BY GLENDALE STAR STAFF Bryce Lee Johnson of Glendale graduated with a Master of Education from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota.

Ethan Crabb and Lindsay Gerle, both of Glendale, were named to the Biola University dean’s list. Crabb’s major is undecided, while Gerle is majoring in psychology. Biola students are placed on the dean’s list to honor those with a GPA of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credits and whose cumulative GPA is at least 3.2. The university is in La Mirada, California. “Inclusion in Biola University’s dean’s list is reserved for students who demonstrate exceptional performance in their academic studies. This honor signifi es hard work, engagement and investment in scholarship,” said Tamara Anderson, associate provost of academic effectiveness and administration. “These attributes are the building blocks of continued success, not only in the classroom but in the workplace and in the students’ personal lives. We celebrate these students and their achievement and look forward to their future accomplishments.” Biola University is a nationally ranked Christian university in Southern California.

Abby Wilkes of Glendale was named to Clark University’s fall 2021 fi rst honors dean’s list for Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. This selection marks outstanding academic achievement during the fall 2021 semester. Students must have a GPA of 3.8 or above for fi rst honors or a GPA between 3.5 and 3.79 for second honors. Founded in 1887, Clark University is a liberal arts-based research university.

Olly Baker of Glendale earned a Master of Arts in teaching degree, majoring in integrated social studies education, from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Jimmy Ndayikengurukiye of Glendale was named to the dean’s list at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, for the fall semester ending in December 2021. This is a distinction earned by students whose grade-point average is 3.92 or higher. Ndayikengurukiye, the son of Edouard Nyandwi and Grace Sindihebura, is a 2021 graduate of Camelback High School.

Brynn Wingham, a sophomore at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, has been named to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the fall 2021 semester. She is the daughter of Eric and Shannon Wingham of Glendale. The dean’s list honors students who achieve an outstanding scholastic record during a semester with a gradepoint average of 3.6 or greater.

Peoria USD students compete in patriotic speech contest

Four Peoria Unifi ed students emerged as fi rst-place winners in the district’s 35th annual Patriotic Speech Contest held on March 3.

The students competed in front of their peers at their school sites earlier in the spring semester. They then advanced to the district-level competition, where they delivered their presentation in front of an esteemed group of judges.

For the contest, fi fth and sixth grade students delivered a 2- to 3-minute persuasive speech on one of several topics patriotic in nature based on a prompt. Seventh and eighth grade students prepared a 3- to 5-minute persuasive speech on patriotism.
