It’s hard to believe my year of presidency is coming to a close. It has been a challenging but rewarding tenure highlighted by the opening of the new locker rooms and 19th Hole, the development of the future Golf Performance Center and Pickleball Facility and the creation of the 20252030 Strategic Plan.
In our efforts to finalize our five-year Strategic Plan and the future vision of the Club, the Board of Governors, industry consultants and senior management team recently engaged in a twoday, comprehensive board retreat to collaborate and identify key components to ensure continued success for TCC. During the retreat, the Board heard from multiple industry professionals about current club trends and governance best practices, as well as an in-depth operational review of our departments and financial health of the Club. I am happy to report that financially the Club has some of the best metrics in the country. In the associated graphs and summary conclusions, TCC’s investments in our property, plant and equipment, and our long-term capital planning have increased our net worth over time and enabled our ability to attract new members at a higher initiation fee than ever before. Our findings reconfirm that the Board’s proposed capital dues increase, following the end of the 2010 ballroom assessment, is the proper allocation of this revenue stream to cover our annual depreciation. Additionally, we learned how efficiently the Club’s staff have been operating their departments. As you know, TCC is a very active community regularly utilizing the services and amenities across the Club. Based on a comparative review of member usage and personnel numbers, our metrics reflect we are currently operating with an adequate amount of staff and in some cases are
actually understaffed for the amount of business we see in some areas. With the Club being an experience-based business, it’s important that the Board and management team continue to find the right balance between efficiency and delivering the best experience for the membership.
At the conclusion of the retreat, the Board of Governors finalized the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan which is now available online and on the TCC app. I encourage everyone to read it and provide feedback to the Board and to Greg on any goals that may have been missed in the development of the plan. It is a terrific tool for the membership to see everything that we are focused on in the future on behalf of the membership. As we have done historically, the Board will update the membership annually in December on its progress with the plan. Finally, in my last letter to the membership I would like to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude to my fellow 2024-2025 Board of Governors members, and all of the committee volunteers for dedicating their time, valuable input and constructive feedback to make our Club the best it can be. I want to share special thanks and recognition for three gentlemen who will be rolling off the Board in April following their three-year term: Stephen Horne, Chair of the Golf Committee, Peter Moore, Chair of the Green Committee and Mike Oates, Past President. Their contributions to the Club during their tenure are invaluable, and we, as a membership, owe them a great deal of gratitude for their dedication, time and love for TCC. I believe we can all attest that the Club has continued to make successful strides under their unwavering stewardship.
I very much appreciate and enjoyed the opportunity to have served as your Club President. I believe our efforts, and those made before us, put us in a great position to execute the next phase of the Club’s prosperous future.
Respectfully,
Mike Kelley President

As the weather is warming up and the flowers are beginning to bloom, we are entering the best time of year to play golf at Timuquana. Springtime is one of our favorite times of the year and is filled with many Club events and tournaments. As you prepare your calendars to come play and possibly bring guests, please pay attention to the tournament calendar for course closures.
We are excited to announce that beginning Tuesday, May 27, we will commence a comprehensive renovation of all bunkers on the course. Our last bunker renovation took place in 2017, and with the typical lifespan of quality bunkers being 7–8 years, this project will ensure the continued excellence of our course.
The renovation will span six weeks and includes:
• Replacing sand and grass faces (Celebration Bermudagrass on the faces. Same as fairways grass to maintain tighter cut.)
• Holes #1/#11 fairway bunkers will be consolidated to one for better management practices
• Holes #10/#12 will become more visible from the tee
• Fairway mow lines will be closer to the bunkers where it is feasible
• Two additional staff members will be added to help condition bunkers more frequently
To expedite the process, the course will be closed for three weeks following Memorial Day (May 27–June 16). During the remaining three weeks of the project (June 17–July 7), we will operate with only 9 holes open at a time to allow the construction team to complete their work efficiently. Since we will be closed for three weeks after Memorial Day, we will not be closed for the four days in August as we have in years past.
We are pleased to share that the project is expected to conclude with all 18 holes reopening on July 8, 2025.
During this six-week construction period we will have all 18 holes open for Father’s Day weekend, June 14-15, as well as for our annual Fourth of July Golf Tournament.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we undertake this important improvement to enhance our golf course.
Our Founder’s Day tournament will be played on Tuesday, March 11 this year. The annual meeting will be held at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow at 11:45 a.m., and the shotgun start will begin at 1 p.m. There is no entry fee and the format is one best ball of your foursome. If you wish to play and do not have a group, please contact the Golf Shop and we will be happy to find a team for you.
As we bid farewell to the cold winter months, a busy spring schedule is set on the courts for tennis and pickleball. The Adult Leagues and Junior after-school programs are in full swing and will continue to be active through the end of May. A comprehensive schedule of the tennis and pickleball clinics and drop-ins are listed here. Our professional staff is happy to answer any questions you may have and assist you in joining these fantastic clinics. The 2025 Summer Camps are filling up fast, so please reserve your child’s spot ahead of time. To register for camp, email Shaun Zemanek at szemanek@timuquana.net.
As always, if there is anything our tennis and pickleball staff can do to enhance your experience on the tennis and pickleball courts, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

1. Your overall practice regime does not include enough match play. Research shows that American players take more private lessons, participate in more drill classes, and buy more equipment, but the one thing we do less of than any other country is… PLAY matches. This is why so many players struggle when they compete and often feel like they are better at practice than they are in an actual match.
2. Your intensity level at practice is often too low. I work with a lot of high-performance juniors. I typically see them in our after-school clinics. If you track their day, you realize that most of them get up at 6 a.m. and then go off to school for a long day of classes and studying and then end up at my tennis center for a class that is from 4 to 6 p.m. It’s not uncommon that when the kids get to our class they are already exhausted from a long day. But this is a chance for them to understand that life is difficult in that even though they are tired, they must bring their best effort to the court even though it might not be easy. This is one of my favorite life lessons that tennis teaches players. The players that can do this are those that have the most success.

3. You’re more concerned with winning now than developing your game for the future. We see it all the time. Players say they want to get better in the long run, but in classes and in matches they are about the necessary new skills they are working on to win at that moment. This can even happen in a drill class (practice) when they don’t want to rotate down one court lower. It’s easy to say that you want your long-term improvement, but it takes a special commitment to be willing to take a step backwards so that you can eventually take two steps forward.
4. You’re not adding or acquiring more USABLE tactics to your game so you can beat a wider range of players. You don’t have to have every tactic in your arsenal to be a good tennis player. But you must have more than one. The best players have a favorite way to play, but they also must have 2-3 other ways that they can play. By USABLE I mean something that you can deploy and use in a match, not just something that you can do in practice, but are too scared to deploy in competition.
5. When you practice on your own (without a coach) you waste valuable practice time by not having a specific purpose. Practicing with the coach is very important. But the very best players put in additional practice time without a coach. Those times are critical, and I have found that the best players make the best use of those practices when they are away from their coach. Having a specific plan and set of drills that you will do is the key to improving during this time. It is not enough to just go out and hit with your friends. You must have purpose in your practice.
Cost: $22 per 1-hour clinic, $33 per 1.5-hour clinic. Spots are limited and advance registration is requested. To register, visit CourtReserve or contact the Tennis Center at 904.389.4332.
