Welcome and Introduction
JP Jones
Dean of International Education, Arizona International
John Paul “JP” Jones III (Ph.D. Ohio State University) is Dean of International Education at the University of Arizona. He is also Professor in the School of Geography, Development, and Environment in the university’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. At Arizona International, Jones has deepened the university’s strategic partnerships by further developing its pioneering Microcampus network. Before joining Arizona International, Jones served for over a dozen years as the Don Bennett Moon Dean for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. He has authored over 100 articles and book chapters and in 2015, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from his professional organization, the American Association of Geographers.

Jenny Lee
Incoming Vice President of Arizona International and Dean of International Education
Jenny Lee is a Professor of Educational Policy Studies and Practice at the Center for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Arizona’s College of Education. She is the incoming Vice President, Arizona International, and Dean of International Education. An award-winning scholar in the field of international education, Dr. Lee’s research examines how migration policies, geopolitics, and socio-economic forces shape inequities in higher education, in the US and abroad.

Justin Dutram is Assistant Vice President for Mexico and Latin America in the Office of International Education at the University of Arizona. In this role, Dutram is responsible for the development and management of relationships in higher education, government, and the private sector in Mexico and Latin America for the University of Arizona.

Yamuna Sithambalam is an Assistant Professor of Business and Chair of the Business Department at the American University of Phnom Penh. As a passionate advocate for sustainable business practices, she is committed to educating and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs to build environmentally conscious and socially responsible businesses. Her current research focuses on social and sustainable entrepreneurship models with a particular focus on business and the environment.
Edward Roekaert
President, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias
Edward Roekaert is President of UPC since 2014. He is a WASC accreditation Commissioner in the United States, President of Metared-IT Peru, and Board Member of Casa Andina Hotels and Universia-Peru. Roekaert holds a Doctoral degree in Hotel and Tourism Management from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He also has Master’s degrees in Hotel Administration and Industrial Engineering & Operations Research from Cornell University.
Marshall Schott
President, Sampoerna University
Marshall Schott is the President of Sampoerna University in Jakarta, Indonesia. Previously he served as Deputy COO and Chief Academic Officer of Sampoerna Schools System where he led efforts to create an integrated system of schools from PK to University in Indonesia. Before joining the PSF, he spent approximately 20 years in executive leadership positions at the University of Houston System. Schott holds a Ph.D. in History from Louisiana State University.
Vinita Tripathi
Head of Education and Research, South Asia, Arizona International
Vinita Tripathi has a master’s degree in Geography and a second master’s in Environment Planning. Vinita has worked for over 23 years in international education and has extensive experience in higher education management. Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Vinita served as the Director of Middlebury School in India. Earlier, she worked at the US-India Educational Foundation (USIEF), managing Fulbright grants, and also at the India office of the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Ming Yu
Associate Dean, Law, Ocean University
Ming Yu is the Deputy Dean and Associate Professor at Law School of Ocean University of China. Ming is a graduate of Ocean University of China Law School (2009). Ming is chair and member of many research projects and programs, and also author of more than 10 articles and/or books on a wide range of environmental law, regional ocean governance law, marine environmental protection law, water law, and water pollution prevention law.

Senior Director, International Education, Arizona International
Rachael Hessenflow joined the University of Arizona in 2016 and oversees the student support services for the microcampuses. Her passion for international education began after a semester in Spain (2007) and working as a Peer Advisor at the University of Missouri. After graduating with her BS in Business Administration, Rachael returned to Spain to teach English for a year. Rachael earned an MA from SUNY Stony Brook in 2015 and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 2023.
Katelyn Maragi
Assistant Director, Arizona International
Katelyn Maragi assists students with the application, enrollment, and graduation processes at global dual degree-granting locations. Prior to joining the International Education team, Katelyn worked for International Admissions at the University of Arizona as an Admissions Evaluator. She also tutored international students at UArizona’s C.A.T.S. Academics while she earned her MA in Library and Information Science. She earned her BS in History from Illinois State University.

