From the Artistic Director, Rick Fortney -- Welcome to The Pajama Game! -Thank you for coming to today’s performance. We’re excited to be the home of the Sleep Tite Pajama Factory.

The Pajama Game, Book by George Abbott & Richard Bissell is based on a novel 7 ½ Cents by Richard Bissell. This timeless musical has delighted audiences since it first opened on Broadway in 1955. Sparks fly at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory as union leader Babe Williams lobbies the superintendent Sid Sorokin for a 7 ½ cent raise for the workers. Things come to a head when Babe organizes a strike, setting off a conflict of workers versus management as well as a battle of the sexes. With an energetic score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross (Damn Yankees), The Pajama Game flaunts a slew of upbeat musical standards including ‘Steam Heat’ and ‘Hernando’s Hideaway’. The show won the Tony for Best Musical for its original 1955 production, and was nominated for Best Revival of a Musical in 2006, proving that classics never go out of style!

Our annual TrueNorth Patriotic Concert featuring The TrueNorth Chorale and Chamber Orchestra will be on Sunday, July19, 7:30 p.m., at Lakeview Park, the Opening Concert for Lorain County Metro Park’s ‘Music Under the Stars’ outdoor summer concert series. The concert has been moved from the original June date to July 19th due to rain.

From the Director of the Lorain County Metro Parks Welcome to YOUR Lorain County Metro Parks! We hope you enjoy The Pajama Game from TrueNorth. As the 2014-2015 MainStage comes to a close, we hope you have a great time!

On behalf of Lorain County Metro Parks, I want to personally invite you to a variety of activites and happenings throughout the park district this summer season. Regardless of where you live, we have an exciting event for you!

Also make sure to be on the lookout for Summer Camps brochures or find information on our website regarding dates, locations and times for each camp. Director’s Notes When first approached about directing The Pajama Game, we, like so many, thought this was a piece of golden age musical theatre that was well past its prime. There was concern about how we were going to connect today’s audiences with such a dated piece.

After burying ourselves in the script, we were pleasantly surprised to find the many, extremely relevant messages this 1950’s piece holds for a 2015 audience.

We could ask you to spend the next couple hour focusing on the political statements behind asking for a cost of living raise, the constant battle of the sexes in the workplace, the pros and cons of labor unions, or workplace relationships but we’re not going to.

Instead, we would like to introduce you to Babe Williams. Babe is a woman for all times. Not only does she hold a significant position within her labor union, but she is unquestioned and extremely respected by the employees around her, male and female. However, Babe presents to us the struggle that many of us face every day; the struggle to balance our personal and professional passions. Babe has spent most of her adult life focused on work. Her passions are justified and respectable, but her entire existence is enveloped by them. When Sid arrives, her eyes are opened to a side of life that she had forgotten about.

Whether its children, a relationship, work, or a hobby, the ability to find the balance that keeps you and those you love happy can be quite the battle. Babe joins us on that battlefield in the struggle to find at least one way to balance all the passions of our lives. Whatever we’re lacking, balance or 7 ½ cents, it might not be much but when provided on a regular basis over a large period of time we can all find ourselves living like kings.

Biographies

Cast Brett Hall (Sid Sorokin) This is Brett’s seventh show at TrueNorth, the first being Working (‘08) and the most recent as Fred Gailey in Miracle on 34th Street (‘11).

And how this place has changed! It has been a treat to come here over the years and see what wonderful shows Rick and the gang continue to produce. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful venue, surrounded by nature. After touring the US and overseas in various productions and living in a myriad of places over the years, Brett decided to return home, to the place he grew up and loves.

Aside from his involvement with cruise ships, resorts and amusement parks, some of his favorite theater credits have been as Gaston in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast; Emile de Becque in South Pacific, younger brother in Ragtime, the Musical; Capt Corcoran in Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore; Franklin Hart, Jr in 9 To 5, The Musical, and Thomas Jefferson in 1776.

Cassandra Mears (Babe Williams) This is Cassandra’s first show with TrueNorth and she is thrilled to be walking in Doris Day’s footsteps, especially with an exhilarating cast!

Prior to The Pajama Game, she was seen as Fiona in Shrek: The Musical at Near West and worked Pg. 16 at Ensemble Theatre in

The Neverending Story, portrayed Myrtle in The Great Gatsby, and was the A s s i s t a n t Director for Anna Christie.

She has also been seen around Cleveland in A Chorus Line as Val, and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as Rona.

