Our school chose AARF because they help to improve the health of the pet community that in turn improves the health of our entire community. Our families got involved by donating supplies such as: food, treats, toys, bedding, and cleaning supplies. The children are so excited that they are helping the animals!
Carly, the facility owner took Ms. Mackenzie and I (Ashleigh Meyers, Director of The Nest Schools Winston Salem) on a walk-through of their space, showing us the various areas where their work takes place. One of the areas was where they care for kittens until they get adopted. Another area was their food storage where all of the food we are dontaing to them will go. The food bank provides support to families in need, helping them care for and keep their adopted pets.
AARF spoke to us about how they offer in-house spay and neutering as a way to help keep the pet population healthy. By the time our tour came to an end, it was evident that the staff is deeply dedicated to giving back and making a difference for animals.

Even on busy days, a small moment of calm can make a big difference. Try one of these quick resets today:
One-Minute Mindful Breathing:
Close your eyes. Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. Repeat.
Step Outside:
Take a 5-minute walk or simply stand in the sun. Fresh air = fresh energy.
Hydrate Check:
Take a sip of water right now. You’re doing your body a favor!
Mood Booster:
Put on a song that makes you smile. Dance break optional, but encouraged.

In a field where your heart is your greatest tool, it’s easy to pour every ounce of energy into the little ones in your care. But remember your well-being matters just as much. You can only give your best when you feel your best. So take a deep breath and give yourself the same kindness and patience you so freely offer to others. You deserve it.

compassionate, and informative Mentoring Style
Fact
I like to journal and read.
ding about being a mentor?
I simply just ask them how they have been and how they are feeling. Ask if everything has been okay and what they might need from me today. Even share a detail or two about my day remind them that we are all in it together.

Just being of service and helping someone feel more comfortable or at ease when they would have otherwise been very overwhelmed or nervous. Sometime s people just need to feel noticed and feel like they matter.
How has the mentor program impacted your school?
The same as what's listed above. Just to watch new hires blossom and excel because they feel confident and because they've been empowered by another.
What inspired you to become a mentor?
I wish I had a mentor when I first started in this field. I had to wing it, I was thrown in a classroom and had to learn on my own and in turn had to unlearn a lot once I knew better.
What is your most memorable mentoring moment?
I had someone tell me that I make them feel safe.
What advice do you give your mentees?
Just breathe and don't be afraid to ask for help. We all have been in your shoes.

In this fun activity we took simple ingre this hands-on project we created fizzy volcanos with different colors. We provided our children with different opportunities to try and think about different predictions as to what might happen. This activity helped us introduce new concepts and vocabulary words. We were able to talk about what patterns we saw and what would happen if we added more ingredients or took some ingredients away. The children really enjoyed this fun activity.

Through reading and discussion, we explored how things moved and why. Let’s think back to all the cool ways we used force and motion in our play! When we pushed the cars back and forth, did they move fast or gently? When we build a ramp with cardboard boxes and blocks, what happened when we pushed the cars and balls down the ramp? We used feathers to show that force doesn’t have to be strong, it can be soft and gentle. We also showed force through gravity during our water play. We discovered how the force of weight changes how the toy moves in water (sink or float).

Materials: Rocks & Fossils, Scale Rulers, Magnifiers, Microscopes, Sand, and Sifters
Directions: We had an awesome time sorting, weighing, measuring, sifting, and taking a closer look at rocks/gems/fossils. Our friends visited 6 stations geared around the job of a geologist!
Station 1: Fossil examining
Station 2: Rock measuring

Station 3: Using Microscopes
Station 4: Weighing Rocks
Station 5: Mining for Gems
Station 6: Sorting Rocks & Gems
As the children rotated through the stations, they made observations about size, appearance, weight, shape, length, and color. They employed several scientific methods, including examining, formulating hypotheses, testing ideas an theories, and recording data. 12

ieve your goals?
The program certification has significantly contributed to my career goals by providing me the opportunity to advance my education and experience in the ECE field. The impact on my career and personal growth has been substantial, pushing me to enhance my classroom experiences, provide elevated education for my students, and grow my confidence as a teacher.
What was the most valuable part of the program for you?
The program's most valuable features are the ability to complete the coursework on my own time and that I am able to control which courses I choose to complete. I am able to take the knowledge gained from this program, and continue my work as an ECE professional, but to a higher degree. Holding myself to the highest standards inside and outside of the classroom is always my goal, and obtaining my CDA has supported me in this.
What would you say to someone considering the program?
In recommending this outstanding program to someone uncertain about its fit, I would stress the ease of accessing classes required to complete the 120-hour necessity, a process that proved to be remarkably straightforward. I would reassure them that this program is very user-friendly, is a self-paced, has laid out coursework for you, an gives you a step-up from coworkers and other ECE professionals.

Please take a moment to share why you work in early childhood education. Share your experiences, your fond memories, your passion, your commitment to children and this field of work.

“We absolutely love this daycare! Our daughter has been so well cared for, and it's been amazing to see how much she's grown and developed since starting here. The staff are so caring and attentive, and they've created a wonderfulenvironment where she feels safe and happy.”

“Since the very first day we toured, the staff answered all our questions, were very pleasant and very much love the children they serve. The classes are clean and organized. As a parent working in healthcare they prioritize health and safety along with work with early morning drop offs and long days without judgement. They do a lot of different activities with the babies including outside time. The Procare app is super helpful to feel informed while they also provide the cutest of photos to help you feel more connected during the day. I feel very confident that my child is in good hands while there which we are so appreciative of!”
