PRESS KIT 2025 edition

EDITORIAL

The Région Grand Est is proud to renew its commitment to the 3rd edition of the Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB, taking place from May 15 to 18, 2025.

For four days, the Région Grand Est with its Vosges mountains, picturesque villages, and Alsatian castles will be a fantastic playground for trail running enthusiasts.

With five race distances ranging from 158 km for the longest to 17 km for the shortest, runners will find challenges that match their personal goals and will experience a unique journey of physical and mental endurance through the forests and vineyards of Alsace.

Beyond athletic performance, taking part in a trail race is also a special opportunity to discover a region its landscapes, charming places, and hidden, well-preserved panoramas.

I would like to congratulate all the participants taking on this sporting adventure, as well as the organizers and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make this third edition a success. Their dedication and commitment are truly remarkable, and it is thanks to them that the Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB continues to grow and shine throughout the Région.

On behalf of the Région Grand Est, I wish you all an excellent race and offer my warmest encouragement. May this event be marked by achievement, camaraderie, and enjoyment!

Happy trails to all of you!

« As we approach this 3rd edition in Alsace, I want to thank all the participants for their enthusiasm, which has once again exceeded our expectations this year. Your motivation is an honor for us and pushes us to continually live up to the trust you place in us. This event wouldn’t be possible without you and without the dedication of the more than 800 volunteers working alongside the organizing team. Together, with our partners and the territory, we’ve created a true community united by the spirit of pushing boundaries and we’re incredibly proud of that. I’m truly looking forward to sharing this event with you, full of sport, solidarity, and celebration, in the heart of such a unique Région.»

Isabelle Viseux-Poletti

« Each edition of the Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB is a unique adventure a story of passion and perseverance that is rewritten year after year. From May 16 to 18, 2025, we invite you to experience a new epic journey on the Alsatian trails, between vineyards and mountains, where every step creates memories, and every climb reveals the greatness of effort.

Organizing an event of this scale requires that inner flame the drive that pushes us to go further. We know trail running is much more than a race; it’s a personal quest, a journey where the unexpected blends with emotion, where every challenge becomes an opportunity to grow. Here, victory isn’t measured only by the stopwatch, but by the intensity of shared moments, by the satisfaction of crossing the finish arch after braving the distance and demanding terrain. The Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB is, above all, a collective adventure where runners, volunteers, partners, and organizers come together to create an unforgettable experience.

May this 3rd edition be the stage for your achievements, a reflection of your determination, and a witness to your most powerful emotions. We can’t wait to see you at the starting line, to hear your footsteps echo along these exceptional trails, and to share this incredible journey with you. »

EXTRA-ORDINARY RUNNERS

FROM ALSACE

ANNE-SOPHIE

Entered in the 100M.

A passion shared with her father

A 26-year-old veterinarian from Pulversheim, AnneSophie is about to take on a major challenge: her first 100M at the Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB, alongside her father. She will be the youngest participant in this edition.

Anne-Sophie discovered trail running nearly 8 years ago when she arrived at veterinary school in Lyon, after running on the road since her teenage years.

Addicted to endorphins, she gradually increased the distances, sharing every race with her father a former smoker turned ultra-runner. While they’ll start together in Alsace, each will run at their own pace before meeting again at the finish line.

MARIANNE

Entered in the 100M.

A devoted mother, above all a passionate runner

A 55-year-old from Alsace and mother of six, she juggles her seasonal job with her passion for trail running.

This first by UTMB race, taking place “at home,” marks a key milestone for both of them as they set their sights on the Diagonale des Fous their big goal for the year. Despite missing out in the first lottery draw, they remain hopeful and plan to try again in the coming weeks. In the meantime, AnneSophie balances ski touring, long runs, and structured training with her father to be ready for race day.

For her, trail running is above all an escape a simple and powerful way to clear her mind before taking on ever more ambitious challenges.

Active since her teenage years, she returned to running once her children were older, gradually trading her bike for trail running. This year, she’s taking on her third 100M at the Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB a distance she knows well, having already tackled even greater challenges, such as a 200 km race in the Vosges and a 250 km at the Eiger Ultra Trail by UTMB. Despite tough weather conditions at times, she has always crossed the finish line, adapting to each challenge with determination. Her rigorous training including long runs in the forest with her two White Swiss Shepherds and, above all, her supportive and understanding husband, allow her to balance her passion with a busy family life.

Her goal for this edition: to improve her time from last year, while managing sleep deprivation. For her, trail running is much more than a sport it’s a deep connection with nature, a personal challenge, and a source of meaningful encounters. At the finish line, her family is always there to welcome her a powerful symbol of the support that follows her through every adventure.

EXTRA-ORDINARY RUNNERS FROM ALSACE

LOUIS

Entered in the 100M.

A big leap into the world of ultras

At 20 years old, Louis, a student in economics and management in Strasbourg, is about to take on a major challenge: his very first 100M at the Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB. He will be the youngest participant in this edition.

Originally from Lampertsloch, Louis discovered trail running in 2020 almost by chance while running on Alsatian paths during lockdown. After completing his first 50 km in April 2024 and a 75 km in October, he decided to skip the 100 km step altogether and go straight for the ultra. Training solo, he runs over 100 km per week and fine-tunes his preparation with long outings in the Vosges. Though he’s never run at night before, he’s counting on race-day adrenaline to carry him through the unknown.

Supported by loved ones for assistance, he hopes to complete the race in under 24 to 26 hours. This challenge marks the end of a chapter: after three years of balancing studies and trail running, he’s considering slowing down and exploring other disciplines though he knows he’ll return to ultras one day.

SERGE

Entered in the 100M.

A passionate runner ready to take on his first 100M Serge, a 59-year-old from Alsace, works in sales and is a father of two. He discovered running at the age of 21.

After the 50K in 2023 and the 100K in 2024, he’s now preparing to run his first 100M at the Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB a special race for him, as the course passes right in front of his home. Currently recovering from an injury, he’s had to adapt his training by incorporating night sessions and power hiking a tough shift for a runner at heart. A member of a running club for over 20 years, he’s training seriously, though the fear of time cutoffs still lingers in the back of his mind.

His family is a key source of support: his wife, also a runner but not a trail enthusiast, will be volunteering at the event; his younger daughter, who ran the 20K last year; and his young son will also be there to cheer him on. His goal is simple: to finish the race, drawing on the lessons he learned last year especially when it comes to managing the night and the unexpected.