Before Cleveland she has performed around Charleston in Pippin (Player), Grease, The Fantasticks (Luisa), and The Producers. She would like to thank her family and friends, old and new, for being supportive beyond belief as she sprints towards her dreams and figures it all out!

Kevin Cline (Vernon Hines) is thrilled to be returning to the TrueNorth stage and getting the opportunity to work with this astoundingly talented cast and crew! He most recently appeared in Seussical at the Brecksville Little Theater and has appeared in Jesus Christ Superstar and A Christmas Story: The Musical at True North. When not stunned at finding himself onstage, and realizing how incredibly lucky he is to be there, he can be found boring his friends with useless entertainment trivia. Kevin wants to send a special Thank You to his parents, who bought him his first pair of pajamas, and kept him well

Biographies supplied throughout his teenage years! He particularly liked the footie ones he wore as a baby and would appreciate knowing where to get a pair.

J e n n i f e r Justice (Gladys Hotchkiss) happily makes her TrueNorth performance debut in The Pajama Game.

She loves the Fosse. Jennifer has been working in the area as a performer and choreographer for nearly twenty years. Favorite performance credits include Chicago (Roxie Hart), A Chorus Line (Cassie), Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey), You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown (Sally), and Children of Eden (Aysha/Snake). As a choreographer, Jennifer’s work has appeared onstage at Lakeland Civic Theatre, Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, Brecksville Theatre On The Square, The Fine Arts Association, and Pickwick & Frolic. Favorite choreography credits include Chicago, Pippin, Hairspray, Shrek, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Gypsy, Seussical, Damn Yankees and The Producers. Many thanks to the cast and crew for being quite awesome people.

Matt Cuffari (Prez) is excited to return to TrueNorth where he recently portrayed King Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar. Other recent credits include Mr. Weber/Kringeline in Gypsy at the Lorain Palace, Ewart Dunlop in LCMT’s The Music Man,

and The Wizard in MGP’s Once Upon A Mattress.

Favorite roles include Father in Children of Eden and Mr. Hart in 9 to 5: The Musical, both performed at Sandstone Summer Theater in Amherst.

BJ Colangelo (Mabel) is excited to make her TrueNorth debut!

An import from the Chicagoland area, BJ has been seen as BJ in Godspell (Cain Park), Mayzie in Seussical and Princess Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress (Mighty Goliath Productions), Diwata in Speech in Debate (Arts4Equality Inc.), Angel in When You Comin’ Back Red Ryder?, Columbia in The Rocky Horror Show, Cathy in HAIR, Felicia Dantine in I Hate Hamlet, (Western Illinois University), Cleanin’ Woman in Working, Gina in Who Will Carry The Word?, and The Witch in ...And They All Lived (Encore Players Theatre). When she’s not performing, she’s an award winning horror film journalist and theorist featured in numerous publications and the cofounder of Sickening Pictures film production company.

She dedicates this performance to her parents who dealt with years of offkey belting, and terrible baton costumes to get her to where she is today.

Biographies Gabbi Capello (Mae) is making her debut on the TrueNorth Stage.

She is extremely excited to be performing with so many talented faces.

This Cleveland native is no stranger to performing and has been dancing and singing in shows from a very young age. Favorite credits include Seussical the Musical (Gertrude), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Logainne), Fiddler on the Roof (Chava), Children of Eden (Serpent), The Mystery of Edwin (Beatrice) and Shrek the Musical (Fairy Godmother).

As always, Gabbi would like to thank her Mom, family. and friends for all of their support and would like to thank Doug, Jessica, Lawrence and Nicci for the opportunity to be part of such a special show.

Luther Pete Robinson (Mr. Hassler) is a filmmaker, actor, writer, director, and proud Marine. He has performed and worked in Washington D.C., Atlanta, Virginia and Hollywood, as well as in many Cleveland theaters, including Karamu House and TrueNorth. Film credits include KING (Production Assistant), The Hurst (Assistant Director), and Body and Soul (Assistant Director).

Television Pg. 18 credits include Cagney

& Lacy and 240 Robert. Pete has most recently appeared on stage at TrueNorth in Driving Miss Daisy, Jesus Christ Superstar and Road to Freedom. His most exciting recent accomplishment is writing his second screenplay.

