps and now used by over a million runners, RunMotion Coach has become a reference for structured training, from 10 km to long-distance trail running. It stands out with personalized training plans, generated up to 12 months before the target race, and adjusted weekly according to level, schedule, terrain, and fitness. The free version already lets you set multiple goals, receive tailored plans (road, trail, wellness), with automatic pace calculation and GPS watch synchronization.

But the Premium version really makes the difference: export sessions to Garmin, Suunto, or Coros, real-time plan adjustments, menstrual cycle and recovery integration, guided strength training, cross-training (cycling, swimming, skiing), and mental preparation. It also offers “shock weekends” for ultra-trail training, plus nutrition and recovery advice for a holistic performance approach.

In short, RunMotion Coach goes far beyond a simple training plan: it’s a true digital coaching companion, built by elite coaches and runners, bringing training science to everyone.

8.

SUUNTO SUUNTO RACE S

Performance in a discreet format – that’s the best way to sum up this outdoor GPS watch. It packs all the features of its “big sister,” the Suunto Race, but in a smaller (45 mm vs. 49 mm) and more discreet case, perfect for slimmer wrists, all at a highly competitive price.

More compact, it logically compromises on screen size (33 mm vs. 36 mm) and battery life (30 h in dual-frequency multi-GNSS, 60 h in eco mode). The screen glass is Gorilla Glass instead of sapphire, but the watch is lighter (60 g, -23 g compared to the larger 50 mm Race). It features the new optical heart-rate sensor (also updated on the Race), and offers top-notch mapping – unique in this price range!

Price: Good news: The Race S Titanium is on sale for €349 from August 26 to September 14, 2025 inclusive.

PRICE : €349 euros from August 26 to September 14, 2025 inclusive.

9.

AONIJIE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES 10L

This pack confirms the brand’s performance-accessibility focus, designed for races from 50 to 100 km. The new “Sprouting Green” colorway adds freshness while retaining functionality: 11 compartments for optimal organization, including two front pockets sized for 500 ml soft flasks, plus a rear hydration bladder sleeve. Stability is ensured by the patented molded chest buckle, offering dynamic hold even on technical descents, complemented by a breathable mesh back panel that enhances ventilation and thermal management. Dual pole-carrying options (front or back) adapt to runner preferences and race profiles.

For safety, it includes multipoint reflective details, an emergency whistle, and a survival blanket, meeting mandatory ultra gear requirements.

We liked: excellent value for money, complete organization, thermal comfort, safety accessories included.

10.

COMPRESSPORT

MANCHON COMPRESSPORT R2V3

The perfect evolution of the R2V2.

Like its predecessor, it offers exclusive seamless multi-gradual compression, quick-drying fabric, and the K-Protect tab specifically designed to reduce shocks. Targeted waffle-knit horizontal zones stimulate microcirculation and reduce inflammation. The new 3D weave activates proprioceptive receptors in the fibular muscles, enhancing balance and stability, particularly on descents, and reducing the risk of ankle twists and sprains.

Targeted calf compression helps absorb shocks and reduce vibrations. Muscle damage, fatigue, and cramps are pushed back. Once on, you feel fully “supported” and completely secure, even on the most technical trails.

All that, with the customized HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc look, of course!

VOLUNTEER INTERVIEWS

NICOLAS DÉGY, SWISS VOLUNTEER

1. COULD YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF?

My name is Nicolas Dégy, I’m 51 and I live in Vevay and Champex le Lac. I work in the business travel sector and I volunteered for the first time on the UTMB in 2004. Since then I’ve only missed three editions: 2012, 2014 and 2015. Apart from my volunteer work, I love hiking in the mountains, travelling and sharing great moments with my family and friends.

2. WHAT IS THE TITLE OF YOUR VOLUNTEER POSITION, AND WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE BEFORE AND DURING UTMB WEEK? WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO THE ORGANISATION OF THE EVENT?

My main job during the UTMB is to welcome runners, support crews and volunteers, and to manage retirements on the OCC, CCC and UTMB races at Champex-Lac. I also take on other jobs as required, the important thing is that everything runs smoothly. There’s always a great atmosphere, whether it’s among the volunteers, with the organizers, the participants or their support crews. As part of the team has been the same for quite a few years now, we’re getting to know each other very well. It’s also great to be able to welcome new volunteers every year, particularly young people who are highly motivated. They’re the next generation, although we’re not about to stop yet!

3. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS IN YOUR ROLE?

