What is International Literacy Day?

International Literacy Day is on September 8 and was first established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1967. It is a global celebration of the power of reading and writing. It’s a day to recognize that literacy is a fundamental human right, one that strengthens individuals, families, and communities. We’ll be celebrating by engaging in fun, meaningful activities that inspire a love of reading and learning in our children every day.