Spencer Riley (Charlie) is back for his third appearance on the TrueNorth stage, having appeared in the recent productions of A Christmas Story: The Musical (Chorus) and Jesus Christ Superstar (Simon Zealotes). Spencer is a 2014 graduate of Marietta College, where he received a BFA in Theater. Favorite roles include Mr. Collins in Pride and Prejudice, the Lion in The Wizard of Oz, Hysterium in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Peter in At Home at the Zoo, and Shahryar in The Arabian Nights, to name a few. He would like to thank his friends and family for their love and support, and hopes you enjoy the show!

Natalie Barkacs (Poopsie) returns to the stage for the first time since her acting debut twenty years ago in a children’s performance of (deja vu) The Pajama Game!

She plans to continue her acting but with a shorter interlude before her

Biographies next play and she claims it doesn’t have to be The Pajama Game. Natalie lives in Westlake with her son Kobe.

Aimee Dickinson (Brenda) This is Aimee’s first production with TrueNorth.

She has been in productions at Sandstone Summer Theatre and Workshop Players. Aimee is thrilled to be acting and singing again and is excited to have met and worked with so many fun and talented people. She wants to thank her daughter Elise (who also loves musical theater) as it was far too long since Aimee performed and it was Elise’s interest that made her want to perform again. She also wants to thank her husband Steve for his support and encouragement.

Bill May (Pop/ Woodburn) is really excited to be a part of this production. This is his first show at TrueNorth. He has worked on stage and behind the scenes at Huntington Playhouse, Workshop Players, and Mighty Goliath Productions. He would like to thank Douglas and Jessica for making him part of this amazing cast and crew. As always thanks to my wife for all her support. Love you Judie. Now, let’s break some legs!

Sarah Menser (Mara) is thrilled to be returning to Sleep Tite after playing Gladys many years ago. She is an upcoming senior at Baldwin Wallace University where she will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Dance. Favorite past credits include The Drowsy Chaperone (Janet van de Graaff), Seussical the Musical (The Cat in the Hat), and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Marcy Park). Sarah enjoys teaching dance and gymnastics and has been training in ballet, tap, and jazz since the age of 6. For Bird.

Bekah Hartley (Virginia/Tech Intern) is 15 years old and will be a sophomore at Elyria High School this fall.

She attends Metta Rose Dance Academy for various forms of dance and she has previously been seen in Hairspray with Oberlin’s MAD Factory and Our Town at Elyria High.

She worked on the production team of both Noises Off and Our Town with Elyria High. She would like to thank Doug for allowing her to be a part of this amazing cast and her mom for her endless support.

Biographies Tony Heffner (Joe) is happy to be returning to the TrueNorth stage. He has participated in productions around the area including Beck Center, Huntington Playhouse and Blank Canvas. Some of Tony’s favorite credits include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Leaf), Catch Me If You Can: The Musical (Frank Abagnale, Jr.), Avenue Q (Princeton), and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Freddy Benson). Tony would like to thank his family and friends for always supporting him in all he does. GBOGB! Bob Kenderes (Max) is happy to return to the TrueNorth mainstage where he was last seen as Doc in West Side Story. He most recently appeared in the Family Life production of Aesop’s Fableous Barnyard Bash. Bob is a volunteer concierge ambassador at Destination Cleveland’s Visitor Center, a freelance tour guide and a proud cast member of Downtown Cleveland’s awardwinning Take a Hike Program.

Ben McComas (Eddie) has been in many shows around northeast Ohio including: The Music Man Pg. 20 (Winthrop), The Magic

in Me (Coco the Clown), Alice in Wonderland (The Caterpillar), Miracle on 34th St. (Tommy/ Ensemble), 13 the Musical (Archie), All Shook Up (Ensemble), How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (Tackaberry), It’s a Wonderful Life (Young George Bailey), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Benjamin), he was also the Head of Makeup with Studio 8 films on their film Young Harvest. He has been on radio and on TV. Ben is an upcoming senior at Avon Lake High School, where is involved with their Performin’ Shoremen and is also a Merple. In his spare time, which there is very little of, he is usually found singing show tunes at the top of his lungs. He wants to thank the incredible Doug Bailey, and the rest of the amazing cast. He hopes you enjoy the show.

E.J. Wennerberg (Dale) has been onstage and performing for three years, participating in various groups such as the Avon Lake High School Drama Club, Mighty Goliath Productions, and TrueNorth Cultural Arts Center. His most recent role was in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Avon Lake High School where he was cast as Potiphar. The

Biographies Pajama Game is E.J.’s second show with TrueNorth, and he is excited to be a part of it.

