Measuring ERG Success and Reporting Impact

Measuring ERG success and reporting impact is key to showing the value these groups bring to the business and to employees. Clear metrics help track progress, highlight wins, and guide future planning. Sharing impact—whether through participation, engagement, or community contributions—builds visibility, support, and momentum.

Event Tracking Excel Template

You can use the Event Tracking Excel to keep track of your own ERG Events. This excel includes: About the event Any partnership in the event Strategic Pillar addressed Number of hours, attendees, and cost This excel is located on the Resources page of the ERG SharePoint Site.

Event Submission Form The Event Submission Form is the way the HQ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team collects your event information that will feed into the end of the year ERG Impact Report.

Even if you are tracking on the event tracking excel for your local ERG, you must add each event to this form.

The information is the same as the excel sheet.

You can add your events in either right after the event or quarterly.

This form is located on the Resources page of the ERG SharePoint Site.

Toronto Mosaic’s Annual Plan and Budget

The Toronto Mosaic ERG’s Annual Plan focuses on fostering an inclusive, collaborative workplace that supports employees through recruitment, career development, education, and cultural celebration. With a structured, year-long schedule of programming and a transparent budget, the plan demonstrates best practices in aligning mission with measurable outcomes, engaging employees, and sustaining meaningful inclusion efforts across the organization.

This plan includes: Monthly Cultural Spotlights: The Friday Facts newsletter highlights a different cultural heritage each month, featuring informative content and a fun challenge with a prize.

Quarterly Events: Team gatherings with food, games, and prizes foster inclusion and connection through shared experiences.

Budget Tracking: A detailed monthly budget ensures spending aligns with goals and stays on track throughout the year.

Indiana ERG Coordinated Event Planning Approach

At the Indiana office location, all ERGs have adopted a coordinated approach to annual event planning. To prevent overlap and ensure a balanced cadence of programming throughout the year, ERG leaders meet collectively to map out their events across all twelve months.

A shared Microsoft Teams page and centralized calendar have been established, giving every ERG visibility into the broader schedule. This intentional collaboration not only helps avoid overbooking during any given month or quarter, but also fosters greater support and engagement across groups by aligning efforts and amplifying shared goals.

Pride Network Inclusion and Safety Toolbox Talk The National Pride Board developed a Toolbox Talk to spark important conversations about LGBTQ+ inclusion on job sites. The goal: to create safer, more respectful workplaces where every teammate can bring their full self to work.

Why This Matters: Inclusive environments drive better communication, stronger teams, and higher safety and productivity. This resource equips teams with simple actions—like using inclusive language and respecting pronouns—to help build that culture on every site. This document outlines the leadership requirements, qualifications, and responsibilities for Building VOICES. It details expectations for Executive Sponsors, Leads, Pillar Leads, Committee Members, Coordinators, and Board/Founding Members.

The guide establishes communication practices, role-specific duties, and highlevel deliverables to ensure alignment with company goals and effective execution of ERG initiatives at an office location level.

At Turner, Marketing and Community and Citizenship and our Employee Resource Groups can collaborate by promoting initiatives, building internal engagement, and connecting employees through shared interests.

See the below questions to ask and what to consider when getting your local Marketing and Community & Citizenship teams in your ERG meetings:

Executive Sponsorship and Leadership Buy In Guidelines, Expectations and Helpful tips

The Executive Sponsor serves as a guide to ensure that the ERG stays aligned to the overall company goals and remains true to their mission and in alignment with their strategy.

Requirements Level 7 and above.

2 year minimum - 3 year maximum commitment.

Must meet with BU ERG Leaders at least once annually.

Participate in at least two ERG events annually.

Roles & Responsibilities Cultivate Leadership Cultivate, empower and grow the leadership capabilities and support them as emerging leaders.

Work with ERG leads on succession planning and selecting new leaders.

Evaluate the group's structure and governance and recommend re-engineering, when necessary, with an eye toward enhancing effectiveness, visibility, and impact.

Help ERG gain access to budget, tools, and other resources needed for events or initiatives.

Enhance Visibility Serve as a visible and vocal advocate for the ERG when interacting with senior leadership and other leaders internally and externally.

Encourage active participation and engagement from office location leaders and middle managers in ERG efforts.

