APRIL 2023

Marco F. Benedetti
I would like to welcome back those of you who wintered in a warmer climate. Hopefully, the sun will begin drying out the golf course and we can begin playing regularly. With the snow finally melting, we can look forward to starting the Irrigation Project and getting the pipes out of our parking lot and into the ground.
The Membership Committee and Tina have been busy following up with prospective families who have expressed an interest in joining TVCC. We look forward to having these guests tour the club in the coming months and get a first-hand look at the wonderful amenities that we offer our membership. If you have friends or colleagues who might have interest in joining a country club with a great family environment, please tell them about Transit Valley. Spring is a great time to attract new members.
The staff and committee chairs have started to plan our many golf tournaments and the registration for those events have opened. We look forward to great participation at those events and have had a history of selling them out, so please don’t hesitate to reserve your space.
I would like to thank Chris Myslow and Maggie Shotwell, our Treasurer, for working so hard on managing our finances. Below, is a brief update from Maggie on the first quarter results.
Maggie Shotwell, Treasurer Update
We are pleased to report that we are ahead of budget by $16,933 through the first quarter. Additionally, our full year projections forecast a positive of variance of $44,470 for the current fiscal year. We continue to monitor all financial aspects of the club and will provide another report after the second quarter.
I look forward to seeing everyone around the club. Thank you for your continued support.
2 April FROM THE DESK OF YOUR PRESIDENT
Christopher M. Myslow
As Spring arrives here at Transit Valley Country Club, we are ready to launch an exciting new season for our members and your families. As part of being one of the most attractive lifestyle venues in Western New York, I am pleased to announce several major capital project developments that you will see upon returning to TVCC:
1. The highly-needed and membership-approved golf course irrigation project will begin in mid-April. As work is staggered from hole-to-hole, we are anticipating minimal interruption to member play and, weather-permitting, full completion within six to eight weeks.
2. The main swimming pool filters have been replaced and maintained and are all ready for the 2023 season. We are also power washing the pool and retiling a few surfaces.
3. The ballroom carpet has been replaced. Special thanks to Eric Balsom for helping us expedite this project.
4. In April, we will be power washing the tennis courts to remove the staining that is commonly seen.
5. A contractor will also be repairing the cracked surfaces of the upper tennis courts and will clean that surface for play.
6. The men’s steam room will have been completely sealed and retiled. This is a noticeable upgrade to a much-used asset.
7. Adam Mis’ team is already on the golf course continuing to work on the tee project as well as getting the course ready for play.
As you can see, we have had a very busy off-season and continue to invest our capital funds wisely. The goal is to always improve your member experience at TVCC and that all begins with having outstanding facilities.
In other news, I want to point out that our Club’s financial performance has been solid through the first quarter. Though I have only been here for a brief time, I am very thankful for my team’s efforts to keep costs in line.
I also had to make some difficult off-season decisions regarding the days and nights of restaurant operations. Those decisions have paid off and have saved the Club a great deal of money. I will continue to work with the Board of Governors and the Finance Committee to ensure the best financial decisions are made for the greater good of the Club.
Another financial influencer is membership. Membership growth is always the lifeblood of a successful club. As usual, Tina is doing an amazing job of meeting applicants and introducing them to all of the incredible assets here at TVCC. Given this activity, we are very confident that we will meet our 2023 membership goals.
Our market branding strategy of being a family friendly club that is welcoming to all is continuing to pay big dividends. Your investments here at Transit Valley make this a relatively easy selling point for prospective members and we thank you all for that.

This year, children will be joining their group of counselors waiting on the turf.
Children are divided into age groups: 3-4 year olds, 5-6 year olds, 7-8 year olds and 9-10 year olds. Each group has assigned counselors so that children can build rapport with staff, and they can be easily transitioned to activities around the club. In addition to helping your child prepare for and attend their lessons, we also offer a variety of group games and activities including: Crafts, Coloring, Painting, Relay Races, Yard & Board Games, Water Play, Parachute Play, Legos, Science Experiments & Playground Time.
During their time with us, children will be provided with three kid-friendly meals: Breakfast, Snack, and Lunch. We are also proud to announce that we will be hosting a variety of community members exclusively for Kids’ Club members. They include:

