CHRISTIAN ESTROSI
Maire de Nice
MAYOR OF NICE
It is with great pride that we once again prepare to host a new edition of the Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB®, a truly world-class sporting event which, in just four years, has become an essential rendezvous for all who share a passion for trail running and the great outdoors.
Nice, uniquely positioned between the sea and the mountains, offers an extraordinary playground for runners from across the globe. From the peaks of the Mercantour to the shores of the Mediterranean – whether setting off from Auron or Roubion, or following our legendary Riviera from the Col d’Èze or Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat – this UTMB® race is far more than a competition. It is a celebration of endurance, solidarity, pushing personal limits, and respect for our environment.
In a time when our planet faces major challenges, both on land and at sea, great sporting events have an important role to play in raising awareness among participants, the media and the wider public. By showcasing the exceptional beauty of our region – which we must both celebrate and protect – we shine a light on the richness of our natural, cultural and touristic heritage.
In doing so, we continue to affirm our ambitious vision for sport, establishing the Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB® among the great international events that have built the city’s strong reputation in recent years: from the 2023 Rugby World Cup, to last year’s historic Tour de France finish, to the IRONMAN – and soon the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, with Nice set to welcome the ice sports.
To all organisers, volunteers and participants, I extend the warmest of welcomes to Nice and to our magnificent metropolitan region. May this be the stage for an exceptional sporting challenge and a truly unforgettable human adventure.
As we prepare for the 4th edition in Nice, I want to thank all participants for their enthusiasm, which has once again surpassed our expectations this year. Your commitment is an inspiration and reminds us of the responsibility we carry to live up to the trust you place in us.
This event would not be possible without you, nor without the dedication of the more than 800 volunteers who stand alongside the organising team. Together with our partners and the region, we have built a community united by the spirit of surpassing limits – something of which we are immensely proud.
I look forward to sharing this edition with you – a celebration of sport, solidarity and festivity, set between the sea and the mountains, in a landscape unlike any other.

ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY
WASTE MANAGEMENT DURING THE RACE
As organiser, the Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB® has implemented a range of initiatives to help preserve the natural environment and to raise awareness among everyone involved. This collective effort brings together the organising team, local authorities, runners, supporters, partners, service providers and volunteers.
During the Ultra-Trail Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, you will cross the heart of the Mercantour National Park. Here, as everywhere, we ask you to pay special attention to the environment around you. The park has strict regulations designed to protect its flora and fauna. Please remember to respect the following:
• Dogs are not permitted, in order to protect the wildlife.
• Stay on marked paths and keep noise to a minimum to avoid trampling and disturbing animals.
attention à l'environnement qui vous entoure. Le parc impose un règlement spécifique pour protéger sa faune et sa flore, et vous trouverez ci-dessous un rappel de quelques consignes à respecter :
• Do not pick flowers or plants so that everyone can enjoy them.
nʼemmenons pas notre chien pour la tranquillité de la faune;
• Drones and other noisy flying devices are not allowed, as they disturb the wildlife.
restons sur les chemins et évitons le bruit afin de limiter le piétinement et le dérangement de la faune et des autres usagers;
• Leave no trace: take all your litter with you to help keep the area clean.
ne cueillons ni les fleurs, ni les plantes pour permettre à tous de les admirer;
• Camping and fires are prohibited.
n'utilisons pas de drône ou tout autre objet volant bruyant qui pourrait déranger la faune;
remportons nos déchets pour conserver la propreté des lieux;
Less plastic, less waste. Runners, supporters, volunteers and organisers – everyone is called on to act as responsibly as possible.
To reduce plastic consumption and limit the event’s carbon impact, the organisation does not provide any single-use tableware (cutlery, cups, bowls) at the aid stations. Each runner is therefore asked to bring their own cutlery if they wish to eat at the aid stations.

In addition, each runner will receive a small rubbish bag when collecting their race bib. This bag is intended for used toilet paper and soiled waste such as empty gel packets or cling film that has contained food. Runners must carry their waste with them between aid stations, including fruit peels. Dedicated bins are available at every aid station to allow proper sorting. The final bin is located around 100m after each station and will be clearly signposted.
Runners are also encouraged to use rechargeable batteries. If this is not possible, used batteries must be kept and disposed of in the special containers provided at the aid stations or at the finish line.
CHARITY BIBS
Since the creation of the UTMB® World Series – and in particular the Trail Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB® – we have been committed to uniting the energy of our events with a spirit of solidarity. At the heart of the Mercantour massif, we are guided by the desire to help each runner achieve their own victories.
Alongside the Charity Bibs, the UTMB® Cares endowment fund supports local associations. At the time of registration, every runner has the opportunity to make a donation.
