I write this while returning home from a wonderful summer trip. I know many of us will travel this summer to the mountains, the beach or farther afield. As I reflect on my return, I am sure you share my view that as much as I enjoy the time away and exploring the big world, I’m always grateful to get back to Jacksonville and TCC. We are so fortunate to live in such a lovely corner of the world surrounded by water, sunshine, and great natural beauty. Of course we are also very grateful for friends, family and our Club.
This is an exciting time at the Club as we are in the midst of several projects to enhance the beauty and the experience at TCC. Our golf course is in the final phase of the bunker renovation, providing much needed enhancements to our seven-year-old bunkers. Through this restoration we’re not just replacing sand and repairing drainage, but also changing the grass around the bunkers creating a tighter cut on the faces, and a closer mow line nearer the fairways. Though changes may feel subtle, they will serve to enhance our golf course and its classical architecture. Fresh sand and better drainage means we will continue to be the best draining golf course in all of North Florida.
You also probably have noticed construction going on at the end of the practice tee adjacent to Number 7. Construction has begun here on our new Golf Performance Center that will provide state-of-the-art golf training and exclusive experiences for members. Our golf teaching staff is thrilled with the addition of these facilities. We see clubs around the country adding these amenities and finding them to be a valuable new asset. They not only provide elite golf experiences, but can also be used as private entertainment venues, and represent real value for our members.
Adjacent to the Golf Performance Center we are constructing six pickleball courts, and a new dedicated retail shop, restrooms, and self-serve beverage tap system. This project is long overdue. It is a recognition of the tremendous pickleball program that has been established at the Club. We are excited that there will now be a venue for this play, and a place for socializing and celebrations.
Being a Club that has little debt and is financially conservative, I am sure your first question might be: Why the big spend? We are so fortunate that all these facilities will be paid for by a combination of capital dues, initiation fees, and the last portions of money received from our Navy easement. The nature of this easement money means it must be spent on capital improvements in the following three years in which it is received.
This is also the final piece of our master plan for our campus. The Long-Range Planning Committee has, over the last decade, thoughtfully staged and stewarded the improvement of our Club. These final pieces reflect the work of that Committee, based on surveys of our members and your priorities. To do all of this debt-free is almost unheard of in the world of private clubs. It’s a wonderful point in time to reflect on how fortunate we are in our campus, our membership, and a place that feels so much like home. I hope you all enjoy your summer and look forward to coming home to TCC.
Respectfully,
Tom Bishop President
This summer the Club will be completing several necessary enhancements around the Clubhouse to ensure we continue to meet the standards and expectations our members expect. We appreciate your understanding as we try to keep the impact to members as minimal as possible. Below are three upcoming projects we will be working on through July and September.
From July 7–August 22, we will be adding rip rap to the river side of the bulkhead. This improvement will extend the lifespan of the bulkhead and minimize wave action to the dock. Kenyon Marine will be fencing off a 6-foot section from the lawn to the seawall along the entire back lawn from The Grove to the end of the Club’s property line. As we add the rock during this timeline, we will take sections of the fence down as we go to minimize disruption to those enjoying the lawn. The dock will be closed from July 7–11 as we work around the area of the gangway.
The Ballrooms will be closed from August 10–24 for repainting and installation of new window treatments. They will also be closed from September 2–5 for installation of new carpet. Additionally, the main foyer will be closed August 11-15 for floor refinishing. Due to this repair the River Room will be closed for service on Thursday evening, August 14 but will reopen for dinner service on Friday, August 15.
The Club will be adding formal golf cart parking spaces near the cart barn in early August (see rendering below). We ask that all members using personal carts to use these spaces first before parking in motor vehicle spaces or on the pavers at the pool or in front of the Clubhouse. As a reminder, there are also four dedicated golf cart parking spots located in the small lot by the tee stand near the Clubhouse.
On behalf of the Timuquana Cares Employee Foundation Board of Directors and Scholarship Committee, it gives us great pleasure to announce the recipients of our Fall Scholarship. Please help us in congratulating Errica Freeman, Isabellie Alequin and Amy Huy.
