Core Words of the Month: Potty Diaper Water
Check it out as the world of blocks & building meets Global Gull! In this experience, teachers have taken our monthly word cards and mixed them into the block-building area, inviting kids to grab wooden blocks and try to build each word. It's not just about learning new words; it's also a chance to explore math concepts like shapes, patterns, and counting. Watch as the magic unfolds!"
We’ve never seen The Three Little Pigs quite like this before! After reading the story together, teachers set the stage with all the tools and materials needed to allow young children to retell and role play the story themselves. In this experience children get an opportunity to grow their critical thinking skills, use their imagination, and engage in some important language and literacy development such as reading comprehension and building expressive language skills as they tell the story their own way. Now this is FUN!
How about planting a garden? Here's how you can go about it:
Choose a Location: Pick a spot in your yard or a suitable area for a garden. Make sure it gets enough sunlight and has good drainage.
Select Plants: Decide what you want to grow. You could choose flowers, vegetables, herbs, or a combination of all three. Consider what grows well in your climate and what your family will enjoy.
Prepare the Soil: Work together to prepare the soil by removing any weeds, rocks, or debris. Loosen the soil to allow room for roots to grow.
Plant the Seeds or Seedlings: Depending on what you've chosen to grow, plant seeds or seedlings according to the instructions on the packets or tags. Make sure to space them appropriately and plant them at the correct depth.
Water and Care for the Garden: Set up a watering schedule and assign family members tasks like watering, weeding, and checking for pests. Make it a routine to spend time in the garden together, nurturing the plants and watching them grow.
Watch it Grow: As the days pass, monitor your garden's progress. Take photos to track the growth and celebrate milestones together.
Harvest and Enjoy: When your plants are ready to be harvested, gather them together as a family. Whether it's picking flowers, harvesting vegetables, or clipping herbs, enjoy the fruits of your labor together.
Mealtimes offer great opportunities to introduce and practice skills such as identifying colors and shapes!
During mealtimes, young children are surrounded by foods of various colors, shapes, characteristics, and even from different food groups. This can be a great opportunity to expose them to different colors, shapes, and methods for sorting and classifying foods. It also makes for a great opportunity to incorporate fun activities that support color and shape identification for kids.
Here are some creative ways parents can do this:
Use colorful plates and utensils: Serve meals using plates, bowls, and utensils in different colors. Encourage your child to identify the colors of their plate, cup, and utensils.
Play with food shapes: Cut fruits, vegetables, and sandwiches into different shapes using cookie cutters. Let your child help and talk with them about each shape.
