GET TO KNOW GREATER TULSA
BIXBY
While nicknamed “The Garden Spot of Oklahoma” for its rich agrarian heritage, there are plenty more reasons to visit Bixby, Oklahoma aside from it being a great place to find fresh vegetables. The fastest-growing city in Oklahoma of around 27,454 people located about 20 miles south of the Tulsa International Airport, families are drawn to Bixby for its high-quality public schools while an increasing number of amenities follow as a result. Whether it’s homegrown businesses like the Bixby Telephone Company, cultural staples like the Bixby BBQ and Blues festival that’s known to be one of the best in Oklahoma, or even the city’s role as the setting for S.E. Hinton’s best-selling novel, Tex (1979), Bixby has made a name for itself, aside from it being a great place to procure the most delicious produce.
BROKEN ARROW
Just 12.7 miles south of Tulsa International Airport lies Broken Arrow, Tulsa’s largest suburb of
around 109,000 residents. Named after a former settlement of a Creek community in Alabama that moved to Indian Territory in the 1830s, Broken Arrow is a very modern and bustling residential area boasting an eclectic blend of both popular national retailers and local businesses. With vibrant attractions like the Rose District where roses adorn this walkable, cultural hub containing a stateof-the-art performance art center, a museum, a brewery, several unique restaurants and more, it’s no wonder that Broken Arrow has received accolades like the “9th Most Customer-Friendly U.S. City” from Yelp. Broken Arrow High School’s band, dubbed The Pride of Broken Arrow, is even a 12-time Grand National Finalist and a 2-time Bands of America Grand National Champion.
COLLINSVILLE
Named after Dr. A.H. Collins, an engineer and surveyor who first surveyed the area, Collinsville is home to approximately 7,000 people and is
located just north of Owasso, about 17 miles north of Tulsa International Airport. With a meticulously manicured parks system offering recreational activities from splash pads and skateparks to mountain biking and hiking, along with a quaint downtown curating frequent events that are fun for the whole family, Collinsville offers everything a visitor could want in terms of small town charm.
GLENPOOL
Were it not for Glenpool, Tulsa might not have been the city that we know and love today! Named after the Glenn Pool field where oil was discovered in 1905, the town of Glenpool is now home to a tightknit community of approximately 14,000 people,
located about 23 miles southwest of the Tulsa International Airport. The Glenpool Creek Indian Community Center is responsible for much of the happenings and community interaction in Glenpool, however, the most anticipated event every year is the BlackGold Days Festival, where a variety of food and craft vendors, live entertainment, frog and turtle races, the Optimist Horseshoe Tournament, carnival rides and even a beer garden can be enjoyed at BlackGold Park.
JENKS
Deemed the “Antique Capital of Oklahoma” for the wealth of boutiques that can be found here, Jenks, Oklahoma is a suburb of approximately 23,000 situated in a location that flirts with the Arkansas River about 19.6 miles southwest of the Tulsa International Airport. While many Tulsans flock to Jenks for the 96th St. and Riverside Drive section of the Riverwalk to walk, shop, eat, listen to live music and enjoy the lively environment, the city of Jenks is defined by much more than just their beautiful portion of the Arkansas River. It is home to First Oklahoma Bank’s headquarters, an elite high school football team that has won 14 state championships and even the Oklahoma Aquarium, which houses the world’s largest bull shark collection!
OWASSO
Just over 9 miles north of the Tulsa International Airport is Owasso, a town of nearly 37,000 that prides itself on being a ‘City of Character’. Whether it’s submitting newspaper editorials about the monthly character trait or meeting with local business leaders encouraging them to implement a character initiative in their place of business, Owasso is a community that loves to rally around their local high school team, the Owasso Rams. While a smaller-yet-growing city, there’s no shortage of buzz in Owasso, as their great public schools, a premier championship public golf course, and even an appearance in The Outsiders

