A 'BREESEY' READ: OSCAR'S NEXT VOYAGE

A MESSAGE FROM THE ALUMNI BOARD

The Wisconsin Triangle Alumni Board has been active the last couple of months, with lots of developments.

Breese Manor:

I would like to start by thanking everyone who has already donated funds to help with the project. The first round of donations is being used to help hire an architect and consultants with the designing of the new structure. We have met with the city already, and although we do not have a finalized plan yet, things are looking promising. Recent changes in zoning laws have opened new opportunities for us, and while the building themselves may not be able to be demolished (especially 148, 144 we don’t have a firm answer on yet) the plan of expanding the buildings and conjoining them into one unified being is still progressing.

At this point it is not a question of if we can get Breese Manor accomplished, but how we will. Beyond the expansion of the house, there will also be extensive renovations to update the house, add study rooms, and generally make the house more appropriate for the growing chapter. Our goal for this project right now is to get the house to 25-30 bedrooms, which the active chapter is confident they will be able to fill given recent numbers.

Alumni Board: The Alumni Board itself has undergone some significant changes. The board has been expanded to six members, to help tackle the challenges with the Breese Manor project. The board meets regularly once a month, as well as having multiple social events each month for actives and alumni alike each month. If you’d like to be added to the list of contacts about these events, reach out to Grant Meadows: gmeadows234@gmail.com.

NOTEFROMACTIVEALUMNIRELATIONSCHAIR

Happy Spring Brothers!

My name is Brother Connor Grossnickle (Wis '19), I am the alumni relations chair here at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Over the last 4 years, we have grown at an exponential rate. From the 25-person chapter many of you may have seen before covid hit, to more than a 50-person chapter today. This chapter's growth involved the joint effort of actives and our local alumni board. We have developed a passionate group enthralled with community service, brotherhood, and philanthropy. One thing we are looking to do now is reconnect with our roots. After some years where we've kept to ourselves and the campus.

The chapter is looking to do a few things to kick off this alumni engagement, and we would love for you all to be a part of them.

The first and most immediate thing is that we have a discord server (online communication platform)! This is our main form of informal communication and is linked here: https://discord.gg/R8hMV2pJze.

Second, the chapter is forming a committee titled: Operation Composites. We will be reaching out to every brother we can find via our composites and will be maintaining a photo gallery of all the composites and additional photos spread throughout the house on our website or a future dropbox (to be decided later). If you have any photos, stories, or composites you would like to donate, please reach out to myself (cgrossnickle@wisc edu) or Owen Petrich (our current Vice President of External Operations) (Opetrich@wisc.edu).

BROTHERHOODSPOTLIGHTS

Brother Jake is a representative for the engineering students inside of the Associated Students of Madison Organization. Jake has been working closely with one of the Deans of the College of Engineering to make sure the new tuition raises at the school are going towards updating our facilities and continue to follow the plan that the dean presented to all of the Student Organizations here on campus. We hope that Jake can continue to make a huge impact here on campus as we get more involved with the College of Engineering

Brother Brayden will be starting his first Electrical Engineering Internship this summer with Blattner Electric As he wraps up his sophomore year at UWMadison, Brayden will be preparing to move out to a job site to a project where they will be constructing a solar field.

Brayden will be the main communication point between the contractors on-site and Blattner Electric Brayden has been a key cog of the organization in his role in recruitment this year, and he's looking forward to continuing to develop his communication and technical skills with Blattner this summer.

ACTIVECHAPTERUPDATE

ello Brothers and Families,

Since our last newsletter, the brothers of the Wisconsin chapter have been busy finishing the fall semester and gearing up for the calendar year. Thanksgiving Break provided some much needed respite for the brothers right before crunch time for finals. We were also graced by the presence of brothers from the Minnesota chapter in the Battle of Paul Bunyan’s Axe. While we ultimately came up short in the big game, it was a great opportunity to connect with the brothers up north. With Thanksgiving Break over, it was time for a full week of brotherhood events culminating in Ritual on December 3rd Events of the week included a scavenger hunt, movie night, bridge building, and a trip to the Sett. We were fortunate enough to initiate 13 new brothers into the fraternity. We are all very excited to see how they will grow and shape the fraternity in the future. The fall semester wrapped up with the election of the new executive board and other officer positions. They are a very ambitious and driven bunch who are dedicated to advancing the Wisconsin chapter to even greater heights

The house continues to be improved by the brothers as the standard of living quickly rises. The first of two major house improvement days for the semester is rapidly approaching on February 25th. All the work will be put into making renovations to the house such as drywalling, repairs to floors and lights, updating bathrooms, and general maintenance and upkeep of the house. Almost every room in the house has had some touch ups done to them within the past year, with over half of those being full room renovations Other completed projects include the front and back stairs stairs to 144.While there have been improvements made, there continue to be some major issues that plague the house due to its age. Some issues include a broken furnace, floating grounds and other electrical issues, and a sinking subfloor in the kitchen due to rotten wood. Without your help and support, it will be very difficult to make these fixes ourselves. In conjunction with the new renovations, the growth of the chapter, as well as rising demand to live in the house, the house is bursting at the seams Every room is occupied, including one double, and that number is expected to grow to two doubles for the upcoming academic year.

The calendar year got off to a fast start for the active chapter. Members of the executive board traveled to Camp Jameson in Plainfield, Indiana to spend a weekend at Leadership Training Weekend to grow their skills and learn about the resources available to them as leaders in the chapter They returned with some brothers from the Michigan Tech chapter who stayed for the night on their way back. It was great to have them visit and we plan to have another event with them! Brotherhood events kicked off with a ski trip in the Upper Peninsula right before school started to celebrate the last little bit of freedom before the academic semester started for brothers. With the start of classes, the reigning chapter for philanthropy and community picked up right where they left off Many of the brothers participated in a “Souperbowl” held by brothers Connor Grossnickle and Hunter Downey as part of Habitat For Humanity.

Other events planned include mixers with a sorority, Alpha Omega Epsilon, fundraising events, a camping trip scheduled for the first weekend in April and Formal which is currently scheduled for April 15th Rush is finished and we are looking to continue to grow the fraternity to the largest it has been thanks to Brother Brayden Schaeuble. We were able to initiate eight new members to bring our membership up to a grand total of 55. The upcoming calendar year will be a busy one but a very fun one. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to the President, Brother Logan Chart at ltchart@wisc.edu, or our Alumni Relations Chair, Brother Connor Grossnickle at cgrossnickle@wisc.edu. Here’s to another great year

In F, S, and C, Brother Diego Arredondo wis20
