Student Chronicles BY GLENDALE STAR STAFF Bryce Lee Johnson of Glendale graduated with a Master of Education from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. Ethan Crabb and Lindsay Gerle, both of Glendale, were named to the Biola University dean’s list. Crabb’s major is undecided, while Gerle is majoring in psychology. Biola students are placed on the dean’s list to honor those with a GPA of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credits and whose cumulative GPA is at least 3.2. The university is in La Mirada, California. “Inclusion in Biola University’s dean’s list is reserved for students who demonstrate exceptional performance in their academic studies. This honor signifies

hard work, engagement and investment in scholarship,” said Tamara Anderson, associate provost of academic effectiveness and administration. “These attributes are the building blocks of continued success, not only in the classroom but in the workplace and in the students’ personal lives. Brynn Wingham, a sophomore at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, has been named to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the fall 2021 semester. She is the daughter of Eric and Shannon Wingham of Glendale. The dean’s list honors students who achieve an outstanding scholastic record during a semester with a gradepoint average of 3.6 or greater.

Peoria USD students compete in patriotic speech contest BY GLENDALE STAR STAFF Four Peoria Unified students emerged as first-place winners in the district’s 35th annual Patriotic Speech Contest held on March 3. The students competed in front of their peers at their school sites earlier in the spring semester. They then advanced to the district-level competition, where they delivered their presentation in front of an esteemed group of judges. For the contest, fifth and sixth grade students delivered a 2- to 3-minute persuasive speech on one of several topics patriotic in nature based on a prompt. Seventh and eighth grade students prepared a 3- to 5-minute persuasive speech on patriotism. The top Patriotic Speech Contest winners in the fifth and sixth grade SEE SPEECH PAGE 21