Production Team Jessica Atwood (Co-Director): For roughly a decade, Jessica’s choreography has been seen on area stages and after much convincing, Douglas finally got her to dip her toe into the pool of directing. She would like to thank Douglas, Nicci, Lawrence, Charlene, and this fantastic cast for taking this journey with her. Much love to her husband, Ian, and their hot-dog dancin’ little man, Neil.

Douglas F. Bailey II (CO-Director) is happy to be returning to TrueNorth Cultural Arts where he has appeared on stage and directed.

Most recently, Douglas appeared in Godspell at Cain Park.

Some of his favorite credits include: Shrek in Shrek The Musical (Near West Theatre and The MAD* Factory), Bobby Strong in Urinetown (Near West Theatre), Man 1 in Working (Blank canvas Theatre), Huckleberry Finn in Big River (TrueNorth), and William Barfée in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (TrueNorth). He has directed throughout the Cleveland

area, most recently Seussical: the Musical at Mighty Goliath Productions.

Douglas devotes most of his free time to the theatre, serving as the President of Mighty Goliath’s Board of Directors, but also likes to relax with his amazing sixyear old daughter, Matilda and fantastic fiancée, Sarah.

He thanks all of his friends and family who have supported him along his incredible journey. Douglas considers himself lucky to be blessed with a wonderful production team and cast for The Pajama Game, and cannot wait for the next adventure. As always he dedicates his work on and off stage to the memory of his late father, The Silver Fox. Lawrence Wallace (Music Director) is very excited to join True North for Pajama Game. He attended the prestigious Eastman School for his performance degree. During his time there, he worked with many operatic and vocal pedagogists, including Robert Swenson, Catherine Cowrdrick, and others. He has performed in several operas, including Le Nozze di Figaro in the role of Antonio and Bartolo and in Die Lustige Witwe as Kronos, and has musical directed for Blank Canvas Theater, Huntington Theater, Beachwood Community Theater, and other theaters in the area, doing shows as diverse as West Side Story and 13 the Musical!. He and his wife, Julia, are excited to experience parenthood after the birth of their first child!

Nicci Cassara Billington (Choreographer) is thrilled to be making her TrueNorth debut with this wonderful show! Her credits include choreography for dozens of community Pg. 21

Biographies and professional theaters, on the fields for multiple high school drill teams, as well as dance competitions and performances.

Along with her mother, Nicci is CoDirector of Arlene Cassara Dance & Theater Center in North Olmsted, offering classes to all levels, ages 3 1/2 thru and including adults. For the past three years, Nicci has been invited to teach Master Classes in Musical Theater for the All Ohio Dance Festival.

Nicci would like to thank Doug for this opportunity. To Jess collaborating has been way too much fun! Lawrence, it is always a pleasure. To dance captain, Sarah so wonderful working with you whether it be in the theater, the studio or anywhere in life. As always, love & gratitude to mom & dad. “To my husband, Donnie: There are no words for your constant support & endless love. You are the rhythm of my heart.”

Luke Scattergood (Costume Design) is excited to be back again at TrueNorth working with such a great cast and creative team. His previous work here includes The Giver, All I ever need to know I learned from being a Zombie, Charlotte’s Web, Sisters Forever, Of Mice and Men,and Seussical! He has also appeared on stage here in Brighton Beach Memoirs and Big River! A resident of Bay Village, Luke spends his “free time” hanging out with his redhot smoking wife, Laura, and kids, Lucy and Levi. David Wager (Technical Director) is a current student working towards his BA in Theatre from Ashland University.

He has been a part of the theatre world for 10 years. During that time, he has been an actor, lighting designer, technical director, and now set designer. He previously worked for two years with the Medina Youth Theatre as a camp counselor, actor, technician and designer. He is excited to be set designer and technical director for TrueNorth’s productions of The Pajama Game and Back to the 80s as well as a camp counselor. He would like to thank Bekah, Charlene, Janice, Dave and Tom for all their help.

C h a r l e n e Hartley (Stage Manager) most recently worked on TrueNorth’s productions of The Glass Menagerie (Stage Manager), The Giver (Assistant Stage Manager) and Seussical (Prop Mistress). She has worked on productions in various backstage positions in Ohio and Michigan, including a season with Interlochen Arts Academy. Her favorite past shows include Charlotte’s Web (Director), The Secret Garden (Light Board Op), Coppelia (Production Manager), Our Country’s Good (ASM), and The Hobbit (Producer). She would like to acknowledge her husband for his support of her and her children’s passion for theatre.
