Salty Monkeys launch youth leadership program STORY BY CARLI WILLIS PICS SUPPLIED Grass roots Zenadth Kes business Salty Monkeys has launched a youth leadership program on Badu Island designed to facilitate knowledgesharing around culture and the environment. Founder Dennis Fay said the main objective of the program was to inspire and build

confidence in the participants. “We want them to become the leaders within the community,” he said. Mr Fay said some of the program activities included created video content, a beach cleanup, yarns with Elders and spear-making. “That ocean is a big provider, so we were wanting to focus on that environmental thing too,” he said.

“Creative expression through the videos to just get them to participate in things within the community. “Badu was just the first opportunity and hopefully we can get everyone on board and support us to be able to do that same program in any community.” Mr Fay said through the activities young people developed teamwork, communication and problem solving skills.