For 2025, the following projects have been selected:
•Mission Trekkeurs – supporting military veterans through trekking and outdoor activities.
•Solidarité 06 – providing social aid and emergency relief across the Alpes-Maritimes region
All donations will be shared equally between these two associations.

WOMEN IN TRAIL
To strengthen equity and flexibility for women in trail running, the UTMB® World Series has introduced a range of tailored measures to ensure its races meet the specific needs of female athletes, offering services that make participation and the overall experience more accessible and supportive.
At the Trail Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB®, these include:
• Free menstrual products and personal hygiene items available at all aid stations.
• Separate and adapted facilities, including WCs and changing areas for men and women, to ensure a respectful and comfortable environment.
• A dedicated female contact within the organising team.
• A women-only WhatsApp group, created to share questions before, during and after the race, as well as about the event more broadly. This channel is dedicated to mutual support and encouragement.
UTMB Group has also introduced a Children Welcome Policy across all UTMB® World Series events. This flexible, supportive policy applies to pregnant athletes, athletes whose partner is pregnant, and those undergoing adoption or surrogacy procedures.

GETTING AROUND NICE
At the heart of the event, with its Ultra-Trail® Village and the finish line for all races on the iconic Promenade des Anglais, Nice welcomes you with open arms to experience the Mediterranean at its finest.
GETTING AROUND AURON & ROUBION
Auron, once the granary of Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée, is a former alpine village in the Haut Pays Niçois that has grown into a vibrant year-round resort in the heart of the Mercantour massif.
Roubion overlooks the Tinée Valley and stretches towards the Mercantour high pastures at the foot of Mont Mounier. Together, these two mountain villages – hosts of the 100M and 100K starts – form a gateway to Nice’s hinterland and the Mercantour massif, offering breathtaking contrasts between rugged rocky landscapes and verdant alpine meadows.
GETTING AROUND EZE
A charming hilltop village located on the Corniche Park, Èze stretches over steep terrain, from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea where a hamlet forms Èze-sur-Mer, up to the rocky peak where old picturesque medieval houses make up Èze-Village at 429 meters above sea level.
The Col d’Èze, well-known for having been crossed many times by the Tour de France, reaches an altitude of 507 meters. A village with irresistible charm and a breathtaking view over the Mediterranean.
GETTING AROUND
SAINT-JEAN-CAP-FERRAT
Nestled between Nice and Menton, the coastal peninsula of SaintJean-Cap-Ferrat offers a setting like no other. Here, runners set off on the 20K, in a spectacular start between land and sea.
SHUTTLES TO THE START
The organisers of the Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB® are committed to reducing the environmental impact of the event wherever possible. To limit the use of individual cars, transport shuttles have been put in place.
Runners and supporters are strongly encouraged to use the official shuttles to reach the starts of the 100M and 100K, or the train to access Menton and Saint-Jean-CapFerrat.
Supporters of the 100M and 100K will also be able to follow their runner at several points along the course.
Booking is mandatory to use the shuttles.
SHUTTLE BUSES DEPART FOR THE 4 RACES
FOLLOW THE RACE AS A SUPPORTER
For the 20K, three TER trains will take you from Nice to the start:
• Departure from Nice at 05:50, arrival in BeauPlace at 06:00
• Departure from Nice at 06:51, arrival in BeauPlace at 07:01
• Departure from Nice at 07:04, arrival in BeauPlace at 07:14
From BeauPlace station, allow around 20 minutes on foot along a coastal trail to reach the start line in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.
PLAN DE TRANSPORT
The organisers of the Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB® are committed to reducing the environmental impact of the event as much as possible. To support this goal, dedicated transport shuttles have been put in place.
RESERVATIONS ARE MANDATORY VIA YOUR MY UTMB® ACCOUNT TO USE THE SHUTTLES.
The journey times shown in the diagram refer to spectator access for following the race. Detailed travel times for reaching the various start lines are provided in the table below.
SECURITY
ENVIRONMENT & WEATHER
The Nice Côte d’Azur by UTMB® races take place in mountainous terrain, often passing through remote areas without telecommunications. Weather conditions can change rapidly and may include snow, hail, fog, high heat (above 30°C), intense cold (below -10°C), or strong winds.
On-course safety advice:
•Do not stop on exposed summits.
•If you cannot see a waymarker, turn back and return to the previous marker.
•Always remain on the marked trails.
EQUIPMENT
Some common-sense reminders for dealing with challenging weather conditions:
Prepare for both cold and extreme heat.
•Don’t wait until you are shivering to put on an extra layer.
•Avoid changing clothes in exposed, windy areas – anticipate or wait until you are sheltered.