Over the years I’ve gathered a lot of memories. It’s incredible to see the evolution of the event. In the early years, the ChampexLac base camp was located on the other side of the resort, in the old military base. One of the many memories from the early years, for the UTMB, runners could have a drop bag at Champex-Lac. Late on Friday evenings a lorry would arrive full of bags, and they would be placed in such a way as to make it easier to give them away when the runners passed by. And a little anecdote: many years later, some runners still ask us where their bags are when they arrive.

In 2011, because of the weather conditions, the course had to be changed. The race passed just a few metres from the chalet and the runners created a path in the meadow. In 2023, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the UTMB, the 40th birthday of Isabelle Fellay and the 80th birthday of a volunteer with a cake.

It’s also better for everyone that, from now on, support crews will only travel by UTMB Buses.

4. DO YOU HAVE ANOTHER JOB YOU’D LIKE TO DO OR DO AGAIN, AND WHY?

During UTMB week I’m lucky enough to be able to do a range of different jobs, so I wouldn’t change a thing. I love sharing the moment with the runners, support crews, and volunteers. There are also times where you find yourself comforting people who have retired or who are suffering a dip in morale.

The Champex-Lac base camp is sometimes quiet, sometimes crowded. By day, by night, in good weather or bad. In the space of a few days, you experience different atmospheres.

Every year, I look forward to UTMB week. And fortunately, a few weeks after the race, we’re lucky enough to be able to meet up again at the volunteers’ evening.

MICAELA RISSO, ITALIAN VOLUNTEER

1. COULD YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?

Ciao! My name is Micaela Risso, I’m 31 years old, I was born and live in Courmayeur. I’m an osteopath with my own practice in La Salle, a small village near Courmayeur. My greatest passion is climbing, and I also love running locally. I started volunteering at the UTMB in 2019 and the same year I started working as a masseuse at the Tor des Géants.

2. WHAT IS THE TITLE OF YOUR VOLUNTEER JOB, AND WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE BEFORE AND DURING THE WEEK OF THE UTMB? WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO THE ORGANISATION OF THE EVENT?

Since 2019 I’ve managed the sweepers who cover the sections of the course on the Italian side.

Before race week I recruit the volunteers, a minimum of 6 for each stage of each race. On the Italian side, we cover the TDS, ETC, YCC, CCC and UTMB races. I organise the groups, the meeting times and I make sure that there are reserves in case anyone is missing!

During the races I coordinate my volunteers, who number around 45 across 4 days. Using a radio, I make sure they are on site at the race starts and I communicate with them during the race if they need help or if a runner wants to retire.

3. WHY IS YOUR ROLE SO IMPORTANT TO THE ORGANISATION OF THE EVENT?

My job is to make sure that all the runners are safe and sound. The sweepers motivate the slower runners, encourage those in need and accompany those who decide to retire to the closest safe spot. I always remind my volunteers of the importance of their work and sometimes they tell me exciting stories of runners who, thanks to their help, manage to cross the finish line!

4. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT A MEMORABLE MOMENT IN YOUR JOB?

There’s no one highlight. Every year it’s a great pleasure to be able to help organise this extraordinary event. Seeing the passionate and happy runners gives me a lot of positive energy. Seeing my volunteers, who often work for hours on end, staying awake all night, sometimes almost carrying tired runners in their arms to the meeting points and then coming back enthusiastic about the experience, is a unique emotion. It is this emotion that makes me want to continue to provide this service.

5. WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT THING ABOUT YOUR ROLE?

The most difficult thing is probably the prerace organization. Finding the volunteers, making sure they understand the course, the time and the meeting points. Once racing is underway, the difficulties are relative.

6. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE WEEK?

My favourite moments are the starts! And if I have to pick just one, it’s the start of the TDS, the first race of the week in Italy, the first thrill of the week, when you really get going and get into the thick of things!

!

7. DO YOU HAVE ANOTHER JOB YOU’D LIKE TO DO OR DO AGAIN, AND WHY?

No, I love my job, and I wouldn’t change it for anything else. I really like the role that the sweepers play, it’s an important one. It allows me to experience unique emotions such as the starts, but also to be able to continue doing my real job, that of osteopath.

JEAN-MICHEL BOUTEILLÉ, FRENCH

VOLUNTEER

1. COULD YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?

My name is Jean-Michel Bouteillé, I’m 63 and I’ve lived in Chamonix for 24 years. I’m retired from the Chamonix town hall (former Director General of Services), and I’ve been volunteering for the UTMB for 20 years now. I enjoy travelling, reading and hiking in the mountains, and I’m also involved in another association, ‘En Passant par la Montagne’. I’ve done quite a lot of voluntary work in different areas throughout my life!

