RECLAIMING OUR CITY STREETS

MLK COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP AND MURAL PROJECT

The Mural Project was led by local artist Jaleel Wimbush and his team.

On Martin Luther King Jr Day, our community came together for a day of service and unity. Volunteers of all ages gathered to participate in a community clean-up event, taking to the streets armed with trash bags and gloves, determined to beautify our City. Amidst laughter and camaraderie, we worked side by side, inspired by Dr King's message of love and solidarity As the day progressed, our efforts created a colorful community mural. With spray paint in hand, residents adorned the once-barren wall with color.

This mural now represents our collective spirit and commitment to building a brighter future, honoring Dr King's legacy in our hearts and streets

Residents actively engaged in the Open House Event and shared their insights on how the trail system impacts and connects the community This collaborative discussion underscores the City's commitment to inclusivity and ensures that the Union Station Greenline authentically represents the diverse needs and aspirations of Union City's populace.

HWY 29 BALLFIELDS RENOVATIONS BEGINNING THIS SPRING

EXCITING IMPROVEMENTS ARE COMING TO THE BALLFIELDS

The primary goal of this project is to enhance the community experience by introducing state-of-theart artificial turf, emphasizing the City's commitment to environmental sustainability and water conservation. The renovation, spanning 9-12 months and set to begin bidding in early spring, signifies a crucial step towards realizing these improvements While temporary adjustments may be necessary during construction, we assure residents that the outcome will testify to collective patience and investment.

Access to other facilities within the Highway 29 Ballfields, such as the skatepark, volleyball courts, chess, and outdoor fitness equipment, will be maintained throughout the process. This ensures uninterrupted enjoyment of alternative spaces for recreation while transformative changes are underway Alongside artificial turf installation, the project includes various infrastructure enhancements, including a walking trail, to provide a more contemporary and enjoyable recreational experience. Construction will consist of a 10' wide trail with landscaping connecting the Eagles Nest Sports Complex to the existing trail at Ronald Bridges Park. This part of the project aligns with the Multi-Use Trail Master Plan, which connects one end of the City to the other.

We appreciate the community's understanding and patience during the construction phase, and we are confident that the result will be a recreational space in which the community can take pride. For inquiries, please contact Lee Blitch, Director of Parks and Recreation, at (770) 892-6288.