SAND SPRINGS
(1983) make Owasso a homely destination worth visiting.
SAND SPRINGS
Founded in 1907 by the philanthropist Charles Page, Sand Springs is the only planned industrial town in the state, now home to approximately 20,000 people. The city is approximately 19 miles west of the Tulsa International Airport. The foundations that Page laid for the community were never forgotten, as the Sand Spring Children’s Home still operates to this day. Aside from the several diligent and active philanthropic entities Sand Springs is known for, visitors frequently enjoy the area’s outdoor offerings, from the Canyons at Blackjack Ridge, a private, 18-hole golf course, to cabins at Keystone State Park, to the 1300acre Keystone Ancient Forest (which predates the establishment of the United States), where magnificent 500-year-old cedars and 300-year-old post oak trees can be found.
SAPULPA
The town of Sapulpa is home to around 21,000 residents and can be found approximately 23 miles southwest from the Tulsa International Airport along Historic Route 66. Named after the area’s first permanent settler, a creek indian of the Kasihta tribe, Sapulpa is a great destination for nostalgic and enthusiastic people intrigued by the Mother Road. Route 66 sites in Sapulpa include the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum which features the world’s tallest replica of an antique visible gas pump, and the Rock Creek Bridge, a notable 1921 metal bridge that was a fixture along the Mother Road years ago.
TULSA
The 2nd largest city in Oklahoma and the 47thmost populous in the U.S. at approximately 400,000 people, Tulsa, once known as the “oil capital of the world”, attracts people from every walk of life wanting to live even just a slice of their life on Tulsa Time. Tulsa is a place where large, headquartered companies like QuikTrip, BOK Financial Corporation and ONEOK coexist with a thriving and ambitious local scene that defines cultural life in Tulsa by way of an engaging arts community, a culinary utopia and a seemingly endless amount of unique boutiques. Aside from being a place of opportunity, Tulsa boasts an impressive amount of art deco architecture that goes toe to toe with even the largest cities, a halfbillion-dollar park that beckons to be explored by all, a rich history of music that inspired a genre named after the city and so much more. There’s just no place quite like T-Town. n

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
In principle and practice, Tulsa Regional Tourism believes diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to supporting our residents and visitors. We strive to foster an inclusive organizational culture for individuals to experience authentic, respectful interactions with Tulsa’s destination marketing organization. We believe that celebrating diversity, championing equity and cultivating inclusion should be reflected in the cultural landscape of the Tulsa region.
BIDDING POLICY
Tulsa Regional Tourism believes that our suppliers should reflect the faces of our members and communities. By including and supporting diverse businesses in our supply chain, we create jobs, opportunity and growth for the diverse business owners and communities we serve.
DIVERSE CULTURAL SCENE
While there are many triumphs in Tulsa’s history, there are tragedies as well. The Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 will be commemorated and acknowledged during its centennial in 2021. The Greenwood Cultural Center and John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park are great stops for education on both the thriving history of Black Wall Street and of the tragedies the community faced. No matter your background, Tulsa is a place that celebrates diversity; acknowledging that it is our differences that make this city such a unique and interesting place. Several events throughout the year reflect this sentiment, such as Tulsa Pride, an annual festival put on by Oklahomans for Equality that has become a rich tradition of nearly 40 years. Other events such as the Oklahoma Tribal Celebration, the Juneteenth Blues & Jazz Festival on Greenwood, Scotfest, MisFest (the all-women music festival), Fiesta de Tulsa, Oktoberfest, The Tulsa Indian Art Festival, and so much more are just high points throughout the year representing

the multiculturalism of Tulsa that is always present and making this city a more dynamic place to be.
1921 RACE MASSACRE
On the eve of May 31, 1921, Tulsa was the scene of one of the deadliest acts of racial violence in American history. Thirty-five city blocks of the Greenwood District were razed to the ground along with more than 1,200 houses. 300 people were killed, 800 more were injured, and the prosperity of Black Wall Street, a place of sanctuary and optimistic promise for Black Americans, was destroyed for years to come. Before the dubious allegations against Dick Rowland became tinder for the flames of vitriolic white supremacy, the historic Greenwood District was home to a self-sustaining economic hub of around 300 thriving, black-owned businesses. Out of sheer determination and resilience in the face of great adversity, the people of Black Wall Street rebuilt most of the Greenwood District in the ten years following the massacre. Today, nearly 100 years later, new black-owned