2. WHAT IS THE TITLE OF YOUR VOLUNTEER JOB, AND WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE BEFORE AND DURING THE UTMB WEEK?

During UTMB week I head up the runners’ bag management team. In other words, I’m in charge of taking care of the drop bags for all the races except the PTL. I drop the bags off at the start of the 5 races (MCC, TDS, OCC, CCC and UTMB), transport them to the bases in Beaufort (TDS) and Courmayeur (UTMB) and to the finish in Chamonix. Before the race my job is to prepare the schedules, equipment and logistics alongside the UTMB staff. During the race we prepare everything so that we’re ready at the start of each race, including equipment, vehicles, transport lists, signage... and above all the volunteers! Our team starts preparations on the Saturday before the race and finishes on the Sunday evening after racing ends, and after having received all the runners’ bags.

3. WHY IS YOUR ROLE SO IMPORTANT TO THE ORGANISATION OF THE EVENT?

The runners start early and with extra clothing, which they leave behind at the start. And, more importantly, for the two races with drop bags the runners leave a bag with a clean, dry change of clothes at the start, so that they

can change halfway through the race. They then collect their drop bag again at the finish and very much appreciate having a change of clothes, especially if they have no family or support crew present.

4. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT A MEMORABLE MOMENT IN YOUR JOB?

After 20 years, I have many! Perhaps the most memorable was that of a Spanish runner who thought he had finished when he passed through the arch in Vallorcine! When we realised his mistake, we were able to get him back to Vallorcine where he set off again! We enjoyed seeing him on Sunday evening with his friends – he was very grateful!

I enjoy the contact with the runners and their families at the start and finish, exchanging with athletes from all over the world, cheering them on at the start, seeing them at the finish, asking them how their race went, comforting them if they retire, and also being in contact with the other volunteers and seeing them in Orsières, Martigny, Courmayeur, Beaufort...

I enjoy creating a good atmosphere within my team, making sure that it’s communicated to the athletes, and getting everyone in my group focused on working for the wellbeing of the runners.

5. WHAT’S THE MOST DIFFICULT THING ABOUT THIS JOB DURING UTMB WEEK?

Thinking about everything, not forgetting anything, making sure that all the bags are at the bases or at the finish, that the team of volunteers is in the right place at the right time and that nothing is missing. The pressure of ensuring that the vehicles carrying the drop bags arrive back on time with the volunteers, and in complete safety, despite the difficult timetables and mountain roads between Orsières and Chamonix, or Beaufort and Chamonix, for example!

6. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT OF THE WEEK?

None of them! All of them! Maybe Monday morning, when it starts, and we really get going!

7. DO YOU HAVE ANOTHER JOB YOU’D LIKE TO DO OR DO AGAIN, AND WHY?

Without doubt, a media guide. I know the trails well, so I could take them to the different points along the course, I could support with connecting them with people and showcasing the beautiful landscapes that the event passes through. I could take them to the high-altitude refreshment points to watch a sunset or a sunrise.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENTS

The UTMB has been a signatory of the GESI charter since 2017. This government charter aims to make major international sporting events more environmentally responsible. It includes 15 commitments, which we have pledged to adhere to. These commitments include actions for a more responsible economy, limiting transport, combating discrimination, raising public awareness, and more.

For example, ‘commitment 3’ concerns the reduction of plastic waste.

OBJECTIVE: REDUCE CONSUMPTION OF SINGLE-USE PLASTIC BY 90%.

• Since 2008 plastic cups have been forbidden. All runners must carry their own cup – this rule is written into the mandatory equipment. 50,000 disposable cups avoided.

• In 2018, BYOU (bring your own utensils) was imposed, and each runner must bring their own cutlery. 90,000 plastic utensils avoided.

• 2019, no more bottled water, just plain tap water and sparkling water from carbonated machines. 13,000 plastic bottles avoided.

• 2023, no more plastic bottles, cola is made using carbonated machines. 11,000 cola bottles avoided.

• Today, 70% of Naäk bars are distributed in bulk, single packs of compote have been eliminated, and packaging has been optimized to limit waste.

THE UTMB MONT-BLANC IS COMMITTED YEAR-ROUND WITH THE ENVIRONMENT COMMISSION

What is this? A whole team that takes concrete action to protect the environment in the Mont-Blanc region. Not least by organising trail renovations.

In 2024, these will include:

• Cleaning out the water outlets at the Bertonne refuge.

• Reopening a trail at the Col des Chavannes on the TDS route.

• Creating steps and widening bends on a trail in Les Houches.
