Our This year’s awards were themed as ‘Dancing on Ice’ and everybody made the effort to dress to impress! Our Senior Leadership Team faced the new theme head on and with coaching from this year’s Dancing on Ice Celebrity and partner (Mollie Gallagher and Sylvain Longchambon), and we think they did alright... https://youtu.be/7n6Nw2_hwJk

The night began with a glass of bubbly on arrival, and it wasn’t long before the awards got underway. Drinks and canapes at half time were enjoyed by all and the cheers for the winners just got louder and louder. As the awards themselves came to an end and the grand prize raffle completed, the party continued for the rest of the evening with a full dance floor until the curtains came down at 12.30am. An amazing night, please take a look through our special one-off insight addition.

A big thank you to Heather Gaulton who took lead with her team Morgan Gardner and Leonie Welford for organising and putting together this amazing night, without you, and your talent and time the staff awards would not have happened. The feedback following the night shows that truly everyone had a wonderful night. Until the next time...

The nominees were:

The Customer Hub Team (Christopher Marsh/Diane Senescall/Alison Dowson/Brenda McCann/Callum Scott/Shonagh Strachan). Taking service previously delivered face to face to over the phone/digital is not easy, but for this team they have demonstrated how great service can be provided, still personal and friendly but in a different way. The Hub always gives 100% to our customers and continue to go the extra mile. Always positive and drive the business. Throughout challenging times they remain upbeat and positive, ensuring customers are spoken to in a timely manner.

Earlyn Stoddart - Kids Leisure Attendant at Stretford Sports Village

Since returning after covid Earlyn has helped our tiny ted sessions once again. With new energy and ideas, and with every session she sings her heart out with the kids. The adults/parents say this is the best part of the session. Going one step further, Earlyn has started learning sign language to help engage with our children with a hearing disability.

James West - Club & Membership Relationship Officer at Altrincham Golf Course

It’s been a challenging few year for James but you would never know it. I have never seen James not have a smile and a warm greeting for our customers, it can be minus degrees, raining, snowing, flooding – you name it we feel all the elements but James – just warmth and great customer experience.

Matthew Memory - Lifeguard & Leisure Assistant at Sale Leisure Centre

Matthew is enthusiastic and a pleasure to work with and putting the customer first just seems so natural for him. Just before ALC closure, Matthew went out of his way to help an elderly gentleman from Alt Golf to ALC and arranged for him to go home. Nothings to much trouble to ensure the customer is happy.

Nathan Fleury - Senior Leisure Assistant at Sale Leisure Centre

Nathan is a shining example of customer service setting an example to all. He goes above and beyond for every customer treating everyone individually but fairly. Customers actually go out of their way to tell you about Nathan, helpful, approachable, always smiling and willing to help. He has the best customer service of anyone, he is polite and respectful, making sure he has done his upmost to help the customer with any enquiry they have. He will go out of his way to show them anything they ask and never make them feel rushed or a burden. When it comes to customer care, I can confidently say I have never worked or met anyone who is so polite and well-mannered to our customers as Nathan is.

Brian Wright - Senior Leisure Assistant at Stretford Sports Village

Brian has continued to excel in his job role, I’ve never met anyone with a mind like Brian’s! In a good way! He regularly comes up with simple solutions to problems that affect both customers and staff. These helps streamline things and create a better customer experience and help staff too. The solutions that he comes up with can be organising where equipment is setup/stored, suggesting changing pool times etc. If anyone needs advice or help, they go to Brian.

Nicky

Lowe - Swim Will Manager at Sale Leisure Centre

You certainly need to be solution focussed when it came to solutions need for moving over 2000 swimmers and parents. Nicky has worked tirelessly to come up with the solution to transfer the whole swim programme from Altrincham to Sale during the transition. And to work with both the staff and customers to make sure this happened as seamlessly as possible. Nicky also let us see where we could use existing changing facilities at Sale for the Altrincham customers saving us time and money having to create a new entrance and hire extra cabins. Excellent solutions all round. Nicky is never phased by anything. Real can-do solutions focussed person.

Rachel Brindley - Health & Fitness Instructor at Stretford Sports Village

Rachel continually supports the leisure manager in the running of the Stretford Talbot especially as the football season begins and we have a larger than normal amount of enquiries. Everyone’s football team is the most important! With face-to-face conversations and phone calls made going above and beyond. Rachel simplified the bookings and has a great approach in ensuring our customers receive high standards. She never shies away from chasing debt, creative in her approach. Thank you Rachel.

Stephen Darroch - Assistant Manager at Sale Leisure Centre

Stephen is an absolute shiny star. His work ethic is unquestionable, no job is too big or too small. Over the past year he stepped up to assistant manager at sale to cover illness, he happily took the reins on football development and made it his own very quickly, engaging the teams and making lots of headway financially. The processes he has put in place for this area of the business are robust and can easily be passed over to anyone taking on this role in the future. When the Swimwell Manager handed in his notice, Stephen stepped in and took on one of the biggest changes that has happened to our programme. Stephen is unphased by change and works when needed to drive the business and creates practical and tangible solutions for the greater good.

It has been a pleasure watching his personal and professional growth. Josh has shined during the budget process, as his manager I had to lean on him when I was off sick, he didn’t question or complain about his extra workload and stepped in and supported the FD Emma throughout the process. All who have worked with Josh during this process have personally thanked him and highlighted to me as his manager how approachable and helpful he is.

He was the first person in Trafford Leisure to use Microsoft forms to collate instant customer feedback. On the back of this success, we now use this across the business, in fact this nomination process for staff awards is off the back of Chris’s innovation. I look forward to seeing what other innovative and creative solutions Duncan can create.

Innovation Award

With Heather Gaulton’s innovation at the start of the first lockdown in 2020, Heather came up with the idea to quickly keep our customers and potential customers engaged and help keep our community moving. Heather organised for a team to deliver classes from their home by going live on Facebook with a live workout plan for the team to get involved in.

The instructors (Pete Lockwood, Tracey Davenport, Lisa Middleton, Jonathon Chinca, Sinead Ferguson, Nicola Payne, Alison Kelly, Melissa Buckley, Ian Sheriff) delivered classes from their homes and gardens, embracing the tech for the first time for the benefit of our customers, community and staff. They continued to change content, even involve family members and the odd pet. Trafford Leisure had a voice and a presence whilst we remained closed, up to 21 classes a week at one point and was a big reason why so many of our customers continued to pay for the first three months of closing. Our Facebook page jumped from 2k follows to 6k followers within a year!

Sally has been absolutely fantastic with my boys they both love their lessons with her every week. She has gone above and beyond just the teaching of swimming - Sally has taught my 2 children to swim through to rookie life guard, sally recognised one of my daughters potential, highlighting she thought she would make a good swim teacher. Long story short a year later my daughter was volunteering at 15 and has now recently completed her level 1 and the support and care from Sally is the reason she has achieved this.

My daughter started attending volunteering but after the first 2 times without me there to support her, she started to panic, I collected an extremely anxious child up on the second time, I returned the same night and spoke in great detail to Sally about this and how I would struggle to get her to come back to the centre, I coaxed my daughter to give it one last go and she went the next week, Struggling with severe social anxiety as she started to volunteer meant she wanted to stop. Sally said she would do everything in her powers to stop this young lady from bolting and make her feel at ease, this is a child who never returned to a class room and had to be home schooled, Sally listened carefully to Abbie and what they could put in place to help, I was in complete shock it worked, Abbie 6 months on has now passed her level 1 teaching Assistant and is just about to do her level 2 in February and life guard training also booked in for February. Thank you, Sally, I have a happy young lady and our family are extremely grateful.