Errica is on her second summer season working as a youth activity employee, lifeguard and swim coach at TCC. Errica is pursuing a career in kinesiology with an emphasis on exercise and sports physiology at the University of Central Florida. Errica has done a terrific job for us inspiring and coaching young children and we look forward to her applying her empathy and patience in this highly important field.
Isabellie has been with TCC for a short time but has already made an impact on the member experience in the Pow Wow Room as a server. Isabellie is pursuing a career as a lawyer and will be attending the University of North Florida studying political science. Isabellie has had an impressive high school career serving as a member of the Superintendent Student Council, recognized as part of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society and serving as president of Oakleaf High School’s Link Crew, which mentors new freshman students. We are proud of Isabellie’s determination and look forward to hearing about her future success.
Amy is now a two-time recipient of the TCC Cares Scholarship. Amy has worked in a number of areas of the Club, most recently as an evening and weekend concierge as she continues to pursue her goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. Amy is nearing the end of her collegiate career and will be graduating next semester. Amy’s personal experiences visiting her grandmother’s hometown in Cambodia have shaped her passion for healthcare and assisting women’s needs in underserved communities. We are excited to have Amy on the TCC team, even if just for a short period longer, before she takes on new and rewarding challenges in the medical field.
As we enjoy the summer months here at TCC, I would like to take a moment to provide you with an update on our waitlist and express our gratitude to the Membership Committee for their exceptional efforts in upholding the application process.
I am pleased to inform you that our membership waitlist continues to be in high demand, with an increasing number of prospective members expressing their interest in joining Timuquana Country Club. As of mid-June, the total number of prospective members on our waitlist stands at 38. We are delighted to witness such strong interest in our Club and are committed to providing an exceptional experience for all our esteemed members.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated Membership Committee for their unwavering commitment to maintaining the integrity and excellence of our membership process. The committee has worked tirelessly to organize and execute Meet and Greet Dinners, creating opportunities for prospective members to interact with existing Club members. These events have been proven to be instrumental in fostering a sense of friendship and showcasing the unique culture of our Club.
It’s hard to believe we have already wrapped up another great Spring season with our Iqua Member-Guest and Memorial Day Tournaments. In early May, Mikael Hellman and Ricky Quick came out victorious at our Iqua Member-Guest after defeating Mike Cosgrove and Kevin Lennon on the final hole of the shootout. We also want to congratulate our Memorial Day champions, Derek Fink, Joe Stepnes, Spencer Cummings and Victor Hughes (Net Champions), and Vincent Pulignano, R.J. Bopf, Graham Nichols and Devin Terry (Gross Champions).
As we end the month of June, the heat of the summer is upon us, and with that comes our usual afternoon thunderstorms and an active lightning alarm system. For the safety of all golfers, anytime lightning is detected within six miles of the Club, the alarm will sound with one long, single blast. At that time, all golfers are required to immediately quit playing and practicing and seek shelter. At 20-minutes from the last strike within six miles of the Club, the all-clear siren will sound with three blasts. At that time, it will be safe to resume playing and practicing. Thanks for adhering to these precautions.
We kick off July with an exciting weekend at the Club as we celebrate Independence Day. As planned, all 18 holes will reopen for our annual July 4th Tournament that begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Following the tournament, tee times will be available beginning at 1:30 p.m. Please be mindful of our guest policy on this historically busy weekend.
As we look ahead to Fall, we will be hosting our fifth annual Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS tournament which is set to be played September 29-October 5. This is the last of our five-year agreement with the tournament and we look forward to having Rocco Mediate back to defend his title, along with many other great players. We want to give you a heads up on some important dates as we approach the tournament:
• September 16 – Beginning this day, we will be cart path only until the start of the event.
• September 26 – This is the final day the course and practice facilities will be open to play.
• September 26 – This will also be the final day for members to take their golf bags from the bag room as well as have all lockers, both men and women’s, cleaned out.
If you have not attended one of these tournaments in the past, we highly encourage you to join us for this final tournament. It is a great experience for all ages watching some of the most talented players on our pristine course.

As we kick off another vibrant summer season, the tennis and pickleball courts are buzzing with energy. It’s fantastic to see so many familiar faces on the courts and we’re thrilled to welcome many new members and guests to our facility. Whether it’s brushing up on your strokes, working on your cardio fitness, or preparing for the upcoming League season, our summer tennis program has something for everyone. Let’s make this season one to remember with great rallies, sunny days and plenty of fun on the courts.
