Summer Opportunities

Carolyn Dobbs Memorial Internships at Mt Rainier National Park

These are paid positions with housing provided. The positions available this year are with Aquatic ecology, Ecological restoration, and the Wilderness Information Center. The internship begins Monday June 12 and runs for 13 weeks, until Friday September

8. The 13-week internship pays a stipend of $3,000. The Park provides shared housing at Longmire, Paradise, or Tahoma Woods.

NASA DEVELOP Program

A paid summer research internship working on an applied science project with the NASA DEVELOP program. The internship runs from June 5th to August 11th , in Pocatello, Idaho. For more details pertaining to this position, and to apply please visit NASA DEVELOP.

❖ C-Pen Workshop

C-Pens are an awesome tool that can specifically support students with learning disabilities navigate reading and notetaking. Registration is required and space is limited for this workshop. Sign up by emailing Jessica.a.tourtellotte@evergreen.edu

Need a break? Want a chance to connect with community in a relaxed and fun environment? Join TRIO for a night of laughter, creativity, and being together. Card games, board games, puzzles, and yetis in spaghetti; we have it all, including arts and crafts! Zen out with self-care creation kits.

Got kids? Bring 'em! TRIO Jess is bringing her son. Snacks galore!

❖ Re-imagining Valentine’s Day

In the spirit of friendship, TRIO and First Peoples Multicultural Trans and Queer Support Services have partnered to bring you a Valentine’s Day celebration!

Black History Month

❖ First Peoples Multicultural, Trans and Queer Support Services will be paying tribute to the Black Panthers Party’s' Free Breakfast program. Join them for free pancakes!

When: February 21st , 2023, from 10:30 am to noon

Where: The SEAL, CAB 310

❖ Evergreen’s Social Justice Center will present the film “Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America.”

This film by Emily and Sarah Kunstler showcases the work of former ACLU Deputy Legal Director Jeffrey Robinson, founder of the Who We Are Project, which works “to challenge the dominant narrative of our nation’s founding, demonstrating how slavery’s legacy has led to persistent and abiding racial inequality, and promoting education, discourse, and change.”

When: Wednesday, February 22 at 3:00 pm

STEM Information Sessions

Are you a STEM student interested in learning more about graduate school or careers in the STEM fields? Check out the two presentations offered by the local chapter of the American Chemical Society. The two events will be done on Zoom. To learn more and to register for the events, check out their flyer.

Housing updates

Do you plan to live on campus next quarter or academic year? Below are the housing application timelines!

Spring 2023: Application closes March 13th at 8 am

Academic Year 2023-2024: Opens Mar 1st at 8am

Priority Deadline is May 1st at 8am. Applications submitted after this date will automatically be placed on our waitlist and will be considered as spaces are available.

Important Reminders

Week 5 check-ins with your faculty

It’s Week 5, and time for mid-quarter check-ins with your faculty. This is a great opportunity to talk to your professor(s) about your academic progress, learn if you are on track to earn full credit, and find out what to do if you are not. Talk with your professor(s) to close out the rest of the quarter successfully!

TRIO Study Hall

There are now two Study Halls! You can get support navigating academic technology and writing support on Mondays from 4-6 pm in the Evans Hall Computer Lab, classroom 2612.

We will continue offering the regular drop-in study sessions on Thursday from 5-7 pm in the Evans Hall Computer Lab, classroom 2612.

Tutoring With TRIO!

TRIO’s tutor coordinator, Gator can work with you to set up one to one tutoring with an Evergreen Peer Tutor. Tutoring services include

• Receiving tutoring on a language or academic subject

• Support with time management and organization skills

• Help to understand and complete assignments.

TRIO Students can work with a tutor for up to 3 hours a week.

Adding/dropping classes

If you need to drop a class for any reason, you must complete the process yourself. Not going to class doesn't automatically drop you. To drop classes, you must fill out a petition. TRIO can help! If you need guidance about dropping a class- don’t hesitate to reach out to your advisor.

TRIO students need to meet with their TRIO Academic Specialist at least once per quarter. Now is the time to make that appointment. You can do so by dropping by our Olympia offices or scheduling an online appointment with your academic advisor.
