hanks to Auckland Council, the organisations’ home ground of Bledisloe Park is set to benefit from upgrades to lighting, drainage and irrigation. On announcing the work (in August 2021), Franklin Local Board Chair, Andy Baker, said improvements are required for the ground to stay ‘up with the play’ as the region’s population grows. “We are committed to having a healthy community that gets out there and stays fit and active. We all know about the benefits taking part in sport brings, not only on a physical level but also in terms of building a sense of belonging and community,” he said. “We have to make sure we have facilities that are fit for purpose.” Upgrades are also in the pipeline for Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe and Beachlands’ Te Puru Park, as well as suggestions work will commence at Karaka Sports Park in future, Mr Baker confirmed. The final whistle, with regards to improvements at Bledisloe Park, is expected by May 2022.