A Message from the Women’s Committee Paula Orlowski President
Spring is finally here, and there are several club events and activities planned throughout the month of April, and in the upcoming months. Don’t forget to sign up for The Women’s Annual Spring Dinner and Soirée on Tuesday, April 25th and the Meet and Eat Charcuterie on Thursday, May 18th.
In addition to these great entertainment events, the golf season will be kicking off in May. Please join us on May 4th for Women’s Opening Day. This is a fun day whether you play 9 or 18 holes, and golfers of all skill levels are encouraged and welcome to play. Please refer to the individual Divot articles for details on all entertainment and golf events.
It is already that time of the year where we start thinking about candidates to fill the positions of our Women’s Committee Members rotating off for the 2023-2024 term. Each year the nomination process takes place late Spring through early Summer for a Fall induction of new members. Typically, three members’ terms expire, and three new ladies are installed as committee members. Recommended criteria for candidates include a time commitment to serve for three years as well as attending monthly meetings on a regular basis. You will work as part of a team and help generate ideas for events and activities while advancing the well-being of TVCC and the interests of women of the club.
I encourage all ladies of the club to consider the Women’s Committee. I am thankful for the experience and especially grateful for the opportunity to create new friendships. If you are interested, please contact me, or any member of our Committee, and we will be happy to discuss this opportunity with you in more detail. I hope to hear from many of you!
Welcome, ladies to a Ne W Year of Golf!
As golf chairs, we are looking forward to meeting more of you on the links this year with a couple new events aimed at golfers of all levels!
Consider joining us for these events in May:
• May 4th is our Opening Day for both 9 and 18 holers!
• May 17th will be our first “Wine Down Wednesday” where we will begin teeing off around 5:00 pm for 9 holes of fun play for all abilities; the Pro Shop will set the foursomes! We hope this will be a great way to meet new players and share a glass of wine after!
• May 18th will be a Ladies’ Mixer.
We also have these season long events:
• A ringers contest! There will be cards available in the Ladies’ locker room where you can mark down your best gross score on each hole every time you play! At the end of the season we will see who had the lowest gross 9 and 18 holes.
• Member-member play composed of 4 rounds throughout the season. Choose to play in either the 9 or 18 hole division.
• President’s Cup, which consists of individual match play with handicap.
Signup for events is available through ForeTees or the Golf Shop! Contact either of us if you need help; we welcome any comments and suggestions on our Ladies’ golf program!

A Message from The Golf Professional Jonathan Decker, PGA
Head Golf Professional
The spring is here and so is the start of the 2023 golf season. Hopefully many of you will have gotten out for your first round of the year prior to reading this or are planning to do so soon. We anticipate another strong year in terms of activity on the golf course and early season event registration currently reflects this prediction. Please register in advance to secure your place in your favorite events. If you are interested in playing in an event but looking for a partner, please consider signing up as a single and notify the Golf Shop that you are on the market. My staff and I will do our best to help make a match of any single players. After reviewing our tee time lottery system over the winter, the Golf Committee approved moving the weekday lottery to be published five days in advance, an increase from three days. Weekend lottery results will now be published three days in advance for both Saturday and Sunday, as well as Monday holidays. We believe this change will help making planning your rounds easier going forward and create a better experience for our members and their guests.

A Message from the Greens Superintendent
Adam Mis
The weather is slowly warming up. We have a number of projects to complete this spring and are just waiting until we receive more consistent drier weather to move some soil into certain locations. We have new tees to move soil to and get ready for the irrigation install around those areas.
Our irrigation contractor will be on-site the middle of April to start the project. The weather this spring in the northeast has delayed their arrival, but once they are here things will start moving quickly. We will be providing more frequent updates once the contractor arrives.
The golf course has weathered the winter very well. We had a month of ice cover on the course, but we have not experienced any noticeable damage.
We are very fortunate that almost all of our grounds staff are returning from last season. This will provide great consistency in what we are trying to accomplish moving forward.

Country Club appropriate denim is defined as properly sized, in excellent condition, and dark in color(white or black denim is also acceptable). Country Club appropriate denim does not include holes or rips, fading or stonewash look, frayed material, denim shorts, jackets, skirts, dresses, work type denim shirts, or jeans that are worn extremely low cut. Tasteful and appropriate shirts and shoes must be worn. For men, denim must be paired with any tucked-in and collared shirt, sport coat or sweater. Country Club Attire is also deemed appropriate which is defined as: Bermuda length shorts, sundresses, collared shirts for men and appropriate women’s attire.
1921 Room (Previously the Formal Dining Room) & Ballroom
Country Club Attire will be acceptable consisting of collared shirts for men and appropriate women’s attire. Sport coats are optional but encouraged.
The intent is to not allow denim. However, denim will be permissible if the Grill Room has reached its maximum capacity.
Club/Special Events
Dress codes will be defined for all Club/Special Events and will be communicated in the newsletter
Members are encouraged to consider common sense when making casual-attire decisions. We prefer our members dressup rather than dress-down when visiting the Club. While we expect that members will use good taste and judgment, the Board has directed Club Management to discreetly review any inappropriate casual attire decisions directly with the member to ensure that the Club maintains a casual environment that is enjoyable for everyone.
Unacceptable Clubhouse Attire: Yoga pants, leggings,t-shirts, shorts, and athletic attire
