Unofficial results show that Democrat Sean Bowie of Ahwatukee beat Tempe Republican Frank Schmuck 51.3 percent to 48.6 percent, while Tempe Democrat Mitzi Epstein ousted 14-year legislator Bob Robson, a Chandler Republican. Epstein was the top vote-getter among the four contenders for the two LD 18 House seats, gathering 30.5 percent of the vote, followed by incumbent Ahwatukee Republican Jill See

Holiday light festivals brighten up the season BY JUSTIN FERRIS Get Out Editor

ven in the Valley of the Sun, the light doesn’t last long in the winter evenings. Fortunately, that's an opportunity to shine artificial lights, whether incandescent or LED, in bright white or a rainbow of colors, as strings or shapes, in the trees or along the ground, and however else lifts spirits. While plenty of people decorate their own houses—go to tiny. cc/evtlights by Nov. 30 to fill out a form to win the Tribune's Holiday Light Contest—few can compete with the massive light shows on this list. For some holiday light in the dark winter—plus live music, food, ice skating and more fun—these shows and festivals fill the bill. These are organized based on their starting dates, but several continue through the New Year.
Gilbert Tower Lighting
Gilbert’s famous water tower gets the holiday treatment with a full lighting during the annual Gilbert Days and Downtown Concert Series. The free concert will feature Cisco and the Racecars. Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Water Tower Plaza, 45 W. Page Avenue, Gilbert. Free. gilbertaz.gov/ concerts.