Dong Chen
Graduate Research Assistant, Arizona International
Dong Chen is a Graduate Research Assistant at Arizona International, pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education under the supervision of Dr. Jenny J Lee. At Arizona International, Dong designs and distributes microcampus student exit surveys, analyzes data, and writes reports. Dong earned a Master’s degree in Global Higher Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked as a Program Coordinator for UW-Madison International Student Services.
Truong Vu
Location Manager, Ho Chi Minh City, Arizona International Truong Vu is a Chemical Engineering graduate specializing in Food Technology from VNU-HCM. With a Master’s in Public Policy from Fulbright University Vietnam, he has a decade of experience at various NGOs in Vietnam and internationally. Passionate about education and sustainable development, he conducts research on water management and climate change in the Mekong Delta Region. Currently, Truong serves as the Location Manager for Arizona International, supporting the establishment of a dual-degree program in Law for Ho Chi Minh University of Law.
Jian Zhou
Dean, Hebei University of Technology
Jian Zhou is a Professor of Construction Materials and the Founding Dean of Arizona College of Technology at Hebei University of Technology. He received his BSc in Civil Engineering from Shandong University, China in 2004 and his MSc and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology in 2006 and 2011, respectively. After he worked in the cement industry at Sinoma Engineering Co., Ltd. in Beijing for 6 years, he joined Hebei University of Technology in 2017.

Thuy Nguyen
Location Manager, Phnom Penh, Arizona International
Thuy Nguyen has been the Location Manager at University of Arizona, Phnom Penh, Cambodia since 2020. Prior to Arizona International, Thuy worked with youth from many different regions such as America, Europe, and Asia, with the Southeast Asia being her favorite. Thuy has also worked with students in a variety of programs including study abroad, student exchange, and volunteer programs. Thuy received her Master’s Degree in International Education from SIT Graduate Institute in Vermont, U.S.A.

Mike Staten is the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Arizona College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. From 2007 to 2017, he also served as director of the UArizona Take Charge America Institute for Consumer Financial Education and Research. Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Staten held faculty positions at the University of Delaware, Purdue University’s Krannert Graduate School of Management, and Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
Melody Buckner
Associate Vice Provost for Digital Learning and Online Initiatives, University of Arizona
Melody Buckner is the Associate Vice Provost of Digital Learning and Online Initiatives. She collaborates with university leaders, faculty, and academic staff to articulate the implementation of online education and assist in defining the institutional values for digital learning to align with the University’s mission. Her faculty appointment is with the College of Education. She conducts research and teaching in the areas of educational technology, digital and creative literacies, and multicultural education. Her degrees include Architecture, Educational Technology, and Language, Reading, and Culture.

David Moser
Dean and Professor of Law and Global Affairs, American University of Phnom Penh
David Moser is a Professor of Law and Dean of Law & Global Affairs at American University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia as well as a Professor of Practice for the University of Arizona. Moser has also taught at universities in China and the United States. He was also a practicing attorney working primarily in intellectual property and entertainment law and is a co-author of Music Copyright Law.
Matthew Hashim
Associate Professor, Eller College of Management, University of Arizona
Matthew Hashim has served as a faculty member in the Eller College of Management since arriving in Arizona in 2011. He is an Eller Fellow and is a research-active Associate Professor of Management Information Systems. He completed his Ph.D. in Management with a specialization in MIS from the Krannert School of Management, Purdue University. Hashim’s teaching and research efforts have resulted in multiple awards and recognition by the college, students, and academia.
Desyarti Safarina
Director, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Sampoerna University
Desyarti Safarini is the Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at Sampoerna University. She is now a Doctoral Candidate at the Graduate School of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Her dissertation research topic concerns students’ cognitive development in learning calculus derivatives. With a passion for transforming education, Desyarti spearheads initiatives to empower educators to become excellent in teaching.
Kevin Scriber II
Global Professor, Environmental Science, University of Arizona
Kevin Scriber, II is an evolutionary biologist and ecologist teaching statistical analyses, scientific writing, and Ecotoxicology at the University of Arizona micro-campus in Yangljng, Shaanxi, China; in conjunction with the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University.

Enhancing Multidirectional Student Mobility
Moderator: Hillary Vance
Assistant Dean, International Education, Arizona International
Hillary Vance is the Assistant Dean for International Education Academic Affairs and the Assistant Vice President for South & Southeast Asia at the University of Arizona. Her work involves developing and managing international higher education partnerships including the five UArizona microcampuses across South and Southeast Asia. Hillary earned her bachelor’s degree at Rutgers University, her master’s degree at Lehigh University, and her Ph.D. in Higher Education at the University of Arizona, with a focus on transnational higher education in Cambodia. She spent several years in Cambodia working for an NGO and later launching the UArizona microcampuses in Southeast Asia.
Rudo Sandy
Senior Associate Director, International Education, Arizona International
Rudo Sandy holds a Bachelor’s in French and English from the University of Botswana and a Master’s in Politics of Democracy from Oxford Brookes University. Prior to UArizona, Rudo worked internationally in the areas of human rights and development at the Open Society Foundation. She has vast experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds and has traveled to over 45 countries on programs largely pertaining to education and development. She believes that educational exchanges are integral to global acumen.
Tri Tjahjono
Location Manager, Jakarta, Arizona International
Tri Tjahjono is Arizona International’s location manager overseeing the partnership of the University of Arizona and Sampoerna University in Jakarta. For more than 20 years in international higher education, she has kept her attitude of continuous learning and her dedication to the education industry. Understanding the cultural differences and the importance of being able to engage in societies makes her more enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge and taking part in contributing more and more.