businesses and non-profit organizations have flocked to the district to continue bringing this once-silenced narrative of Tulsa’s history to the forefront of the national conversation and to usher in a new era of Black Wall Street that honors and expands on the cultural roots that were planted so long ago.
NATIVE AMERICAN
A total of 67 Native American nations have called Oklahoma home, many of which resided in what was formerly known as Indian Territory, a region comprising Tulsa and surrounding areas before Tulsa (or even Oklahoma) was a thought. In Tulsa, Native American heritage is all around you. From Council Oak Park, a landmark for where the Locapoga clan of the Creek Indian Nation established their new home in Indian Territory, to the burial site of the prolific Perryman family that was instrumental in the development of what would one day be Tulsa. Attractions like Gilcrease Museum and Philbrook Museum of Art showcase a sprawling collection of Native American art and artifacts both from the past and from current national and local artists who play a pivotal role in shaping Native American culture.
CHARLES SCHUSTERMAN JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER
The Charles Schusterman Jewish Community Center is a recreational center that serves families of all faiths and backgrounds. Members can enjoy the facility’s fitness center, pool, family programs, a 5-acre sports complex, indoor gymnasium, squash and racquetball courts and more.
Owned and operated by the Jewish Federation of Tulsa, the JCC campus is also home to the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art, the Mizel
Jewish Community Day School, Liberators’ Park, the JFT Community Garden, and the Zarrow Pointe retirement center.
GILCREASE MUSEUM OF ART
Gilcrease Museum of Art has amassed the world’s largest, most comprehensive collection of the American West, much of which includes the works more than one hundred Native American cultures, some dating back to 12,000 B.C. The museum curates several world-class temporary exhibits that often feature Native American art and provide meaningful commentary on topical issues and ideas.
SHERWIN MILLER MUSEUM OF JEWISH ART
The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art (named after its first curator) and its collections have been a part of Tulsa since 1965. What started as an exhibit for traditional ceremonial art has grown and flourished to adopt a mission dedicated to the “eradication of hate and the promotion of understanding between the diverse cultures that make America great”. This mission is served by the impressive collection that the museum has amassed of over 10,000 items, documents, and photographs. The museum’s upper level displays a permanent collection of art and artifacts detailing the 5,000-year history of the Jewish people, from the pre-Canaanite era through the settling of the Jewish community in Tulsa. The lower level of the museum features the Herman and Kate Kaiser Holocaust Exhibition. The collection is comprised of artifacts donated by Oklahoma veterans who took part in the liberation of German concentration camps, Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany, and families of Holocaust victims. The museum is a place for all who want to commemorate those who

suffered the terrors of the Holocaust, as well as those who want to learn more about Jewish art, history, and culture.
DENNIS R. NEILL EQUALITY CENTER
The Dennis R. Neill Equality Center, owned and operated by Oklahomans for Equality, is an 18,000 square foot facility featuring a wellness center, a full-service lending library and an event center that hosts several diverse programs for people of all ages. Oklahomans for Equality have served members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies for over 40 years through advocacy, education, programs and alliances. Tulsa Pride, an annual festival put on by Oklahomans for Equality, has become a rich tradition of nearly 40 years and the longest-running Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender festival in Oklahoma.
HISPANIC COMMUNITY
From an annual Dia de Los Muertos Festival with a parade of fire dancers and life-size papier-
mâché skeletons to the family-owned local bakery chain Pancho Anaya whose authentic pastries have become a Tulsa staple, to the Tulsa CityCounty Library’s Hispanic Resource Center that hosts a robust set of programs, Tulsa’s Hispanic community is vibrant, diverse and represents all spectrums of life in Tulsa. n