Elevate discussions about growing membership and increasing engagement Aligned Strategic Focus Eliminate barriers to ensure ERG Network meets its goals.

Provide insights to leaders regarding Turner’s overall business strategies and objectives.

Assure that ERG completes its annual strategic planning meeting to develop goals and budget for the upcoming year.

Support organization of town hall meetings with ERG leaders on behalf of the ERG board to listen and learn of issues. Work with the DE&I team to address challenges.

Executive Sponsorship and Leadership Buy In Guidelines, Expectations and Helpful tips

Feedback questions to ask Executive Sponsors 1. How do you think our ERG is doing so far?

2. What impact have you seen from our recent events or initiatives?

3. Are there areas where you think we could improve or focus more attention?

4. How can we better align our goals with broader company priorities?

5. Do you feel we’re engaging employees effectively?

6. What suggestions do you have for growing our membership or participation?

7. Is there anything we can do to better communicate our value to leadership?

8. How can you support us more effectively in the coming months?

9. Are there company resources or connections you recommend we tap into?

10. What’s one thing you’d like to see from the ERG this year?

Tips on how to handle participation issues Recognize they may be busy or unsure how to engage. Approach the situation with curiosity, not criticism.

Tip: Ask open-ended questions like, “What level of involvement feels realistic for you?” or “Is there a way we can make participation easier or more meaningful for you?”

Make sure both parties are aligned on what the sponsor role entails.

Tip: Share a brief outline of what support looks like—e.g., attending events, offering visibility, advocating for resources.

Give them simple, time-friendly ways to show support.

Share a short message they can post internally.

Invite them to give a 2-minute intro at an event.

Send regular, concise updates on ERG activities and wins—even if they can’t attend everything.

Tip: A monthly email with bullet-point highlights can go a long way.

If a big ask is coming, give them advance notice and be specific about what you need.

Tip: Frame it in terms of impact—“Your presence would mean a lot to our members and shows leadership cares about this work.”

Collaboration Between ERGs in your Office Location

Bringing together all ERG leaders from different ERG Networks within an office location for a collaboration meeting creates space for alignment, idea sharing, and collective impact. It helps avoid overlap, encourages cross-ERG partnerships, and strengthens communication. By working together, ERG leaders can amplify each other’s efforts, support shared goals, and build a more connected and inclusive culture across the office location.

BU ERG Planning Session At minimum, meet once a year with all ERG leaders in your office location.

It is the responsibility of the ERG leaders to plan and lead these meetings.

Review upcoming plans and events to: Avoid overlap between ERGs. Support each others events and help grow attendance.

Find where you can collaborate when possible.

Align on goals Ensure ERG activities being planned support broader office location and company goals.

Exchange ideas and best practices Discuss common challenges and identify ways to elevate ERG visibility and impact together.

Follow Up Agree on action items, next steps, and the timing for future check-ins.

Michigan ERG Leaders and ERG Advisor Monthly Meeting The Michigan ERG Leaders, in collaboration with their ERG Advisor, meet monthly, use this time to collaborate with each other by sharing issues, brainstorming solutions, and sharing the different events each ERG has coming up. They then submit their event data to their local ERG advisor, who compiles it into a report for local leadership.

NJWEST Women Building Women Collaborative Event

Launched in 2019, Women Building Women began as a collaboration among Turner’s NJWEST, Gensler, Thornton Tomasetti, and Langan to unite ERGs across firms. The goal: create space to connect, exchange best practices, and support professional growth.

Despite a pandemic pause, the event has become an anticipated annual tradition, evolving in format but staying true to its mission—empowering women in the industry through dialogue and collaboration. Topics span from career development and networking strategies to cross-firm project insights.

Now approaching its 6th year, the event continues to expand, with plans to bring in new partners such as Owner’s Representatives to enrich perspectives. The success of Women Building Women highlights a best practice: start small, stay consistent, and grow impact through collaboration.

The Austin, TX ERGs update the entire office at each quarterly meeting, taking the opportunity to share information about each ERG, the events that took place during the quarter, and upcoming events to promote. The primary objective is to enhance visibility and ensure that Austin employees are aware of the resources and connectivity available to them through these ERGs.