Mark your calendars and start planning for a weekend of great competition, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories at this year’s Member Guest Tournament on November 5-8, 2025. It’s always a great time to make memories on and off the court with your friends and neighbors.
As always, please let us know if we can do anything to make your experience on the courts more enjoyable. Our Tennis staff is happy to assist you with any needs you may have.
One of the best ways to build mental toughness on the court is to focus on each individual point as its own battle. Whether you are up 5-0 or down a match point, treat the next point with the same focus and intensity. This helps players stay in the present, not the past or future and reduces match anxiety.
Tips to help you stay in the present:
• Create consistent pre-serve and return rituals and routines
• Focus on one point at a time
• Deep controlled breaths between points help to reduce anxiety and help push the reset button in your mind
• Stay positive with constructive self-talk and positive body language. This will help with a more consistent performance

We are excited to welcome Nicole Sweeney to the TCC team in our newly developed role as Talent Development Manager. Nicole, along with the assistance of our department senior staff, will be responsible for developing improved service standards, expectations and more detailed systems across our departments to ensure our team members are delivering a more consistent and elevated experience. Nicole will be focusing primarily on food and beverage service to start before engaging with all other departments to assist in staff training and performance management. The Club’s initial priorities will be to further define our team’s core values and expectations for delivering first class service and onboarding all staff in a consistent manner, reinforcing these standards. In addition, Nicole has a terrific background in talent acquisition, so we are excited to have her develop improved vetting and interview guidelines for our team to help identify those best suited for our hospitality environment. Nicole starts with us toward the end of July so when you see her, please welcome her to the team. We are excited about this new role and the impact it’ll have on the member experience.

We strive to make a designated lap swimming lane available from 10:30 a.m. to close. Please note, it is not available during junior programming (practice times vary) or when the obstacle course is in the pool. For specific day/ time inquiries, contact James Romero at 904.200.2200.
Our swim team season ends July 19 and lane usage will return to normal summer hours.
We hope you are enjoying the summer as much as we are. Seeing the little bare feet running around the pool and the laughing, friendly faces in the Clubhouse fills us with so much joy. With several weeks of summer still ahead of us, we would like to share a few friendly reminders about some of the pool’s policies.
1. Guest Policy – All members are allowed four guests at the pool at any given time. Special requests for additional guests can be made by contacting Walt Bartman at wbartman@timuquana.net. Guest fees are $15 per person, except on holidays. Holiday guest fees are $30 a person with a limit of four guests.
2. Bathing Suit Attire - TCC’s pool is a family-friendly environment. Members and guests must wear appropriate swimwear that is modest and not too revealing. Please check the pool dress code on our website for details on appropriate attire. Also, upon exiting the pool, we require all members to be covered or clothed as you venture to other destinations of the Club.
3. Vaping - Vaping or smoking is not permitted on the pool deck. Permissible areas are by the Adirondack chairs or by the river away from others. Smoking or vaping is also prohibited at The Grove Bar and dining areas.
4. Food/Drink - Please refrain from bringing outside alcohol, food, or glass containers into the aquatic’s facility.
We are truly appreciative to all of our members for helping us maintain our high standards of expectations and service at the pool and Clubhouse.
Once the summer is winding down and the kids head back to school in August, we will transition to our reduced lifeguarding hours at the pool. Beginning August 11, we will have lifeguards at the pool only on Fridays from 2-8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.–8:30 p.m. During the rest of the week, Tuesday through Thursday, we will operate under our Swim at Your Own Risk policies and Mondays will remain closed for maintenance and swim programs. This schedule will continue through Labor Day weekend.
Below are important reminders for our Swim at Your Own Risk policy:
• Children under the age of 12 need to be always accompanied by an adult
• Children under the age of 9 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian while in the pool
During unguarded hours, we kindly ask that all members and guests do their best to keep the deck clean of food and beverage from The Grove and dispose of towels in the appropriate towel bins. Mondays we are only open for lap swimming or already scheduled programming.
