Dear Members,
I hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend. While we enjoy the weather, I want to thank and remember our past and current service members for their sacrifice this past Memorial Day.
We have been fortunate to have a dry spring evidenced by all the activity on the golf course and pickleball courts. The great weather has also helped with the irrigation project. The team has been hard at work laying the main pipes along the fairways and keeping the course playable with minimal interruption. The project is on schedule and should be completed by the end of June. Please continue to support Adam, and his team, by following the posted directions on the holes being affected.
With increased activity we have seen some maintenance issues recently that we are addressing immediately. The steam room, simulator lounge and the outside fire pit seating are being addressed and will be fixed as soon as possible. These are high use areas and we recognize the importance for the member enjoyment.
Chris Myslow, and his staff, will hold a Town Hall meeting on June 7th at 6:00 p.m. to update the membership on recent initiatives and provide a forum for member feedback and questions. I will also be attending and available to hear your comments and answer any questions you might have. I will also be providing a financial update in the July Divot. As you know, we have made some changes in the finance area, and as we have previously communicated, we plan on providing financial updates regularly.
My term as President is going by quickly. I appreciate the thoughts and comments I have received along the way. It’s my goal to represent the wishes of the membership to the best of my ability, feel free to keep sharing your ideas and they will be discussed with the Board and staff. I have recently asked the membership to consider participating in the By-Laws review, and I did get two members who expressed interest. The governance of the club is dictated by the By-Laws, so you can see the importance of this committee.
I would also like to highlight a very talented member of our staff, our Pastry Chef Ana Knecht. All of you have probably had one of her creative and delicious desserts but she recently came to the rescue of our family. We were a very loyal customer of Desert Deli and was sad to hear that it closed. This year, our twins turned 30 and we wanted to make sure that we could celebrate with their favorite cakes, so we reached out to De’Ann who said yes, as she almost always does when it comes to requests. Ana made two cakes which were spectacular. Thank you Ana!!!
Finally, thank you to our entire staff. Please thank our staff and recognize them when you have the opportunity. They are the ones who assist, serve, prepare, and deliver our great experience at our club. Remember, it’s a difficult job and they are working when we are enjoying the summer and holiday events.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Looking forward to seeing you around the club.
2 June FROM THE DESK OF YOUR PRESIDENT
Christopher M. Myslow
My team and I are looking forward to speaking to all of you on Wednesday, June 7 when we host our TVCC Town Hall meeting. This will be a great forum for all members to have their voices heard on Club issues important to you while also providing the opportunity to interact with our management team and discuss further how our operations are performing to date.
The country club business has changed greatly over the past 10 years. But more specifically, this past year has brought with it some unforeseen challenges ranging from labor shortages to rising costs fueled by inflation pressures.
With that in mind, I want to take this opportunity to share my strategy about our operations here at Transit Valley.
Cost Control Implementation
Many of you participated in the annual meeting and voiced your concerns about cost controls. I took that message very seriously and now have instituted multiple programs for cost controls that had not been previously implemented – including detailed labor matrices, food and beverage audits, and competitive Request for Proposals (RFP’s) for vendor services.
I know that members are personally experiencing the rise in costs, but I assure you that those increases were only made as an adjustment to get the Club back on its best financial footing. Our goal is not to make a profit but merely to finish our fiscal year (on Oct. 31) by avoiding any substantial losses in select operational areas.
I work with the Board of Governors and the Finance Committee members on a monthly basis to ensure that our club finances are well cared for and properly managed. Thus far, I am happy to report we are performing ahead of budget.
Event Labor Challenges
Many of you also have inquired about the rising costs of golf events here at Transit Valley. The most direct answer that I can provide is that we have also experienced an exceptional rise in costs related to these events -- especially in the labor areas. TVCC essentially runs as a seven-day-a-week operation which does put us into overtime situations quite a bit. Since our labor pool has been somewhat shallow, we are asking more from our staff and that often results in these overtime situations. Thus, those labor costs must be factored into our price quotes. We also are finding that banquet and event planners are asking for custom packages for food and beverage. That requires us to charge appropriately as well.
Decisions Made for the “Greater Good”
As the General Manager and COO of Transit Valley Country Club, I take great pride in being a good steward of the Club’s money. Every financial decision here requires a detailed examination of what is in the best interest of all 446 individuals that I am entrusted to represent here. Many times, that may involve an unpopular outcome. But my daily task is determining what is for the “greater good” of the entire Club and how to keep everyone pleased with their experience here.
The support of the membership both financially and morally is extremely important to our entire operation. The Club stands on very good financial ground and I look forward to delivering solid financial results at the end of the season. I will do my best, as the Town Hall meeting will indicate, to continuously communicate with the membership and explain the decisions that are being made to make TVCC better each and every day.