•Protect yourself from the sun.
Walking poles : Be mindful when using poles, especially at the start of the race when the density of runners is high. Do not use wrist straps on descents: in the event of a fall, they prevent your hands from being used to protect yourself and can lead to injuries to the shoulders, wrists, forearms, or even the head.
NUTRITION & HYDRATION
Hydration and energy intake should always be adapted to the weather conditions and supplemented with salt throughout your effort. Maintain a balanced mix of slow- and fast-release sugars to support sustained performance.
FATIGUE & ALERTNESS
Rest areas are available at aid stations where you can take a short sleep if needed. It is dangerous to stop and sleep alone in open country. Fatigue and reduced alertness can easily lead to accidents. Run within your limits – especially in the early stages – and conserve your energy for later, when you may encounter more difficult situations such as sudden changes in weather conditions.
MANDATORY PERSONAL INSURANCE
To start your race with complete peace of mind, please remember that you must hold personal accident insurance covering any search and rescue costs in France. Each year, some runners arrive without sufficient cover. This insurance can be taken out with the provider of your choice.
Since 2022, the UTMB Group has also offered its own repatriation insurance, which can be taken out here: https://utmb.assurinco.com/
LIVETRAIL
The LiveTrail® app is an essential tool for your safety, while also providing invaluable race information, including real-time tracking of your progress and that of your friends. In the event of an SOS, the app allows you to send your GPS position directly to the organisers – saving precious time in emergency situations. Please note, however, that this does not replace a call to Race HQ.
A mobile phone is mandatory during the race, with international roaming activated and the battery charged. Do not put your phone in aeroplane mode at any time, as the organisation must be able to contact you before, during, and after the race. For runners expected to spend more than 15 hours on the trail, carrying an external
battery is strongly recommended.
Please also check that the emergency number you have provided belongs to the person in your entourage who should be alerted in the event of a problem. Important: to ensure faster assistance in case of an incident, make sure you have entered your contact number for the duration of the race in your My UTMB® account. This can be updated up until the start of your race.

PLEASE NOTE : there will be no parking available at the start. Access is strictly by train and/or on foot.
RACE BIBS
RACE REGULATIONS
Bib collection will take place in Nice.
To collect your bib, you must appear in person with: - A valid photo ID
- Your race pack, so that the timing chip can be attached
Mandatory equipment may be checked by authorised volunteers at this time. Each bib is handed individually to the runner, who must present their own photo ID in person to collect it.
Your bib must be worn on the chest or stomach and remain fully visible at all times during the race. It may not be folded or cut.
Your bib is your pass to access shuttles, buses, aid stations, medical points, rest areas, and the drop-bag facilities. The bib must remain in place for the entire race. In the event of withdrawal, it will be deactivated by a member of the organisation.
REUSABLE CUP
Designed to avoid the waste of disposable cups throughout the race, each runner must provide their own, with a minimum capacity of 15cl. PLEASE BE AWARE, gourds/water bottles or water flasks with screw/clip top are not accepted as cups!
«BRING YOUR OWN UTENSILS»
The organisation will not provide disposable cutlery, cups, or bowls at aid stations. If you wish to eat hot food (e.g. soup, pasta), you must carry your own utensils.
BYOU
DROP BAGS
Each runner is allowed one drop bag, available at Levens.
During the race, it is mandatory to collect your bag at Levens and then return it to the designated area before leaving, so that it can be transported back to Nice.
Walking poles, fragile items, and valuables must not be placed in these bags. Only bags supplied by the organisation will be accepted.
Please note: repatriation times may vary due to logistical
constraints. Bags may be returned after the runner finishes, particularly in the case of an early withdrawal. Thank you for your patience and for respecting the work of the volunteers.
SPONSORED?
That’s great if you are! However, sponsor visibility is limited to your clothing and the equipment you use during the race. Flags, banners, or other promotional displays are not permitted.
TIMING & CONTROLS
Each runner will be issued with two electronic timing chips and a wristband. Some checkpoints will be recorded automatically, others manually. Random checks will also be carried out by the organisation.
Runners must carry their chips and wristband at all times. Failure to do so will result in a penalty.
ENVIRONMENT
Help us preserve the natural surroundings: do not drop litter along the race route. We all share the responsibility of keeping our playground clean. Leave no trace.
Carry a small bag to collect your waste between two bin points, and make sure to dispose of it in the designated containers.
RESPECTING THE REGULATIONS AND THE RACE STEWARDS
As in previous years, volunteers are there to support you, but also to ensure that the regulations are respected. Among them are the Race Stewards, some of whom are authorised to apply real-time penalties if the regulations are not followed.
