PARDON OUR PROGRESS: UNION CITY'S 2025 STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS
PROGRESS, RECOGNITION, AND A CLEAR PATH FORWARD
Union City’s 2025 State of the City Address, hosted at Banneker High School, offered a powerful look at a City deeply committed to growth, resilience, and innovation. Residents, business leaders, and community partners filled the auditorium to hear Mayor Vince Williams outline a year of remarkable achievements and ambitious plans for the future.
The Mayor emphasized that Union City is not simply expanding. It is transforming with purpose and heart. Major revitalization projects launched in 2024 are already reshaping neighborhoods, modernizing infrastructure, and improving the lives of residents. These efforts earned Union City the prestigious 2025 Visionary City Award from the Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia Trend magazine, a recognition that places the city among the most forward-thinking communities in the state.
A major highlight of the year was the completion of the Eagles Nest Sports Complex, an innovative facility that redefines recreation and community wellness in Union City. However, progress was not limited to parks and green spaces. Union City expanded its educational and cultural offerings, introducing cybersecurity training programs, adding new art classes in painting and pottery, and enhancing access to digital resources for residents.
To better serve a growing and increasingly connected population, the city launched a redesigned official website, improving accessibility and user experience for everyone seeking services, information, and community updates
The Mayor also celebrated a series of financial milestones that reflect Union City's strong stewardship of public funds. The Finance Department secured the city's highest-ever credit rating in 2024, helped balance the budget, and obtained over $12 million in grant funding. This financial success was further recognized through a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association.
Looking forward, Union City is positioning itself to strengthen its economy, support small businesses, attract strategic investments, and further improve public services. The Mayor closed his address by reminding residents that Union City's future is not just about numbers or development projects. It is about building a community where progress is measured by the quality of life, the strength of partnerships, and the spirit of unity that defines the city.
The 2025 State of the City Address served as both a reflection on Union City's impressive journey and a bold call to action for an even brighter future.

GRADY EMERGENCY HEALTHCARE FACILITY: GROUNDBREAKING A HEALTHIER FUTURE FOR UNION CITY
EXPANDED ACCESS TO LIFE-SAVING CARE COMES CLOSER TO HOME
Union City marked a historic day with the groundbreaking of Grady Health System’s new freestanding emergency healthcare facility. This project represents a critical step in expanding access to emergency medical services for the rapidly growing communities of South Fulton County.
The future facility, located at 5600 Campbellton Fairburn Road, will span 20,000 square feet and offer 24-hour emergency care for both adult and pediatric patients. The new center will significantly reduce the time Union City and nearby residents currently spend traveling to receive urgent care, addressing a major need in the region.
Designed with the latest advancements in medical technology, the facility will include 16 patient bays, imaging and diagnostic services, laboratory facilities, a pharmacy, and a helipad for emergency air transfers to area hospitals. These features are carefully planned to ensure that patients receive fast, high-quality care when they need it most.
The ceremony brought together Mayor and Council. Fulton County and Grady Officials were joined by Governor Brian Kemp, First Lady Mandy Kemp, along with dozens of community leader and members, all celebrating a partnership that will bring lifesaving resources closer to home. The facility is expected to serve thousands of residents who have long needed more convenient access to emergency services.
The development of the Grady Emergency Center reflects a broader understanding that quality healthcare must be accessible and immediate, especially in a growing metropolitan area. As Union City continues to welcome new families, businesses, and opportunities, it is also making critical investments in essential services that ensure the well-being of every resident.
The new Grady facility is projected to open in Fall 2026. When complete, it will stand not only as a state-of-the-art medical center but as a promise fulfilled a commitment to building a healthier, stronger Union City for today and for generations to come.