UNIQUE VENUES
IN TULSA, THERE’S ALWAYS A SPACE TO ACCOMMODATE A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT EVENTS. THE FOLLOWING VENUES ARE BY NO MEANS A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF ALL TULSA HAS TO OFFER, BUT ARE NONETHELESS GREAT VENUES TO CONSIDER WHEN BOOKING YOUR NEXT EVENT IN TULSA!
If you’re booking a large event, look no further than CAIN’S BALLROOM (Tulsa). Rightfully placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, enthusiastic patrons have taken to the venue’s spring-loaded maple floor since Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys made it their base of operations for pioneering Western Swing throughout the ’30s and ’40s. Now a top club venue in the U.S., Cain’s will surely inject awe and intrigue into your next event. If you favor a more modern aesthetic for a large event, the BROKEN ARROW PAC is a formidable venue with state-of-the-art lighting, sound and theater technical equipment.

Smaller yet still sizable indoor venues are abundant in Tulsa. THE GATHERING PLACE (Tulsa) itself has ten distinct locations of various sizes, aesthetics and purposes. For an elegant setting just minutes away from Downtown Tulsa, HARWELDEN MANSION (Tulsa), a collegiate gothic-English Tudor-style mansion listed on the National Register of Historic Places has received accolades such as “Best Place to Book a Party” in the Tulsa People’s Readers’ Choice Awards and Oklahoma Magazine’s “Best of the Best”. Other unique venues include the charmingly quirky STOKELY EVENT CENTER (Tulsa) with its pinball, skee ball, shuffleboard games amidst vintage Route 66 memorabilia, and THE
BROADWAY (Tulsa) with its urban, industrial, chic setting.
Sometimes, the best venues are in the great outdoors. SPAIN RANCH in Jenks is a familyowned space nestled on 44 acres of jaw-dropping land along the Arkansas River with barn and cabins sprinkled throughout; you might even spot a bison! THE HIDDEN ROSE WEDDING VENUE in Sapulpa offers outdoor tree-lit areas ideal for particularly pleasant evenings. Equally gorgeous is DREAM POINT RANCH in Bixby, another family-owned ranch with soaring ceilings, natural light and complete privacy nestled on 191 acres at the tallest point in Tulsa County. n

Life on Tulsa Time is a dream, but dreams can be fleeting. While you’re here, these are the some of the most attractive attractions Tulsa proudly offers. So dream big, and enjoy that Tulsa Time.
Mentioned in TIME Magazine’s ‘World’s Greatest Places of 2019’ and simultaneously deemed as USA Today’s ‘Best New Attraction’ of 2019, THE GATHERING PLACE (Tulsa) is an imaginative riverside park that beckons to be explored. From trails to gardens, playgrounds to boat ponds, skateparks to sports courts, cafes to restaurants, along with events that are programmed yearround, The Gathering Place is truly a place to gather for everyone. Equally awe-inducing is the PHILBROOK MUSEUM OF ART. The former home of a prominent Tulsa oilman, this Italian Renaissance villa-turned-art-museum is breathtaking. If you can peel your eyes from the enchanting architecture and gardens, you’ll find that within Philbrook’s walls is an impressive collection encompassing art of Native American, American, European, Modern and Contemporary Art and Design, African, Asian, and Antiquity origins.
Even with a busy schedule, there are sights all over Tulsa ideal for a quick stop to add a dash of excitement to your day. ORU’S Praying Hands sculpture (a sight that you can see even when your flight is touching down in Tulsa) is a grand display of bronze work that weighs in at 30 tons and towers above at 60 feet tall! Another giant that calls Tulsa home is the GOLDEN DRILLER that stands guard to EXPO SQUARE (Tulsa). The golden oilman whose arm rests atop a real Oklahoma
oil derrick is the 6th tallest statue and the tallest free-standing statue in the nation, coming in at a whopping 75 feet tall! Other attractions are less about what you can see and more about what you can hear, such as the enigma that is the Center of the Universe located on a pedestrian bridge downtown. A hidden gem for newcomers to Tulsa, simply stand in the concrete circle at the apex of the bridge and speak to experience a sonic vortex of mystery that has puzzled those who have tried to solve it! For fans of street art, you must keep an eye out for the various murals scattered all across town, from colorful and interpretive buffaloes to an imposing Woody Guthrie clutching his machine that kills fascists.
If you’ve got the shopping bug and are looking to bring some Tulsa flair back home, the best place to start is at BUCK ATOMS COSMIC CURIOS on 66! At this quirky boutique, you’ll be greeted by the friendly space cowboy muffler man, Buck, and find an endless collection of Tulsa and

