“As part of my dual degree program, I got an opportunity to intern at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. I worked on a collaborative research project with Dr. Manzoor Koyakutty from Amrita Nanosciences center and Dr. Janko Nikolich-Zugrich from UArizona’s Department of Immunobiology.
During my internship in Arizona, I gained more than just a degree, I made amazing friends from all over the world. I had an opportunity to stay with one of my lab members, tasted different cuisines, learned about multiple cultures, and experienced life in an American family. Despite being 8750 miles away from home, I felt at home.”

“I teach the Foundations Writing classes (English 107 & 108) that most students take in their first year at the university. I strive to make each class an enjoyable experience and I remind students that, even though they are studying at home, our class is still a class–they have classmates who are working alongside them and and to whom they can reach out. By the end of the class, I hope that my students will see academic writing as something more approachable, something that they themselves can accomplish. I feel fantastically lucky to be able to teach these classes. I get to meet people from all over the world and help them find their way as students in our university.”

“I decided to enroll with International Direct because I wanted a better idea of the University of Arizona before I moved to the U.S. for further education. I think the faculty teaching in the International Direct program did a great job. The International Direct staff was also very helpful in telling me everything I needed to know about Tucson, the campus, dorms and studying here–they prepared me well for my transition to the main campus.”

“As a computer science major, I am also interested in how the rapid scientific advancement can and will affect our lives. I think that policies regarding technological development are also very important compared to actual technological developments. For a student with a STEM background, I was able to learn the importance of understanding the implications of technology in making policies and informed decisions. I think the Science Policy and Diplomacy course made me realize that as technology advances, the policies regarding the technology keep pace. This was such a good opportunity for me to understand the dynamics of policy making and diplomacy regarding technology.”