Carol Gregorio
Professor Emerita, University of Arizona, and Professor, Mount Sinai University
Carol Gregorio recently served as the Assistant Vice Provost for Global Health Sciences and Co-Pillar Owner of the University of Arizona’s Campus-Wide Strategic Plan. In these roles she established one-of-a-kind educational and research partnerships between the University of Arizona and several global institutions, most notably Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Most recently Dr. Gregorio transitioned into an Emeritus position at UArizona, while being hired as Senior Associate Dean for Basic Science, and Director and Founder of the Center for Cardiac Muscle Biology within the Icahn School of Medicine/Mount Sinai.
Lissette Calderón
Director for Latin American Programs
Lissette Calderón is the Director for Latin American Programs and has focused her efforts on UPC in Lima, Peru, and UDLA in Quito, Ecuador. She is a UArizona alumna earning her BA in Anthropology (minor in Environmental Science), her Master of Legal Studies, and is currently working on her PhD degree in Higher Education. Lissette has extensive experience working with international students and greatly values the cultural, language, and social exchange that happens when diverse groups come together.

Marc Miller
Dean, College of Law, University of Arizona
Marc Miller is the Dean and Ralph W. Bilby Professor at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. Miller is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School (1984) and Pomona College (1981). Miller is the author of more than 70 articles and essays on a wide range of environmental, criminal justice, and legal theory topics. For many years he has been ranked in the top 20 most-cited criminal procedure scholars in the United States. Before joining the University of Arizona, Miller taught at Emory University School of Law for 17 years, including service as Associate Dean for Research. He has been a visiting professor at Stanford and Duke.
Ola Lundemo
Assistant Professor of Practice, School of Natural Resources & Environment, University of Arizona
Ola Lundemo is an Assistant Professor of Practice of Ecotourism at the University of Arizona. Prior to this position, Ola was the founder and owner of a major ecotourism company in South Africa, specializing in marine excursions and education. He has worked in the sustainable tourism field in numerous other countries, including Norway, Swaziland, St. Helena, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, Curacao, and the U.S.
Iman Hakim
Dean, Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, University of Arizona
Iman Hakim is the Mel and Enid Zuckerman Endowed Chair in Public Health. She founded the Global Health Institute in 2010 (ghi.arizona.edu). As the director of the GHI, she developed a framework for successful education and research partnerships in global health focusing on training the next generation of global health experts. Dr. Hakim is actively engaged in a wide range of professional services to the global scientific community. She holds joint appointments in Nutritional Sciences and Family and Community Medicine.

Amy Kimme Hea
Associate Dean, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, University of Arizona
Amy Kimme Hea is the associate dean for academic affairs and student success and a professor in the Rhetoric, Composition, and Teaching of English Program at the University of Arizona.
Professor Kimme Hea is an award-winning teacher whose scholarship explores the intersections of writing development, technology, and methodology. Her most recent book, Telling Stories: Perspectives on Longitudinal Writing Research, offers otherwise unavailable glimpses into the logics and logistics of long-range studies of writing.
Lee Ryan
Head, Department of Psychology, University of Arizona
Lee Ryan is Professor and Department Head in Psychology, Associate Director, Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute, and Director, Cognition and Neuroimaging Laboratory at the University of Arizona. Ryan received a Ph.D. in Cognitive and Clinical Psychology at the University of British Columbia in 1992, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California at San Diego. Her research focuses on the neural basis of memory, age-related changes in memory, and how these changes relate to brain functioning.
Bo Yang
Associate Dean for Research, College of Agriculture, Planning and Landscape
Architecture, University of Arizona
Bo Yang is Professor of Landscape Architecture and Planning, Associate Dean for Research, College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, and Interim Director of The Drachman Institute. Bo is the author of 3 books and more than 60 publications on green infrastructure, landscape performance, and urban resilience topics. Bo’s students have received nearly 20 significant planning and design awards at the state and national/international levels. Bo is a registered Landscape Architect, a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, and a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