Route 66-themed knick-knacks that make for the perfect memento for you or a loved one! You may even make your way over to the vibrant ROSE DISTRICT in Broken Arrow, where roses adorn the walkable downtown that is home to boutiques, a performance art center, a library, a paint & sip, a bookstore, a tea room, a brewery, savory restaurants, a museum and unique event venues!
Other exciting attractions are just on the horizon, such as GREENWOOD RISING (coming to Tulsa in May 2021) and the OKPOP MUSEUM (coming to Tulsa in 2022). Greenwood Rising, a project led by the Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission, will be a museum featuring several interactive exhibits that serve to inform, educate, and prompt conversation around the devastating 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and what it means today. The OKPOP Museum, nicknamed the “Crossroads of Creativity”, will focus on the many cultural influencers hailing from Oklahoma in the worlds of music, film, TV, theatre, pop art, comic books, literature and humor. n

Business doesn’t mean you can’t bring your family. Here’s how your family can stay entertained in Tulsa.
love exploring SAFARI JOE’S H20 WATER & ADVENTURE PARK, where wave pools and water slides meet iguanas and other critters for a truly unique experience (and don’t worry, the animals have their own place to play)!
Waterpark goers aren’t the only aquatic life inhabiting Tulsa. Those with a nagging curiosity about marine life should head to the OKLAHOMA AQUARIUM. The creatures that call our world’s mysterious and vast waters home are represented in full here, including the young-at-heart alligator snapping turtle named Grandpa, who is estimated to have been born in 1898, roughly 9 years before Oklahoma was even a state! You will also have the opportunity to see the world’s largest bull shark collection, viewable from a transparent tunnel where the creatures that inspired Jaws circle around you. If that’s not enough, make your way over to the 85 sprawling acres of the TULSA ZOO located in one of the largest municipal parks in the United States! With 12 exhibits of close to 426 species of animals, you can explore and learn more about the animal kingdom in its full glory.
Other fun and educational opportunities can be found in the TULSA CHILDREN’S MUSEUM DISCOVERY LAB and the TULSA AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM & PLANETARIUM. At the Discovery Lab, unique programming encourages kids to develop their creativity, critical-thinking, problem-solving and collaboration skills. These skills are put to use in the Discovery Lab’s workshop, where families can play and design using “real stuff”. At the Tulsa Air and Space Museum, you can check out the historical exhibits such as Bill Pogue’s space-flown astronaut suit or the last B-24 built for World War II, while also engaging in hands-on activities like manipulating a space shuttle robotic arm! The planetarium presents the opportunity to watch an immersive screening of full-dome videos, and on select nights, even experience live star tours of the night sky!
Of course, time is always well spent in Mother Nature, and Tulsa is a city that prides itself on its green space. The Gathering Place is a 100-acre example of this! Aside from the vast amounts of year-round recreational space that

BOTANICAL GARDENS is another colorful landscape ripe for exploration. The family will love the Children’s Discovery Garden, an experiencebased learning area where a 15-foot stone face emanates a spring from its mouth that cascades through a lush assortment of greenery. If the family is feeling extra adventurous and in search of a hike, both the OXLEY NATURE CENTER and the TURKEY MOUNTAIN URBAN WILDERNESS TRAILS are great ways to escape the city without ever leaving it. The Oxley Nature Center is around 804 acres (compared to Central Park in NYC at 843 acres) that accommodates 9 miles of trails where you can see 700 different species of plants. The Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Trails extend out from the River Parks trails into 300 acres of undeveloped land. At the trailhead, you can even witness an unrivaled view of the Tulsa skyline from afar! n

