After three years trying to consolidate York City in Division Four, season 1991-92 proved no easier for John Bird and he was dismissed as manager with John Ward taking over the difficult task. Towards the end of the season, York had won only seven of their 36 matches and
were languishing fourth from the bottom of the table. Their visitors on April 11, 1992 were Hereford, who were only three places higher,
and York managed to pull off a 1-0 victory to give them their eighth League win with a goal from Ian Blackstone. However, it was to prove their last win of the season and they picked up only one more point from their final five games though still managed to finish fourth from the bottom of the table with 40 points. The average home attendance for the season almost matched the previous one at just over 2,500.
Ian Blackstone finished top goalscorer with 11 League and Cup goals and was joint League scorer with Gary Naylor on eight goals. www.tooab.com