It is important to understand that penalties imposed during the race require runners to stop and serve their time before continuing. For the leaders, this could mean losing positions in the ranking; for those further back, it may even result in missing the next cut-off time.
Race Stewards are also authorised to check your obligatory equipment both at the start and at any point along the course. Missing any item of the mandatory safety kit (e.g. minimum 1L water reserve, waterproof jacket with hood, headlamp, survival blanket, or mobile phone) will result in immediate disqualification.
For full details of the penalties, please consult the complete Regulations at nice.utmb.world. In exceptional cases, penalties will be decided jointly with the Race Directors.avec la direction de course.
AID STATIONS
Access to aid stations is strictly reserved for runners wearing their race bib visibly on the chest or stomach, together with their wristband and timing chip attached to their rucksack.
At all stations, the organisers provide still water and energy drinks for filling bottles or hydration packs. Other drinks are available but must be consumed on site.
Three types of aid stations are provided along the course:
- Drinks only: still water, sparkling water, Näak Ultra Energy drink, cola, coffee, tea, vermicelli soup.
- Full aid station: drinks (as above) plus cereal or energy bars, Näak Ultra Energy bars and waffles, sweet cakes, chocolate, bananas, oranges, sultanas, savoury biscuits, cheese, sausage, bread.
- Finish line: a full post-race meal will be served in Nice.
CUT-OFF TIMES
Cut-off times are set to allow participants to reach the finish within the maximum time limit. They are indicated in the official race documents.
The cut-off time shown corresponds to the latest time by which runners must leave the checkpoint. For safety reasons, organisers may adjust these times; any changes will be communicated by SMS and/or email.
No runner may continue beyond a checkpoint once the sweepers have passed.
COURSE MARKINGS
For better visibility at night, course markers are fitted with a yellow reflective section that catches the light from your headlamp.
CAUTION: If you can no longer see any markers, turn back to the last one you passed.
Out of respect for the environment, no paint is used on the trails.
WITHDRAWALSS
Unless injured, runners may only withdraw at a checkpoint. In all cases, you MUST inform the checkpoint manager, who will permanently cancel your race bib and collect your timing chip.
The cancelled bib must be kept, as it remains your access pass to the shuttles, buses, meals, and medical or rest areas. Repatriation is organised in consultation with the checkpoint manager, according to the following rules:
- Designated checkpoints: At certain aid stations marked with a “bus” pictogram on the runners’ timetable, shuttle buses will be available to transport withdrawn runners back to Nice.
- Other checkpoints: If you withdraw at an aid station without repatriation facilities, and your condition does not require evacuation, you must make your own way as quickly as possible to the nearest repatriation point.
- Between checkpoints: If you withdraw between two checkpoints, you must return to the previous checkpoint and declare your withdrawal to the manager there. If you meet the sweepers en route, they will cancel your bib, and from that moment you will be outside the responsibility of the organisation.
New: For improved monitoring, you can also declare your withdrawal through the LiveTrail® app. However, the official withdrawal procedure described above still applies.
REPATRIATION
The organisation does not provide repatriation by car or 4x4, except in cases of medical necessity and on the decision of the Medical Officer or Checkpoint Manager. Runners who withdraw at a mountain checkpoint must return as quickly as possible, and by their own means, to the nearest repatriation point where the organisation’s shuttle buses are available.
SHOWERS
Hot showers are available only at the finish. Along the course, showers may be authorised solely on medical advice.
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
WHY MANDATORY EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED
In September, it can be very hot (over 30°C), but it can also be very cold (down to -10°C with windchill above 2000m), with rain, hail, or even snow. Your equipment must allow you to face all types of conditions and to be able to spend one or two nights on the course, depending on your pace.
In case of an incident, your equipment must also allow you to wait for rescue in safe enough conditions.
You must have the mandatory equipment with you at all times under penalty of sanction. Checks are carried out during the race, just before the start, and until the finish line. It is important to note that the equipment required by the organizer is a vital minimum that each runner must adapt to their own abilities. We strongly advise you to test it during training runs in varied conditions and to bring everything that you will find useful and necessary.
ACTIVATION OF ADDITIONAL KITS DEPENDING ON WEATHER CONDITIONS
The “heatwave” and “bad weather” kits are an integral part of the mandatory equipment. Depending on weather conditions, the organizer may activate a kit and will inform each participant before bib distribution opens. Each participant must then present their mandatory equipment, including the kit activated by the organizer, to collect their bib.
Choose clothing that truly provides good protection in the mountains against cold, wind, and snow, ensuring both better safety and performance. All clothing must be your size and unmodified after leaving the factory. You must carry this equipment in a bag, which will be marked at bib distribution and cannot be exchanged during the race.