dining
Arecent Business.org article validated a well-known truth for Tulsans, asserting that Tulsa is the 22nd most food-obsessed city in the United States! No matter what part of Tulsa or its surrounding areas you find yourself in, you can rest assured that you’ll be able to find a plethora of diverse and savory tastes that make Tulsa a culinary utopia.
As your feet grace the streets of our beloved downtown area, you’ll find remnants of Boomtown Tulsa in the extensive amount of art deco architecture. Behind these lustrous facades, however, Tulsa also had a bootlegging past where flappers and sheiks alike would flock to speakeasies in droves. A hundred years later, you can enjoy high-class fare in a speakeasy setting without worry of law enforcement, whether it’s BULL IN THE ALLEY (Tulsa), where you enter through a plain green door in an alley with a
small metal bull hanging over it into an ambiance complete with live piano music and food that tastes as immaculate as it looks, or NOLA’S CREOLE & COCKTAILS (Tulsa), serving authentic cajun favorites paired with all the classic prohibition-era cocktails. If you’re looking for variety, THE CHALKBOARD (Tulsa), connected to the historic AMBASSADOR HOTEL (Tulsa), has an extensive menu that spans the spectrum of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and of course, brunch! The Chalkboard also frequently hosts events that feature the best Tulsa has to offer in terms of local breweries, wineries and musicians, all of which you can enjoy on their outdoor patio space.
Other elevated dining options in a more casual atmosphere include POLO GRILL (Tulsa) and STONEHORSE CAFE (Tulsa), both of which are in Utica Square, Tulsa’s iconic, outdoor shopping center. Polo Grill offers deluxe, light lunch options but doesn’t disappoint with hearty dinner

options as well. At Stonehorse Cafe, a seasonal menu ensures that there is always something new and exciting to try. Even their meatloaf is delicious! If you’re in search of both surf and turf, MAHOGANY PRIME STEAKHOUSE (Tulsa) delivers on both ends and even tops the experience off with an impressive selection of fine wine. If you prefer your wine with Mediterranean fare, then you’ll want to make your way to WATER’S EDGE WINERY & BISTRO (Broken Arrow), an urban winery where you can order affordable flights of wine and even have custom labels made for bottles you want to take home! Last but certainly not least, you might consider trying Tulsa’s only authentic Caribbean food at SISSEROU’S (Tulsa), a restaurant that coaxes you in with island music and colorful decor and makes you stay for Dominicainspired foods with jerk seasoning galore!
As Anthony Bourdain reminded us, “What nicer thing can you do for somebody than make them
breakfast? Eateries in Tulsa like DILLY DINER (Tulsa) and TOAST (Broken Arrow) add substance to this argument, quite literally. At Dilly Diner, it comes in the form of their hearty gourmet sandwiches made from locally-made bread and allnatural meats. At Toast, it comes in the form of their green chile breakfast burritos and their specials that vary every day!
Looking to just get caffeinated? The beans of Tulsa’s coffee scene are not to be taken lightly (unless you mean light roast coffee)! TOPECA (Tulsa) & DOUBLESHOT (Tulsa) are both local roasters of the highest esteem. In a pinch, you might visit one of Topeca’s three locations in town. The awardwinning, international company that is one of the first “farm-to-cup” companies in the world isn’t a terrible choice. Alternatively, DoubleShot is an ideal meeting space with its extensive log-cabin-like location, serving fantastic espresso and some of the freshest coffee in town. n

