How to take advantage of Google reviews By Chamber Staff
T
he Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber is a Google partner and as such has offered its members classes with onsite Google Trainers with such topics as “How to Get Your Business Online” and “Implementing Video with Google.” We also recently hosted a Google Holiday Live Stream event. Members have found these classes extremely valuable in helping boost their online profile and generating more online traffic to their website. One area that stands out and is often overlooked for small businesses is the power of online reviews. Reviews on Google provide valuable information about your business to both you and your customers. Business reviews appear next to your listing in “maps” and “search” and can help your business stand out on Google. Here are few steps from Google to get you started down the path of growing your business through online reviews. To get reviews on Google, encourage your customers to spread the word about your business by following these best practices: Remind your customers to leave reviews. Let them
know that it’s quick and easy to leave business reviews on mobile devices or desktop computers. Reply to reviews to build your customers’ trust. Your customers will notice that your business values their input and possibly leave more reviews in the future. You can also create and share a link that customers can click to leave a review. Verify your business so your information is eligible to appear on “maps,” “search” and other Google services. Only verified businesses can respond to reviews. Reviews are only valuable when they are honest and unbiased. For example, business owners shouldn’t offer incentives to customers in exchange for reviews. Google provides a full list of posting guidelines. If you see a review that’s inappropriate or that violates Google policies, you can flag it for removal. Write reviews. On Google Maps, you can write reviews for places you’ve visited. You can also leave info about a place, like if it’s quiet, lively or romantic. These reviews and opinions are voluntary. Google doesn’t pay reviewers for adding them to Google Maps. All reviews are public, so anyone can see what you write. You can’t add an anonymous review. Here is some more info that others will see: the
name on your “About me” page; other reviews you’ve written on Google Maps; photos you’ve added to Google Maps. Before you get started, make sure you verify your local business listing on Google. To manage your business information in “search,” “maps” and other Google properties, you must verify your business listing. The verification process helps Google make sure your business information is accurate and that only you, the business owner or manager, has access to it. Before you can start the verification process, create or claim a Google My Business listing. You may see one or several verification types depending on the kind of business listing you manage. To get started, go to support.google.com, click the drop down at the bottom of the page for more options, select the business tab and then choose “Google My Business,” followed by “Verify My Business,” and you will be on your way to reviews.