WOMEN’S COMMITTEE
A Message from the Coach
Matt Thormahlen Director of Recreation & Tennis
We are truly looking forward to the best summer of tennis and pickleball that Transit Valley Country Club has ever experienced. Months have been spent on coming up with new ideas and “tweaking” old ones. It is our hope that we meet your recreational needs regardless of the program in which you or your child may be involved.
The last week of June is when most of our junior programming starts. We also have several adult tennis and pickleball programs this summer.
ADULT PROGRAMS
Our Wednesday Night Tennis/Pickleball program started on May 31st. If you just want to play doubles in either tennis or pickleball, come on out!!! This is always a fun night for ALL levels of players. No need to sign up…just show up!!
We have a Men’s Interclub Tennis event planned for Tuesday, June 20th from 6:00-7:30PM. Come out and enjoy an evening of competitive tennis against players from other local country clubs.
OUR PICKLEBALL INVITATIONAL DATE HAS CHANGED!!! The new date is one week later than previously advertised. It is now on Thursday, August 24th from 6-8:00 PM.
Junior Basketball and Junior Pickleball Clinics start on Monday, June 26th. The Junior Basketball programs run from 8:30 – 9:30 am (6-9 year old) and from 9:30 – 10:30 am (10 and over). The Junior Pickleball program runs from 10:30 –11:30 am.
Junior Tennis Clinics start on Tuesday, June 27th along with our Junior Interclub Team practices that start on the same day. If you haven’t signed up for any of our junior programs, it’s not a problem. Simply fill out the registration forms which are located on our website and we’ll be happy to add your child’s name to our programs.
Our Sports ‘n More program starts on Wednesday, June 21st at 5:45 PM. Sign your kids up and we’ll play a specific sport while you have dinner in the clubhouse. That first week will be golf!!!!
RECREATION & POOL
JUNIOR PROGRAMS
Just a reminder that if you invite a guest to play either tennis or pickleball, a member must be on the court with them. Every year, we have guests who show up and have indicated that they were told by a member that they could simply use our courts. It makes for an awkward situation as I inform them that the member must accompany them.
Each year I’m asked who are the adult tennis or pickleball players at Transit Valley. So, to “get players together” I am developing a list of men and women who play these sports. I’m including their name, which sport they play, a cell phone number, and their level of play (i.e. beginner, intermediate, advanced). This list will then be shared with those who sign up in hopes of facilitating open play. If you’re interested in adding your name to this list, please email Matt at matt@transitvalley.com with the aforementioned information and you’ll be connected with other players.

A Message from the Greens Superintendent
Adam Mis
We are moving into the summer months and the course is coming together. The irrigation contractor is moving along well and doing a great job cleaning up after an area is done. I will be highlighting the two irrigation plans regularly in the clubhouse to show their progress. This will give you an updated visual of where they have completed. Our biggest challenge is keeping the sod they put back in the work area watered until it can re-establish its roots. The plan is to install all the mainline pipes first, then install all the green surround pipes and sprinklers, and then start working each individual golf hole from tee boxes to approaches installing all lateral pipes and sprinklers. The large mainline pipe is dug with an excavator and all the pipes smaller than 4 inches will be pulled underground. Before and after pictures of main line work.
We are still working on the new tee construction of new trees and rerouting of cart paths per our architect’s design. These new additions will improve the playing experience for all skill levels. We also completed the area next to the putting green. This area will provide a spot for events that might want the use of a tent. We are super excited about this season. The contractor is working diligently to finish a huge infrastructure project that was much needed. This is a huge project, but we are doing our best to limit any inconvenience in enjoying the golf course and we thank you for your patience.

Members are encouraged to consider common sense when making casual-attire decisions. We prefer our members dressup rather than dress-down when visiting the Club. While we expect that members will use good taste and judgment, the Board has directed Club Management to discreetly review any inappropriate casual attire decisions directly with the member to ensure that the Club maintains a casual environment that is enjoyable for everyone.
Unacceptable Clubhouse Attire: Yoga pants, leggings,t-shirts, shorts, and athletic attire