AFTER HOURS hot spots
Looking for a fun after-hour networking spot? Luckily, in Tulsa, there are places for everyone to blow off steam.
There’s nothing to raise your spirits like... well, spirits! From dive bars to more upscale establishments to something in between, Tulsa is abundant with atmospheres to accommodate any occasion. At VALKYRIE (Tulsa), you’ll be met with a classy, cozy vibe that’s free of pretension. Their award-winning bar staff “playfully serves serious drinks” and will even curate a special-made cocktail adjusted for your tastes. What’s more, the bar is even a former location pictured in a scene in the 1983 Francis Ford Coppola film, Rumble Fish! If you like your liquor with a caffeinated twist, you must make a trip to HODGE’S BEND (Tulsa), a coffee bar that retains all the charm of a 1940’s cafe. Creative takes on classic cocktails are a staple here, such as their Tobacco Old-Fashioned.
For a more casual indoor/outdoor atmosphere with a plethora of microbrews, head over to 473 BAR & BACKYARD (Tulsa) in the Kendall-Whittier District, one of Tulsa’s most charming areas.
Like to enjoy a view and maybe just a bit of vertigo while you sip? Tulsa’s got you covered. Six floors up from the ground level of Hotel Indigo is where you’ll find ROOF 66 (Tulsa). Offering both craft cocktails and a casual happy hour, it’s an ideal place to cap off or initiate a night of festivities with a spellbinding view of the Tulsa skyline. If microbrewed craft beer is more your style, you’ll be happy to know that WELLTOWN BREWERY (Tulsa) is just a jump, skip, and several hops away. From citrusy IPAs to complex stouts to their own signature Mexican lager, Welltown Brewery has something for everyone, all of which you can enjoy on their elevated outdoor patio with another enchanting view of the city. (Broken Arrow) is another spot to enjoy a brew with a view, and maybe even chow down on some of their flatbread pizzas as you overlook the beautiful Rose District of Broken Arrow.
No one is ever too old for games, and there’s always space for adults to play in Tulsa. You might spend some of your spare time at DUST BOWL (Tulsa), where there’s no famine to be found as you snack and enjoy libations in a retro bowling setting. If you prefer birdies to strikes, the GOLFSUITES in Jenks offers climate-controlled suites with technology that allows you to play on a variety of simulated golf courses, all while near the beautiful Jenks Riverwalk. If you’re feeling extra lucky, you may find yourself at one of the area’s many luxurious casinos in HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO (Catoosa), OSAGE CASINO HOTEL (Tulsa), or RIVER SPIRIT CASINO RESORT (Tulsa).
Music junkies will be elated to hear that Tulsa’s music scene is novel, historic and thriving. Rolling Stone has even deemed it “the next Austin” (although folks around here would dispute that Tulsa is the next Tulsa). While larger venues such as the CAIN’S BALLROOM, the TULSA THEATER and the BOK CENTER have hosted some of the best acts in the country and the world, Tulsa is rife with bustling smaller venues that host amazing local talent such as MAGGIE’S MUSIC BOX (Jenks) and Mercury Lounge. Inspired by J.J. Cale’s song, Magnolia, Maggie’s Music Box is a brand new venue that doubles as a rum bar & cantina with live original music and is owned by longtime venue owners and fans of the Tulsa music scene. While the owners would say that “this bar sucks”, MERCURY LOUNGE is Tulsa’s most welcoming dive bar boasting an ambitious schedule of a variety of local musicians on tap almost every night! n

SYMBOLISM
The blue field symbolizes the Arkansas River, and the many resources it has provided throughout our history and today.
The horizontal line represents the 1901 discovery of oil, the “black gold” that brought substantial growth and commerce to this land.
A FLAG FOR THE PEOPLE
The beige field represents the warmth and community commonly found in Tulsa.
The shield represents the Native American tribes forced to relocate to this region. It is also a nod to the Oklahoma state flag.
Within the shield, the red circle represents the blood shed and lives lost during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre that destroyed Black Wall Street, the most prosperous African American community in the country.
The beige star at the center represents Tulsa’s bright future. A nod to Tulsa’s Art Deco architecture, it shows that we heal from past wounds and continue to flourish as an icon of a uniquely American city.
FLAG DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
In 2017, a group of private citizens organized an effort to design a new flag for the city of Tulsa. The effort, called the Tulsa Flag Project, received nearly 400 design submissions, of which three were
chosen as finalists. Of the more than 8,000 votes cast by citizens on these finalists, 51% were for the winning design. Local citizens and businesses have widely embraced the design, and it is flown throughout Tulsa.
