So, alongside the reminder of our brilliant people who won awards and, of course, the memorable photos, what else can I update you on?
With the closing of this year, we will, for the first time, produce a look-back-over-the-last-12months report and video, sharing what we have achieved against our outcomes and targets I am blown away by the success since we launched our new strategy last summer, and a couple of highlights stand out for me.

I know that you and our customers are eager to know the opening date of Move Altrincham. I recently carried out a shift at Sale Leisure Centre and experienced firsthand the questions from customers. I know it isn’t easy; I must be asked at least 20 times per day myself - but stay positive, we are almost there We’ve waited an awful long time for this centre to be refurbished (20 years for me), and we will forget this feeling once we have the date and we open Just keep advising that it’s coming soon, and I will ensure that you - the people who will run it and bring it to life - are the first to know move Altrincham
Back to the Floor
I’ve reintroduced the 'Back to the Floor' initiative, where I personally spend a day at one of our centres, stepping into the shoes of one of our team members to gain firsthand insight into the operations and experiences on the ground. The following are the scheduled days for this initiative:

Thursday 10th April 2025 - Swim Teacher, Stretford Leisure Centre
Wednesday 14th May 2025 - Golf Shop and Customer Hub

What do you enjoy most about being a team member at Trafford Leisure? What do you find challenging or frustrating about your role? If you could change one thing about working here, what would it be?
Your feedback is essential as we continue to improve and create a better workplace for everyone I’m looking forward to these conversations and hearing your ideas for making Trafford Leisure an even better place to work

Read more here
We’ve taken an important step in how we deliver leisure services From now on, we are officially acting as an agent on behalf of Trafford Council for leisure delivery

Ensures we’re operating in the most financially efficient way
Frees up more resources to invest back into services and the community
Don’t worry – day-to-day operations won’t change. The only noticeable update will be for General Managers and their site administrators, who’ll receive guidance on how to list non-sporting activities and block bookings in Gladstone.
 Final Focus
Finance is working closely with Craig Lomas, Bev Hinnigan, and their teams to ensure the smooth and successful financial launch of Move Altrincham We’re here to bring the business plan, budget, and vision to life – together.
 Fun Finance Fact: The Word
“Budget”
Comes from a Bag
The word budget comes from the Old French word “bougette,” which means little bag It referred to the leather pouch used to carry money – like an ancient version of your wallet or finance spreadsheet!

Volunteering Case Studies
Volunteer Case Study
Eva, 51, became a volunteer with Trafford Leisure following a personal health journey. She explains why she joined the volunteer programme and the ongoing positive impact Trafford Leisure has had on her wellbeing.
Eva says: “My GP referred me to Trafford Leisure in September 2023 due to some health issues, recommending exercise to help improve my overall health I was initially nervous, as stepping into a leisure centre felt outside my comfort zone
“However, I didn’t need to worry Everyone at the weekly Physical Activity Referral (PAR) class was really friendly, and the instructor made everyone feel welcome They provided plenty of alternative exercises and tailored movements to meet individual mobility and fitness needs, even offering seated options
“On completing the 12-week PAR, I really noticed a difference in my joints, mobility and overall fitness levels, so I continued coming to Stretford Leisure Centre and I’ve not looked back I now continue to attend the weekly PAR class on a Friday morning, as well as coming to the gym a couple of times each week
“The health referral was transformative to my overall wellbeing, so when I was approached to become a Trafford Leisure volunteer I jumped at the chance, as I wanted to give something back to my community. Trafford Leisure had made a difference to my life, now I can help make that difference to others.”
Eva explains: “I work four days a week in the Blood Transfusion Laboratory at a large Trauma Hospital as a Section Manager biomedical scientist; it’s a very busy, full-on job. However, on my day off on a Friday I now volunteer at Stretford Leisure Centre. It’s a very different environment in comparison to my Monday to Thursday.
“As a Trafford Leisure volunteer, I help the instructor set up the PAR class, welcome people to the session, and support anyone if they are struggling I hope I can be an inspiration to others, because if I can complete the referral programme and continue to make progress, then so can others I understand how anxious some people can feel about exercise, especially if you have poor health or are coming back from an injury As a volunteer, I am there to reassure, support and encourage Plus, I make the all-important teas and coffees for our post ‘work out’ sociable chat
“Coming to Stretford Leisure Centre has been so beneficial for me I love the routine of attending classes and using the gym It's such a friendly and welcoming environment I’d encourage anyone who enjoys meeting people and supporting others to consider volunteering at Trafford Leisure as the volunteer programme expands ”
